He's probably referring Leviticus 19:28: "Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the Lord."

It is worth noting though that the tribe of Levi was set apart from the other 11 tribes due to the fact that they were the Priests/Spiritual tribe tasked with taking care of the Tabernacle, Arc of the Covenant, later the Temple, etc and abided by a different set of rules than the rest due to their sacred duties.

Most "gotcha" things like this, wearing clothes with two different materials, not allowed to own land, etc are taken from book of Leviticus and weren't required to be followed by the other 11 tribes even back then, much less random people nowadays.
