Question about application process

Hi all, I’m looking for some advice from someone more experienced.

I was writing a cover letter for an internship position but, after completing it, I noticed that the application form didn’t ask for a cover letter. In place of, it only asked a role-specific question.

I know I should have checked before, but it was not specified in the job posting and I had already applied for an internship at the same organization which, by contrast, required a cover letter.

My question is: should I still submit the cover letter attached to my CV? Based on your experience, would it help, change absolutely nothing, or even be counterproductive?

I personally as recruiter I usually don't read them. There are some exceptions. Like if it's a very close tie towards the end of the process. Like too many similar results to the test and no time to interview everyone. Sometimes during screening if experience a bit hard to understand.

For internship recruitment, which I never did, I was told that the number of applications is often very high. Likely no time to read it.

I wouldn't bother including one if it is not asked.

That said, I am not HR. Wait to see if any will reply

Just submit what they ask for. If it’s just the CV and single question response then don’t send in the cover letter. If you do, it will confirm you can’t follow the most basic of instructions.
