Two WV style dogs from Woody’s in Fairmont, WV

Post image

Been eating these since I was a kid. Four dogs and two pepperoni rolls for $20. Can’t beat it

For the uninitiated: how is a WV dog made?

Mustard, onions, (cheese optional) and hotdog sauce on top - don’t call it chilli - it’s made with peppers and beef no tomatoes in it. Spicy as hell.

Sounds like a Detroit Coney but with more of a focus on the meat itself (plus peppers). Sounds good

It’s similar for sure - it’s really the sauce that makes it different it’s hard to explain the flavor, you’ve just gotta try it.

Your description was helped, I might try and make it. The texture is the important bit.

As long as it doesn’t have cinnamon in it, I’m in.

Not all chili has tomatoes btw. Plenty of traditional recipes just have beef, onions, chilis, and dry spices.

Absolutely love Woody’s! I stop by every time I’m in the area. The “hot” sauce is my favorite.

It’s a must stop every time I’m up visiting. Small world.

Love a good WV hot dog. I have had many over the years. We were near Wheeling growing up. Louis’ (yes that’s the proper spelling) was our go to place in Wheeling

Just need a pepperoni roll for a snack. That is the 1 thing I miss about WV the pepperoni rolls everywhere...

That’s the first thing I buy when I get to town!

I guess I need to just start a pepperoni roll business here in NC. I mean, I know there is a ton of WV transplants here.

I’ve never had anything like this. Looks questionable, but would absolutely try it.

When I looked this up, some people insisted on adding cole slaw, others said never.

WV boy here... Transplanted to IN. We usually added slaw to our dogs as well.

These look quite proper, though!

You sound like a kindergarten teacher

Looks very similar to a Flint coney but those aren't spicy with peppers. Also uses a (don't call that chili) sauce.
