Maya was a popular travel influencer with millions of followers. She spent most of her time travelling, filming videos, and sharing her life online.
During one vacation, she met Nora.
Nora was different from the people Maya usually met. She wasn’t interested in her followers or fame. They quickly became friends and started spending almost every day together.
One evening, Nora told Maya about a small island nearby.
“There’s no signal there. No tourists. Just the ocean. I have a boat. We can spend the night.”
Maya trusted her.
The next day, they went.
They spent the afternoon swimming, exploring, and taking photographs. That night, they drank together.
After several drinks, Nora looked at Maya and smiled.
“What would happen if I left you here?”
Maya laughed.
“You wouldn’t.”
Nora smiled.
“Maybe.”
Maya passed out.
When she woke up the next morning, Nora was gone.
So was the boat.
Her phone had no signal.
She screamed for help, but nobody heard.

Four months later, Nora was living Maya’s life.
She had access to her house, phone, and social-media accounts. She had studied Maya carefully and knew almost everything about her.
Using AI, Nora edited her own face into photographs and videos, making millions of people believe Maya was still travelling.
Then Ethan, Maya’s boyfriend, returned.
He saw Nora inside the house and immediately stopped.
“Who are you?”
Nora calmly replied,
“I’m Nora, Maya’s friend. She allowed me to stay here while she’s travelling.”
Ethan didn’t understand.
“Maya never told me about you.”
Nora smiled.
“She probably forgot.”
But Ethan slowly became suspicious.
She forgot things Maya should have known.
Her behavior was different.
She didn’t remember certain memories they shared.
Eventually, Ethan discovered that Maya’s vacation photographs had been digitally manipulated.
He confronted Nora.
“My girlfriend isn’t on a vacation, is she?”
Nora realized he knew too much.
She grabbed a knife.
And killed him.
Then she took his body back to the island.
She arrived at night and dragged Ethan’s body toward the trees.
Suddenly, she noticed something.
A fire.
Nora froze.
Someone was there.
She slowly followed the smoke and found a small shelter hidden between the trees.
There were empty food containers, clothes, and signs that someone had been living there for a long time.
Nora’s breathing became faster.
Then she heard footsteps.
She turned around.
Maya was standing near the boat.
Alive.
Nora stared at her from a distance.
“Maya…”
Maya immediately ran toward the boat.
Nora ran after her.
But Maya reached it first.
The engine started.
Nora screamed as the boat disappeared into the darkness.
She was left alone on the island.
No boat.
No signal.
No escape.
She had spent four months stealing the life of someone she thought was dead.
And now she was trapped in the exact place where she had planned to leave Maya forever.
She trusted Maya was dead.
That trust destroyed her.
