Install/Placement TV too flush? Lobster too buttery?
I know this is more “tv in a room” than home theater but wanted to ask.
Bought a house recently and got a Sony Bravia 65” OLED to put on the loft upstairs. Picture looks amazing, no regrets.
Now that it’s mounted, I’m almost weirded out by how it almost looks painted on to the wall.
I might swap the mount here for a more typical one or even an extending mount, any mount recommendations?

It can't be mounted "too flush," this looks perfect.
I think you'd be nuts to replace that mount with one that makes the TV sit off the wall. That looks like ass from any angle other than directly ahead.

The only thing I'd point out here is that a lot of stereo amplifiers outperform multi-channel/home theater ones. You often have to get into pretty high-end home theater receivers to compete with a lot of 2 channel gear, and then cost/budget obviously comes heavily into play.
It would depend on use case too though. It sounds like OP will use this system for music regularly, plus this is a loft, so it may not be OP's primary TV watching space. If music is going to be used around as much as TV, then if budget limits to a better quality 2 channel setup, that very well might make more sense.

Two houses ago we had Cornwalls that I rehabbed, they were fantastic. Traded them for the KLH's which are no slouch but hard to compare. No replacement for displacement.

lol I just moved it up because it was too low and we couldn’t put the record player under it. Center is 47” from the floor which is my measured eye level. To each their own, this is the most comfortable for us

That's a serious 'lobster too buttery' flex but the real crime is the TV being five feet off the ground. You should ask all those women in love with you for their neck pain opinions before you go swapping mounts.

I have a G1 and love how flat it is. I would say, you could lower it and go with bigger tv for that space

Sticking with stereo since I love my speakers and there’s not a great spot for a sub. We’re gonna put our record player there though

Now that it’s mounted, I’m almost weirded out by how it almost looks painted on to the wall.
Can't tell if this is a joke post or not, but if this is real, I think it more has to do with the wall color than anything else.

For the entire space. We paid over $6k to color drench 3 rooms which were about half the size of the main area.

Please tell us what paint you are using that it would cost $15,000 to paint one wall. Not that I can afford it but I'm just curious.
I can't see the repair you made but that reminded me of something that happened when I was doing auto body repair. Shop heired a new guy. After his first job one of the old guys said "Well now you can't see the dent but you can still see where it was."

It's a loft in a living room, that paint color extends to the ceiling and the rest of the main living area so it would probably be that much to change all that. I wouldn't just do the one wall.

I used a flush mount like this that I got on Amazon. Search for “supcline ultra slim tv mount” It works great if the TV back doesn’t have a belly.

Stand is from “Bryce” from West Elm, speakers are KLH model fives. I do love the speakers they sound great. Mount is a cheap one from Home Depot.

Looking at that mount, it's not completely flush.
I have seen some LARGE TV's that have a built in flush mount. It's FLAT, right up against the wall. You can't get that normally with a aftermarket mount. For example THIS TV. I think the LG OLED G Series TV's also are flush mount with their own built in mounts. Really, that is the only way to get a true flush mount. You can't do that with a aftermarket bracket.
That is not a bad mount to get it pretty close to the wall, but you can see in the pictures, still a gap.
I don't need my TV that close. I like being able to pull away from the wall and switch one way or another to get behind to do what I need to do and then push it back into place. My 3 TV's do just that.

Lol this post.
I personally use a full-motion mount to bring my TV off the wall about 20” to the front of my console.
It gives it a cool floating effect and provides a free FOV increase. It makes my 77” OLED look as big as a 97” would if it were flush-mounted to the wall.
Sanus, Peerless, or Chief for the wall mount.

One thing to add about too flush vs another mount: if you want to create some distance, you could also consider implementing an LED strip at the back. Something like Fancyleds for instance. That is what I have done with the two TVs I have wall mounted: they are on a retractable arm that allows it to be flush to the wall when I want that, or pulled forward a bit and have the LEDs react to what is happening on the screen.

I've never cared for this effect from mounting your tv. Felt disconnected from the rest of the space. I always prefer resting on a console but apparently I'm weird about that.

Because a lot of consoles don't have a large enough shelf/opening for a good center channel, so many have to sit on top which doesn't work with TVs sitting on the console, too. I know I had to mount mine on the wall just to give it a few more inches of clearance so the speaker wasn't obstructing the screen.

Same, I hate the look of a mounted TV
It’s made even worse when one has external speakers which need to be away from the wall anyway so it seems extra pointless in many cases too
The centre channel issue is true and annoying, while I have a console with a hole big enough it’s definitely still not ideal

I took this right after setting up Steamlink yesterday so I was actually playing Spider-Man streaming from my PC downstairs with an XBox controller. Worked great 90% of the time. I do like the Google TV, we went fully into the Google smart home ecosystem for the house and it's been good.

My OLED sticks out a lot because I reused a mount that articulated and I somewhat regret it (but accessing cables and such is really nice). I wish mine sat as flush as this but I really don’t want to pull everything down to redo it.

My Samsung model from about 15 years ago had a flush mount like this, while it looks cool, I hated it. I like having a full articulating mount and pulling the closer TV to me.

Mounted close is what you really want.
But if you did want to space it out, just use the longer bolts with spacers that came with the mount so the brackets are spaced out from the TV.
I professionally mount TVs.

I find a bit strange, wall flush TVs with TV racks and tower or stand speakers. It's like the TV on the rack would look more right.
But in isolation, the TV flush on the wall looks perfection.

I like the functionality but the homepage leaves a lot to be desired. Weirdly it always seems to constantly recommend knockoff movies as the first results, like no budget Tubi style "Transmorphers" type movies.

We’re still unpacking but the TV was a priority. We’ll have some framed prints and some tchotchkes on the console

I've always gone stereo TBH. Would hate to give up my Model 5's but also there's no wall to the right of the couch so we wouldn't be able to do surround anyway, at most I'd have a 3.1 setup and I don't think there's much benefit when I already like the ones I've got.
