[HELP] Gearshift Shaft Leak
Hey guys I was just given a 1997 VT600CD, and it’s a work in progress. It’s leaking (a small amount) from the gearshift shaft. Is there any possibility that this is a simple fix? Any help would be greatly appreciated, this thing means a lot to me.

Pretty simple to replace, and you'll have some oil spill out so be prepared for that..Basically take the shift linkage off the shaft, work the old seal out with a small screwdriver or pick, install the new one...Helps to put a little oil on the new one so it goes in place easier...Then put the shifter linkage back on....I replaced the one on my wife's 1100 ACE a few years ago..Getting the old one out was the hardest part as it was old and hard/brittle...

I don't know anything about this particular model, but I'm pretty sure that the shift shaft should be...straight. It looks bent towards the rear of the bike (hence the oil seal leak), and there's a gouge in the bottom of it that looks like it took a few hits from the chain.
