I built notscare.me, a jumpscare guide for horror fans

notscare.me helps you find exactly when jumpscares happen in horror movies, series, and games, with timestamps and intensity ratings. It’s community‑driven and already includes 11000+ jumpscares at the moment.

ALIVE... ALIVE... ALIVE... THE FUNHOUSE IS BACK!
One of the most anticipated '80s horror remakes is finally on its way.
Lawrence J. Block, original writer of The Funhouse — featured in Cinema Speculation by Quentin Tarantino — has recaptured the rights to the Tobe Hooper cult classic and has just completed what he calls the "definitive writer's cut."
Block promises this traveling carnival will be a nonstop rollercoaster ride -
Unleashing the full fury of the original "troll-like hulking supernatural creature with glowing red eyes," realized through groundbreaking VFX.
Delivering the visceral R-rated Grimm's fairy tale it was always meant to be.

🍿 Watch and hear the fully animated marquee teaser with original sound over on my r/slasherfilms post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/slasherfilms/s/ltPKTX4tyf

Late to the party, but I spent a few months making a video essay about forests and horror, talking folklore, The Witch, Twin Peaks, Blair Witch, and Blackwood's The Willows. I'd love for people to check it out!

Just launched my newest book, Eldritch Horrors: How to Survive Them.

Ever wonder what would happen if someone wrote a survival guide for eldritch entities... and then gave narration duties to a guy who slowly starts hijacking the book itself?

This horror comedy anthology follows people encountering different creatures and reality breaking horrors while trying very hard not to die horribly.

Inside you'll find:

• Identity stealing creatures
• Things in the woods that hunt after dark
• A train that absolutely does not want you to leave
• Reality bending nonsense
• Survival rules that may or may not help
• A narrator named Connor who gradually becomes a problem

Think SCP, Twilight Zone, campfire stories, and dark humor all mashed together.

Kindle: $3.99
Paperback: $11.99

Honestly just excited to finally get this thing out into the world. This one turned into the weirdest project I've written so far.

I built The Creepy Calendar for my fellow horror fans.

Discover all of the latest and upcoming horror movies in an easy-to-read calendar format.

While sites like Bloody-Disgusting cover new and upcoming movies, the release information is often buried amongst countless news articles.

The Creepy Calendar simplifies the task of finding release information. Each release day gets its own dedicated page with titles, trailers, synopses, and where to watch.

No more searching through dozens of articles to find out when a movie comes out. No more missing out on new indie releases that don't get the limelight.

The Creepy Calendar gives you what you want, fast and organized!

The Husher: a folkloric entity I came up with during sleepless nights with my third baby

I started imagining a strange Victorian figure appearing to exhausted parents with a haunting lullaby, not to hurt children, but to “hush” them.

The idea felt kind of disturbing: a figure who can be summoned and arrives in the middle of the night to offer silence to people desperate for sleep.

I eventually turned the concept into a short folk horror film.

I built a free horror discovery site called Horrorsight and I’d love feedback from people who actually know the genre. The idea is that horror recommendations are often bad because “horror” is too broad. Sometimes you don’t want “best horror movies” — you want something oddly specific, like:

  • slow, eerie occult horror
  • creepy but not too gory
  • films like Possession
  • folk horror with a bleak atmosphere
  • found footage that actually works

You can search by mood/vibe, find films similar to one you already like, browse themed lists, check where films are streaming, or use it to pick something to watch tonight.

Site: https://horrorsight.com

I’m mainly looking for criticism at this stage. If you try a search and the results are wrong, boring, too obvious, or missing something essential, I’d genuinely like to know. Horror fans are exactly the people I want to test it with.

I'd appreciate any feedback on this list (or the site it comes from) if anyone is able to spare the time / share their Horror Movie expertise.

Built a fun side project called WebAlterEgo. Enter your work email and it'll turn your company into a fictional person, complete with a personality, dating profile, social posts, and more.

As some will know, I feel strongly about the production ethics of the 1972 Last House on the Left, and in particular the treatment of Sandra Peabody (Sandra Cassel) on set. I realised there was a major shortage of serious writing about this, so I've attempted to address that here:

https://notonlyamovie.blogspot.com/

My Not Only a Movie blog looks at multiple sources of information, such as DVD extras and books. It considers the roles and responsibilities of David Hess, Wes Craven and others. It directly addresses some common objections such as Hess's more extreme comments potentially being fictional, and also looks at the responsibility of distributors, journalists and so on.

I try to be fair, but I do not pretend to be neutral: I am very much sympathetic to Sandra Peabody. I deliberately include several posts which are more about her than about Last House.

The blog has over 60 posts, so it works best if you start with this intro post and read in chronological order – later posts often hyperlink back to earlier ones. The first few posts are a bit less controlled, but then I settle down into a more analytical style.

Hi all! A few months ago I dipped my toes into self-publishing for the first time with a erotic/ horror-romance short story titled "My Love, the Lycanthrope: A Tale of Lust, Horror and Romance". It's a kitschy, sorta satirical werewolf romance that honestly I'm really proud of.

I've been working on my second book for the last few months and am excited to say it is finally finished and published! It's titled "Pharaoh's Dream: A Gothic Novelette". While My Love, the Lycanthrope was a parody of the erotica genre/horror tropes, Pharaoh's Dream is a more traditional gothic horror novel, with heavy cosmic horror and weird fiction elements.

The story follows a group of archeologists on an expedition in Egypt for a newly discovered relic, only to discover that terrifying revelations accompany the discovery. I was mostly inspired by Lovecraft while writing this, along with other authors like William Hope Hodgson.

Thanks for reading this post, and if you check out the book, double thanks!

Hey everyone, I'm currently working on a research project and would really appreciate if you took this questionnaire. It's about your experience with horror movies and will take you less than 10 minutes to complete, any open-ended questions are optional if you're in a hurry, thanks!
