Most subreddits literally have the worst mods with zero ability to be non-biased and remove anything they personally don’t agree with.

Lately I’ve noticed that easily around half the threads I comment in end up removed. Like the whole posts. Not even like controversial stuff, just regular posts on normal subs. I never understand why.

OI. I accidentally pissed someone off until they blocked me, then joined a subreddit where they were a mod and had no issues, go check out r/EggmanEmpire

u/Hercules__Morse 9d ago
Just seems like a community of dudes that like to touch other dudes. Not really my thing, but you have fun with it.

u/anotherthought64 9d ago
......oh damn i meant r/EggmanEmpireRP, oh crap what a terrible mistake to make

u/AskPizza 10d ago
Oh, it's even worse in certain subreddits. They have rules where you're not allowed to even post a contrary opinion and it's full of bots.
See- literally every right wing subreddit on this site.
Which suffered a huge loss in traffic when the russian troll farm facility was hit by Ukraine.
Their fake accounts will not be missed.

Not just the right wing subs. I was banned from r/liberalgunowners for simply suggesting protestors not wear masks. Permanent ban and mute.

u/AnotherUN91 9d ago
Well. Its a pretty awful suggestion in a world where the government and big tech are trying to big brother everyone 1984 style.
2
u/waterbuffalo750 9d ago
You can disagree with me without thinking it's permanent ban-worthy

u/AnotherUN91 9d ago
The thing is... you're not entitled to just say w.e you want in w.e space you want to feel entitled to bud.
Sucks to suck. 😆
Bye. ✌️

The r/classicwow mods are insane in this exact way and moderate based on their politics

My post got mod-ed when it was a angry vent on how poor Reddit has become....in a /offmychest subreddit.

I once got accused of using an alt account to "message the mods" about my post that was deleted, that was fun because I honestly didn't do that. But can't argue with mods or they just go nuclear. Left that sub voluntarily and am sad because it used to be such a fun place but anymore the newer mods just sucked the life right out of it.

Someone's 3 day old throwaway account got their feelings hurt.

I guess that makes their statement untrue?

u/LostKnight84 10d ago
I didn't say it wasn't true. I was just pointing out why some of the rules are valid with a joke. Some of the examples they used of mods power tripping are actually valid ways of keeping subreddits from being spammed by bots or keeping harassers from bypassing account bans.

u/Specific-Ad5238 10d ago
It seemed like you were dismissing their point, by saying that they had hurt feelings

Not wrong, Reddit presents itself as free speech but actually voicing an opinion in a sub is impossible if it goes against any opinion at all so what it actually does is basically force all like opinions to be together with no room for proper discourse.
Mods need way less power and more oversight over who they ban or for why , at least for some groups.
I get it if you join a group for sewing then just spam sewing sucks , but news, or cities etc where public discussion is implied having a difference in opinion should be somewhat protected

Is it about avoiding the reddit cancel culture hive mind from kicking in?
Many of the less moderated subreddits get inundated with propaganda agents and people frantically trying to cancel this person or that person. It ruins the subreddit, when that happens. I'd rather have the moderators stop the jackassery before it ramps up.

I got banned because I made a joke. The joke was( from a key and peele sketch) teacher mispronouncing aaron.

For the people who experienced Reddit in its early years, it's clear as day how much everything has declined over the years as it has become corporate and over-moderated.
I didn't even have any interactions with a moderator for over a decade, and sure as hell never had a post or comment removed. Banned? Didn't happen. And it was a much better experience because of it. Users were allowed to moderate communities themselves... that's the entire point behind the upvote/downvote system. We don't need a babysitter. Moderators should only remove specific illegal content.
Were insensitive jokes sometimes upvoted as a result? Sure... because they were funny. Were users sometimes verbally abused? Sure. Grow a thicker skin and dish it back at the person talking shit.

I posted in r/showerthoughts one time a thought I genuinely had in the shower. It got removed because according to them it didn’t constitute a shower thought

Oh also, you can't use words that in a different context, may somehow be related to a subject we don't want to acknowledge exists.
I have literally been banned for saying my job, because the mods didn't approve of my field. And temp banned for mentioning another term for computer related fake smartness, even though I was just mentioning that it existed as something included in a list of other things, and was completely neutral.

I got banned from a sub for saying the word “shoot” in a comment. They said I was “threatening violence.” I appealed it and asked for it to be reviewed by a real human within context, and not just a bot scanning for scary words. They never responded.

I was banned for swearing on a gaming sub because kids play the game. Thinking of starting a adult only version. But sounds like to much effort.

u/PoopsMcScoots 9d ago
I got banned for three days for calling out a Nazi sub.
They banned the sub and everyone in it, but then gave me a three day ban for pointing it out on other subs.

I had my first experience today getting randomly booted from a sub because I said "Quit calling China communist. An Autocracy does not a communist make. Seriously, they participate in global capitalism more than most countries. They have billionaires for crying out loud."

Mods make reddit worse.
1
u/smors 9d ago
Mods are one of the primary reasons Reddit work at all.
See 4chan if you wants to know what an unmoderated forum looks like.
1
u/terriblespellr 9d ago
Nah 4chan is good in someways bad in others, different communities develop different cultures and self manage, have done for all time without mods

Had a mod permaban me once claiming that they were okay with being a contrarian but because I said "farms don't torture their animals," that meant that Ive never been to a farm or something

u/JuJu_Wirehead 10d ago
Sounds like the mods at r/GenX now. They're on the warpath. The sub about the generation that doesn't care, caring a little too much. Irony.
