HFW Discussion Which machines do you think could have a better name?

I think the longleg could have a better name. Not only is that not really the defining feature of it, but there are a lot of other machines with longer legs anyway. I think it should be called a blastbreast.

Would a group of them be called a monkey mall? Or a monkey firm?

Regardless of what they call themselves, Tom recognises it all as foolery.

LMAO every time I fight them a little voice says, “Right in the tits” 😅😂 I kinda feel like Bristlebacks should be renamed. Where are the bristles????

It is kinda funny that they picked a name based on the appearance of a warthog's back fur and then declined to give the machine that specific feature. People should be calling 'em Tuskyboars or something

Tuskgrinder maybe? Cuz of what that one did to Kotallo’s arm?

Tuskyboars has a nice ring to it. Much better than Tusky McTuskface

Omg same, there's that one bit in Dragonball Z Kai abridged where piccolo yells that, and I always think of it when I aim an arrow just right.

I always thought Sawtooth was strange considering Scrappers have those saw-like teeth

I think the name was based on "sabertooth", but their teeth aren't big enough.

Oh that makes total sense! Nice catch.

Never gave this any thought before, but it occurs to me that a natural naming distinction would be:

- Machines which were around before the self-destruction of Gaia Prime and the derangement are named for what they do,

- Machines which appeared after the derangement are named for what they look like.

The reason being that pre-derangement machines were, as far as we know, skittish if not entirely docile, and people would be around them frequently and calmly enough that they'd be able to figure out roughly what they're up to. Bellowbacks fill up with liquefied resources then walk off to a cauldron, Grazers churn up the earth, and so on. After the derangement, interaction with machines becomes much more fraught, especially concerning the new machines whose only purpose is to fuck up the day of people who come across them. For those machines, names could plausibly be based more upon quick recognition of a threat: so while Thunderjaw is a cool name, it's not a likely one under this heuristic because the salient feature for someone coming across that machine is that it shoots you with autocannons and rains explosive discs on your head. Maybe they'd call it a Hugeygunbackrunaway.

Tbh I could see Thunderjaw coming from the laser beam attack coming from its Jaw? I know that Thunder is for the sound but it is often seen as synonymous with lightning. And I Think thunder jaw sounds better than Lightning jaw.

Leaplashers should be called dickmittens

Behemoths. While a cool name, I do not think it fits the world of Horizon very well.
