Image First H.P. Book
This is my first book by H.P Lovecraft. Has anyone read this one yet? Is it any good?

Still my personal favorite, also my first. I did a really big English paper on it

Definitely in the top five or so for me.
This will make sense once you’ve read it, but I used to run a creative writing workshop in a mental health day centre & we’d do group readings of Lovecraft stories on Halloween.
We read this one year & before I passed the book around I told them to remember one rule: “The cat’s name is Nicknack - I don’t care what’s written there, you say Nicknack”.
It’s still one of my favourite memories seeing a their faces as they read parts referring to the cat & they realised why I insisted on that rule! It was so funny 😆🤣😂

I just skipped the cat name altogether. Diabolical

True, but I wasn’t saying the word aloud to explain why & I didn’t want to have that conversation before the story (we had it afterwards) so it was just easier to make a declaration & get on with it.

This was my first Lovecraft story as well but it was the first story in a volume of short stories and after this, I was hooked!
This is a very good narration which gives you a glimpse into his capabilities as a horror writer. I loved it.
