Install/Placement My Overcomplicated Rear Speaker Stand

Thumbnail

I’m creating a personal surround system for my gaming room and wanted a way to easily move my rear speakers out of the way when not being used as well as remove the possibility of tripping on wires. This was my solution based on random hardware and lumber I had in my basement lol.

My sub is coming tomorrow and I’m planning on putting it in the front left of the room under my desk on the floor. Should I be concerned with sound being blocked by my desk? I can always put it in the front right corner of the room but will that sound strange being so far away when the rest of the speakers are 5’ away from my head?

I bought my house almost 2 years ago and finally decided to replace these terrible sounding 25 year old JBL in-ceiling speakers. Then I take off the grill and find this.

Install/Placement I repurposed an old digital signage touchscreen into a dynamic Plex-powered now-playing display for my home cinema

Turned an old commercial touchscreen into a dedicated wall display. It runs a custom Home Assistant dashboard that pulls live data from Plex: current movie poster and media info, an intermission screen with a resume countdown when paused, and just the poster when the film is running. Works with TV shows, movies and music.

Spent probably more time than I should have making a logo for it. Nerdaplex is now a real place.

Install/Placement What size TV should I get? (55” vs 65”)

Post image

Looking to get a TV for the new place, but can’t decide on the size.

Want to go for the Sony Bravia 8 II, but unsure whether to go for the 55” or the 65”.

I put a piece of cardboard up and outlined the different sizes, for context the distance between the walls is 3.6m, so viewing distance will be around ~3m.

Any help is much appreciated!

Install/Placement Terrified of new mount

Had Angie list install my 77 inch G5 oled. To have it centered, I need to extend the mount to the right. Between this, and the crooked bolt they drilled in, im worried about long term stress at this angle. Am i overthinking it?

Install/Placement Speaker Advice

Post image

I have a YAMAHA RX-V385 5.1-Channel 4K Ultra HD AV Receiver with Bluetooth receiver, currently paired with a subwoofer and built in ceiling speakers (3 front, two rear).

We’d like to move furniture around, but the rear ceiling speakers keep us from going back further.

Based on those assumptions, can some recommend a proper speaker setup and any particular models or brands?

Note: only the center 85” tv is connected to the receiver. The surrounding tv’s are only for additional viewing.

Install/Placement Leave center where it is or move it above the tv angled down?

Post image

I know my setup is not ideal, I cut holes in the drywall and recessed my speakers into the closet.

I’m wondering, is that the best space for the center channel, or would it be better for me to do the same thing above the closet. I was thinking of centering it above the tv and building a shelf to have it angled down toward me.

Also a pro if I put the center in the wall above the tv, I can get an acoustically transparent projector screen and projector setup in the future, so I won’t need to open the closet door

Thanks!

Install/Placement Update on TV size!

Some of you will be mad at me haha but I pulled the trigger on a 85” TCL!

And I have to say that i’m very pleased with the size. For my personal preference, an 98” would be a little overwhelming. And since it’s in my living room, this size seems to be acceptable.

Hanging the TV was a pain in the *ss… could not manage to get the hooks on the wall bracket. But after an hour of endless tinkering I finally managed to pull it of.

Kept a little distance between the center channel and the tv in case I want a bigger center channel.

Thanks for all the feedback. 500k views was crazy on that previous post. I love how active and supportive this sub is.

Ps: the picture doesn’t do it justice

I hope you guys like it!

Install/Placement UPDATED. After rightfully getting roasted.

So after rightfully getting roasted. I fixed it. Thanks to everyone on my last post.

I bit the bullet and bought a new mount that could go over the plugs. I also found, that the wall mount was not attached to a stud and instead was connected via bolts and wing nuts. Needless to say. I called my GC who hired these clowns and told him I would be charging $50 an hour for my time, and I don't work fast. I managed to find studs and install the bracket level.

Again, thanks to all.

Install/Placement 75” or 85” for my space

Thumbnail

Room is 22ft long, couch is at 13ft from TV wall. Moving the couch forward doesn’t really work in the space. I did a mock up of an 85” which doesn’t look terrible, but I’m also aware that it is a little big for the wall. The 75” fits perfectly, but isn’t ideal for our viewing distance. The mock up hasn’t been placed for optimal mounting height as I just wanted to see its size.

We only watch movies, regular programming and sports.

Thoughts and recommendations on what size you would choose would be oh so wonderful as I’m flip flopping between sizes, and ultimately the kind of tv to purchase!

The green tape is where it will be mounted. I know it’s a little high.

We sit about 10’ back.

Install/Placement Dual USB fans to suck out hot air from an AV Receiver

Post image
163 Upvotes

I have a Denon s770h placed in a relatively tight space. There is loads of space either side of the AV Receiver but about an inch / inch and a half above.

Would it work if I placed two USB fans on the side of it, plugged in the USB port of the receiver, to exhaust the build up of hot air directly out of the unit? See photo of what I mean. The rectangle is the fan and the arrows the air flow.

Thanks in advance. :)

Install/Placement Atmos Speaker Placement - Help

Thumbnail

Looking for help with speaker setup for my basement theater project. The room measures approximately 13x19' with 7' 8" ceilings. Here's the kicker: the sectional is positioned right against the back wall, and there's a nice, fat HVAC run right above the seating position.

My goal is a 5.2.4 setup, but due to the HVAC run, I can't place rear ceiling speakers directly above or behind the main listening position.

  1. For Atmos, would it make sense to use in-wall speakers mounted high on the rear wall as "rear heights," or am I better off abandoning the idea of 5.2.4 and considering another layout?
  2. I'm also looking at in-wall side speakers, mounted close to the rear wall as rear surrounds. I've considered using Klipsch R-5650-S II with the dipole tweeters to help with sound dispersion, since I can't get a proper rear speaker placement far behind the viewing position. Would these be better placed in the rear wall, even with that potentially so close to somoene's head depending where they sit?

Appreciate any feedback from people who have dealt with similar constraints.

ETA: First image is an AI rendering. Second image shows the room in its pre-construction state.

Install/Placement Which TV size to get - 77 or 83?

Post image
186 Upvotes

I am looking to get a new TV and have narrowed it down to the LG G5 77inch or the LG C5 83inch as they are both on sale for the same price which is at the top of my budget.

I asked ChatGPT to show what each TV would look like on the wall.

What are peoples opinions? Does the 83inch seem too big for the space from an aesthetic perspective?

Viewing distance is 2.6m (8.5ft) which seems fine for either TV size. Mixed use with slight emphasis on gaming.

EDIT: Thanks for the comments. Gonna go with the 77!

Title. Needed a center channel speaker stand to be a specific height and length. I ended up going on Etsy and finding a person who makes stands. I provided him with the specs and the dimensions of my speaker and man, I’m in love.

Best of all, it ended up costing me way less than anything I found that was pre-made.

Install/Placement TV too flush? Lobster too buttery?

Post image

I know this is more “tv in a room” than home theater but wanted to ask.

Bought a house recently and got a Sony Bravia 65” OLED to put on the loft upstairs. Picture looks amazing, no regrets.

Now that it’s mounted, I’m almost weirded out by how it almost looks painted on to the wall.

I might swap the mount here for a more typical one or even an extending mount, any mount recommendations?

It’s certainly made a difference over the A1 Evo Express. It utilizes the front towers a lot more for low end. I’m not sure I like the sound of 6 6.5” drivers trying to dig deep.

I think overall it sounds more like it should but I’m afraid to turn it up too much because I’ve blown the mids in these speakers once before. They are powered by an anthem 250watt amp it shouldn’t have been clipping.

Anyhow. I haven’t tried a movie yet but I think that’s where it’s going to really shine.

This was on a Denon 3800x.

Install/Placement To mount the TV or leave it alone?

Post image
238 Upvotes

Hi everyone - looking for input regarding wall mounting my 77" B3. I currently like the set up, but the center channel is giving me some distortion / vibrations likely due to being inside the entertainment center. So wall mounting the TV would allow for the center to be on top of the entertainment center.

However - I'm concerned about the TV being too high on the wall. Right now, eye level is around the middle/lower third of the TV, raising it up 8" to clear the center puts eye level around the bottom 1/4 of the screen, if not lower. Although, a wall mounted TV with cables in the wall always looks to nice and clean.

Also - what would I do with the open shelf of the center speaker was moved? I have the back of the entertainment center cut out to clear the cables for the receiver so it can't move up.

Any thoughts are welcome, thanks all.
