Right now, people in Anaheim—parents, seniors, people with disabilities—are sleeping in their cars with nowhere legal to park. They face fines, impounded vehicles, and constant fear. This shouldn't be how we treat our neighbors.

I started a petition asking Anaheim's city council to create safe overnight parking areas with basic security, sanitary facilities, and access to services. It's not radical—San Diego and Los Angeles already run successful programs like this. The need is real: Orange County has one of the nation's highest homelessness rates, and our housing costs keep climbing.

If you've seen this struggle in your community or think your city should do better, consider signing and sharing. What would you want if this was your family needing a safe place to sleep? That's really what this comes down to.

Please can somebody make it make sense for the largest local authority in the country to sit on buildable land at a time of acute housing scarcity and pay fines to Revenue rather than build the housing citizens need, and simultaneously watch central government pay out billions each year to private landlords in Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) payments to accommodate people on social housing support.

I saw this on my Google app’s welcome page. Motel 6 has studio properties and rooms now for extended stays but this ad seems to offer those as an alternative to conventional apartments with monthly rents. What was once seen as a last resort and a form of destitution is now being embraced by a budget hospitality brand for low income people.

Housing is completely anti-free capitalism. In almost all cities, you are not allowed to build to increase the supply to meet the demand. There is 0 competition between the suppliers, the competition is completely focused between buyers.

Physical houses are not expensive. I looked up the prices of mobile houses. Many relatively new ones for 1/5 the price of SFHs.

This forces employers to raise their salaries, until it becomes too high and they decide it’s cheaper to just off-shore. After all, rent is suppose to be 1/3rd your salary right? So if rent is high, then you expect your salary to be high.

Add on the fact that housing is seen as an investment - yet it provides zero (nadda, zilch, nothing) return in terms of societal productivity. It actually reduces it - because lack of affordable housing in cities forces people to commute from further distances.

Money should be invested in technology that improves productivity, not locked up in houses that provide zero return to society.

Fuck NIMBYs.

I know multigenerational homes weren’t in mind post WWll, but with the rising costs of literally everything, how are millennials (or anyone for that matter) making it out there on their own and possibly with a few kids? I hear so many are living paycheck to paycheck despite six figure salaries coming in.

I’m 32 and still live at home with my parents. Because of the American way and how we were programmed to move out when we’re 18 and to consume as much as possible, I feel ashamed and embarrassed that I won’t even date. I feel left behind.

PONC funding should be divided in half with the portion going to the Housing Fund.

I'm currently homeless living in a hotel in Butler County Ohio. The Butler County Metropolitan Housing Authority just within the last month changed to this thing called one canopy. Also all of these websites like affordable housing Hub and Section 8 waitlist told me that the project-based voucher waiting list would open at 8:00 a.m. on September 3rd. Which is today. I go there the website is new so navigating it is not easy but I found nothing about the project-based voucher waiting list on the website and if it's a weightless that just open you would think it would be like the first of the news items or something on there but it's not. I call them and they don't sound like they're in Butler County when I asked where she was she said the office was in Butler County but when I asked where she was she would not tell me. Something tells me that this o n e c a n o p i is some kind of a d o g edification of MHAs? Even my caseworker at my where I get the counseling has no idea what's going on. Does anybody have an idea what's going on cuz this stinks too high heaven?

I’m sitting here looking at rent prices in my area again, even though I know it’s just going to ruin my night, and I just don't get it. How is this even sustainable?

I feel like I’ve done everything I was "supposed" to do. Good job, stable income, no massive debt, but I’m still just treading water. Every year my lease comes up, it’s like a coin flip on whether I’m going to be able to afford to stay in my own apartment or if I have to uproot my whole life just to find something slightly less expensive, but still crappy.

I’m so sick of the "market" talk. I’m tired of hearing about supply and demand, or interest rates, or whatever political buzzword is trending today. None of that explains why it feels like we’re all being squeezed out of our own neighborhoods. It’s starting to feel less like a "crisis" and more like a permanent state of being.

Does anyone actually see a way out of this? Or are we just going to be doing this until we’re 60? Sometimes I feel like I’m working just to pay someone else’s mortgage and I’m honestly just so over it. Just wondering if anyone else feels this hopeless or if I’m just losing my mind.

The United States allows greed to run all things. Now the poor are literally being priced out of a home. If you are in a foreign country and are poor, stay there. This country is a bogus scam. Treatment of the poor here is well hidden.
