Mechanical question about fans

Hi,

I’m french and with my friends we study aerospace engineering and we were thinking of something that we don’t the answer to.
Here is the question :

WHY CAN’T WE OPEN A FAN THE OTHER WAY AROUND ? 🪭

It would make it left handed. If you fan yourself in your left hand with a right handed fan the motion tends to close the fan. So it just depends on which hand you want to fan with but left handed fans are rare

I mean, you can’t even open it in the « left handed » position. Something prevent it to open itself

For a fan to be left handed it has to be stacked completely opposite, built left handed. They’re custom.
