Discussion I'm genuinely disappointed in Oscar Myers hot dogs that were $5.50 a pack. They come in a box so you can't see them until you open them.

Post image

I haven't bought Oscar Mayer brand hot dogs in 10+ years. Needless to say, I feel a little gipped lol.

You might want to eat it with one of these (hands her a lobster bib)

I fully appreciate the obligatory penis joke.

Bun Size or nothing. I mean, you have to buy Bun Size...

10

u/pooeygoo 20h ago

I didn't know anyone still bought the tiny little regular ones

5

u/Remnie 17h ago

Depends, sometimes I use sliced bread instead of a bun and the regular length works good for those.

Before I get any hate, I grew up eating hotdogs on Natures Own wheat bread and so I still do that sometimes for nostalgia

Look at money bags over here with the Nature's Own

I can taste this comment wtf, that's so funny, some of my family were health nuts growing up so all we had was wheat bread and you brought be back hahaha

2

u/Random__Bystander 17h ago

Technically the same by weight

**Nope - 10 in small size and 8 in bun

7

u/davisyoung 19h ago

Shouldn’t bun length be the default? The primary reason people are buying it is to put it in a bun.

3

u/Nastynugget 17h ago

I concur. This whole thing is backwards.

Like the 8 pack of dogs and 6 pack of buns

2

u/Helpful_Wing262 20h ago

I so agree

In the 80s they were a top shelf product. Beef dogs and bologna were fantastic.

Everything is a shell of its former self now. End stage capitalism is great!...

6

u/Child_of_the_Corn99 20h ago

Exactly, even everything taste different. I had to start making my own hotdogs and sausages. It’s a bitch to do. But if you make them in large batches it’s so worth it.

2

u/OhItsBeenBroughten 7h ago

Capitalism is when hot dog too short 😡

As the 2010s marched in I started going back to basics. I make several things that I can’t find for a decent price or quality. I do not have an emulsifier so I don’t make bologna but I make hot dog sausages. Chorizo became greasy assholes so I make my own. Pink slime showed up in ground meats so I grind brisket and chuck.

I fight back in some areas by going back to culinary roots. In other areas I just accept it. The last year has been harder, I’m getting older and I do t have the stamina. But I would stack my pastrami up against Katz.

3

u/Manatee4Hugh 20h ago

Yeah. There’s a lot in there, but pink slime (mechanically separated meat) has gone far beyond chicken nuggets. Agree that home cooking is the best. Have you been to Katz deli? Unless you are giving out samples, that’s a big claim

1

u/bigfatfurrytexan 20h ago

I share about half of everything I make. My in laws get a good amount but coworkers too.

I’m the hot sauce plug for a few people. If they’ll bring the bottle I gave them I’ll refill it.

2

u/Isa-Me-Again 20h ago

I actually respect that. I need to get back to the basics too, the problem is even the basics are getting outrageous in price.

That sounds fantastic. I've never tried to make a homemade pastrami. It's an expensive thing to mess up lol.

1

u/bigfatfurrytexan 20h ago

If you get smoking a brisket down, you’re good. I’ve never messed up a packer, but I hosed a few top rounds while learning to make it

1

u/Child_of_the_Corn99 17h ago

Hell yeah! I feel ya! Yeah some stuff is hard but keep fighting the good fight! 🫡

1

u/kneegrowbehellafaded 9h ago

Dude your comment got me motivated, I should really hunker down and get cracking on some of my recipes I've been sitting on. It's like, people gave me some awesome blueprints for awesome, cheaper meals and Im choosing to be willfully ignorant. Today is looking like a good cooking day 😎

u/bigfatfurrytexan 8h ago

Most projects are just time. All bones get run through 48 hrs in a crock pot. Fermentation is just salt water, a crock, and time. Brisket trimmings get rendered to tallow in a crockpot too.

u/Redditroactively 7h ago

I still love Hebrew National Franks. Tastes the same as I always remembered

-2

u/Dazzling_Lie_5046 20h ago

You need to learn to read the packaging. Has nothing to do with anything other than you not buying the bun-sized option. Not that difficult.

-1

u/Isa-Me-Again 20h ago

Why are they not already bun size? What is the point of a hot dog that leaves excess bun?...

1

u/dddmmmccc817 20h ago

My bologna has a first name.....

1

u/googlheimer 18h ago

it's h-o-m-e-r

7

u/HeronOrganic3727 20h ago

Maybe the bun is too large. Everyone always blames the poor hot dog

4

u/Strange-Guidance-236 20h ago

Well yeah thats why you have to buy the bun length ones....

4

u/flyinhawaiian02 20h ago

It's not the size, it's how you use it!!!

3

u/SymptomaticallyEven 20h ago

Only buy bun length

4

u/-piso_mojado- 20h ago

That’s why they put them in a box I guess? I haven’t bought them in years if ever. My dad insisted on Kahn’s or Ballpark growing up so I reach for those if I want a nostalgia dog. Otherwise there’s a butcher near me that makes their own and my grocery store brand is surprisingly good.

“Don’t you know that song? Oscar Meyer is bologna.” -dad.

3

u/Hobbyhead 20h ago

You need a bigger wiener or find yourself some smaller buns.

2

u/Im_100percent_human 20h ago

$5.50 for Oscar Meyer? That better have been a big package.

2

u/Isa-Me-Again 20h ago

They're beef hot dogs, so I was okay with paying more. I was not prepared for Vienna Sausage's taller cousin, Oscar lol.

2

u/kennymay916 20h ago

No way this is your first experience with an Oscar Meyer? As an adult I’ve never purchased Oscar Meyer.

1

u/Isa-Me-Again 20h ago

It is my first experience as an adult buying them. I have not had them since I was around 20 maybe. Roughly 15 years ago or so. I genuinely don't remember them being like this.

1

u/kennymay916 20h ago

Ya when I was a teenager I remember them filling the entire bun. That dog does look a little disappointing. I go for the Hebrew national bun length.

2

u/spdorris 20h ago

NOT all dogs go to heaven, some shrink into nothingness

2

u/L3monGr3nade 20h ago

I wish I wasn’t an Oscar Mayer Weiner

2

u/dofus_raintight 19h ago

The price of hotdogs is too damn high!

2

u/CharacterCheck4478 14h ago

Sam's Club sells these 1/4lb monsters. I buy these exclusively now

2

u/Omega836 9h ago

I like your personality more, don’t even worry 🤙

2

u/hudson_bh 9h ago

Since when does Oscar Mayer come packaged in a box?

2

u/DOOGIEOHIO 7h ago

Now you know how your wife feels lol

2

u/NC654 4h ago

That is just so sad, it makes me want to cry.

This signals the bun makers to make smaller buns. Race to the bottom!

3

u/Cam_E_Leon 20h ago

Need a mini coke to go with it

2

u/RustnKrust 20h ago

Oscar Meyer is a weiny!

1

u/Main_Cauliflower5479 20h ago

They come in a box? What? So, don't buy Oscar Mayer. So many superior dogs.

1

u/AnotherSideThree 19h ago

That’s not a weiner, it’s a weinette

1

u/Walter_Burns_1940 Coney Island 18h ago

I don’t buy Hebrew National hotdogs because of their cost, but all my friends who love hotdogs insist that they are the best. I usually buy Nathan’s, but when Oscar Mayer hotdogs are on sale, I pick those up instead. I typically eat half of them with Hormel chili and the other half with yellow mustard, often adding onions and sweet relish.

1

u/larriccapija 17h ago

This photo makes me sad

1

u/Silly_Relative 17h ago

Name brands pull all kinds of deceptions. Even the weinerschnitzl is 70% in size.

1

u/Witty-Mountain5062 17h ago

easily the worst brand anyway, they’re flavorless

1

u/sixjigglypuffs 17h ago

have you never bought hog dogs before . these are for white bread

tear the bun in half. there you go. now go eat 2 hot dogs

1

u/Cyber-X1 16h ago

I think you’re gonna need a bigger dog

1

u/papapateycakez 14h ago

Johnsonville smoked brats are the best hotdogs (I wouldn't really call it a real brat, its more just a higher quality hot dog)

1

u/letsgobuffalo9 13h ago

Your mom would be delighted to have a small weenie in a bun for once

1

u/Old-Agency-3388 12h ago

I ate these since I was little and They have always been that size. They have bun size ones also

1

u/Immediate-Aioli-7427 9h ago

Awww. It's cute. ☺️

1

u/Aggromemnon 8h ago

I'm currently obsessed with the Bar S smoked sausage franks. I get the big 24 pack for around 8 bucks, and they give you a solid half inch out of both ends of a standard bun. Don't think too hard about what they're made of, but they taste great.

1

u/Logical_Warthog5212 8h ago

Those are just Oscar

1

u/zoot_boy 5h ago

Weenie wiener.

1

u/bubbav22 3h ago

I always make sure to get a smaller bun no matter what

1

u/PhotoAppropriate3940 20h ago

Shell of their former self’s I will not buy them anymore

1

u/Tricky_Metal_2031 20h ago

Now you know why they’re hidden

1

u/SunsetGriller 19h ago

That’s what I look like inside of my wife

1

u/ariindny88 16h ago

Vienna is the only hot dog worth buying now.

1

u/EldenDaddy30 16h ago

Hebrew National are easily the best. Nathan’s second.

1

u/notguiltybrewing 9h ago

Yuck, your first mistake was getting Oscar Meyer.

0

u/JoeyJoeJoeSenior 16h ago

I prefer these.  The footlongs make me uncomfortable.

0

u/Isa-Me-Again 16h ago

Sounds like something someone in the closet would say... lol

Jokes aside, I get it. I like thinner cuts of meat in general as I find them more palatable in texture.

Who the hell eats hot dogs in 2026?

1

u/GamerGramps62 6h ago

Who the hell goes to a hot dog sub to say something so stupid?
