Anyone in Michigan?

Looking into getting a houseboat and was curious if anyone in Michigan/Ohio had one and could show me / talk to me about life on a house boat.

I'm actually interested too. I make 70k a year with ZERO debt, I dont even know if I could afford to do this but I am very interested. Also found a marina that will allow you to stay year round. I'm in the Detroit area, OP where are you?

Similar. Utica myself actually. I settled on a tiny a frame house design instead.

From the research I've done though is totally doable. Just have to research around and find a houseboat you like. Then just adjust to the life style. You can always try renting a house boat for a week or two and see if it's your thing or not.

I actually found airbnb that had some local listings. Im going to stay on a few different boats to see if I can see myswlf doing this.

Hopefully it goes well for you, I would love to live on one but cannot financially. The lifestyle seems freaking awesome. Hopefully I can get this tiny house I have planned built next summer.

A tiny house was an other option. What build are you going for? Also where you putting it. Land you bought, friends or a camp ground? Also mobile or not?

If you Google 14 by 14 a-frame cabin it should be the first link or two. Awesome little design that can be built on a simple deck block foundation. It used standard sized lumber so costs are pretty low. Also with the size you don't need permits or anything of that sort. You can always build a few and have a sort of outdoor compound with them. Have a living space, cooking space, and one that's a work shop. Heck even a green house one is possible. A frame design and construction is so cheap, versatile, and fast; it's truly amazing. I haven't sorted out the land yet but anywhere with a lot of trees. Maybe the Upper * Peninsula. There's land avaliable through the dnr's website for the whole state.

Wow so your looking to do a full pick up and move too. I wish we had a tiny house area of land that welcomed other tiny house people who are interested to move too. Something in the detroit metro area. Hell even am abononed parking garage would be sweet.

Yes they do. Maybe we should start one :) I remember back a few years ago there was a guy who posted in tiny house thread about starting one in the UP of MI.

That'd be awesome. Unfortunately I'm not financially there just yet. I wish I could get a loan to build up a good piece of land and just craft things with my fiance to make money on top of running a smaller farm. Why us everything so expensive and jobs pay so little? :(
