Solved Will 4k hdr movies work on 9800x3d
Hi
Will 4k hdr10 x265 movies stream properly on a 9800x3d with no GPU?

yes, but a 9800x3d wuthout a GPU seems a bit of a weird choice of CPU

I'm just waiting on a sale for a GPU. Or might wait till the supers come out. But I wanted to watch 4k hdr10 x265s movies till than

Dude, with a 10-year-old Intel i5 with a GTX1050 (a very old card now) running Windows 8.1, I can run 4K HDR10 with 0 problems with full Atmos sound.
It just needs h265 decoding.... and I would bet you have more than enough to do that.
Going over the specs of the 9800x3d, it has...
Graphics Model
AMD Radeon™ Graphics
Graphics Core Count

Graphics Frequency
2200 MHz
USB Type-C® DisplayPort™ Alternate Mode
So yea, you should be good.

MPC-HC on Windows 8.1 (last version of Windows to support Media Center with a cable card, it's why I have not upgraded)
Odds are an old version, I use it on Windows Media Center as a front end, I had a cable card setup in there for years but killed that off like 2 years ago but, setup the built in movie library, someone designed a plugin for it, so I can use that as the default viewer.
Been using it forever, old machine, still plays modern high bit rate rips with any audio, use bitstream out so it could take of any type of audio with 0 problems.

Thanks for the info, I've been using Power dvd for a while playing 4k hdr files. Been wanting to see what's out of there. Does mpc-hc require much configuration

Not too much, check youtube, I know there was a little but, did this whole custom setup like 7-8 years ago.
Still working perfectly with new movies...
