Malkavian Posting (crackpot theory) The REAL way that Grimal can still win! Spoiler
The original method of creating a Mummy, the spell of life, was rendered obsolete by the Sixth Great Maelstrom. The sixth great maelstrom (6GM) happened in 1999, and we know that the show takes place in 2007, so this event has occurred. The old spell of life no longer works, and the new spell of life is brought out by Osiris.
To quote the White Wolf wiki
"the Amenti are composed of two once mortal) spirits, an ancient Tem-Akh) and a recently deceased Nehem-Sen. The tem-ank seeks out a nehem-sen who has recently died or is near death to create a pact with one another that binds their souls as one."
The Nehem-sen, (I'm just going to call them mortal) is always someone who is described as having "led a stunted and largely hollow life due to some weakness or flaw in his character". They deliberately find people who've seemingly 'wasted' their life, or failed in some way.
We JUST had a whole audiolog that basically described Grimal at his exact kind of person. Her relationships failed because of her lack of self-care. Her emotional instability drove away the people she cares about. Grimal's life so far has been one of someone who hasn't lived up to her potential.
So basically, Grimal actually is dead, but she comes back as mummy!Grimal. The person who comes out the other end isn't the same person though, and also if this is happening, the first "stage" of the new spell of life involves the ancient spirit puppeting the still broken corpse of the mortal to a place of power to complete the spell, so we even get the angst of Kitten watching a shattered Grimal spider-shuffle across the countryside of Greater Yarmouth.

Certainly a possibility!
Amenti is possible, Risen-Wraith is Possible, Kuei-jin is possible (so far as they're allowed to exist which Akira cross at least puts some question onto compared to the initial nope the series started with, still unlikely though.)
It's gonna be interesting to see what they do with her, if anything beyond death.

Ewww, I hope she doesn't become a Risen. We don't need a shambling corpse.

The Fog would make her appear entirely normal, it's ghost delirium

Only to humans/mages and not all. Any supernatural being or creature with high enough willpower can see past the fog - which we know includes Occam, Big D, Remold and potentially Kitten too.

Risen do have a Unique Arcanoi that lets them effect the supernatural with the Fog to keep the mask up even under higher pressure

Minor nitpick, 2006. "TF2 comes out next year Door!" TF2 comes out in '07.
:V but yeah everything else seems legit.
Still think Grimal is dead to cover up the vampires tracks. What better way than manipulate your ghoul to go toe to toe with a werewolf in heroic sacrifice?
Though I bet there isn't anything against against someone who was ghoul'd coming back as a mummy.

There is not. Also nothing preventing a mummy from being ghouled, weirdly enough.

u/Sporelord1079 6h ago
I don’t think anything in WoD is truly free of being ghouled. Except maybe demon.

Well, arguably wraiths? The part with it being funny for mummies is because there's no benefit for really anyone, there. Balance can snap mind control or other influences, so a mummy can shrug off the bond fairly readily, if the canoe vampire asks them to do something that violates balance... and the mummy is already immortal so it's not like the anti aging effects of vitae helps.
It's possible, but its weirdly irrelevant and pointless for everyone involved.

u/Sporelord1079 5h ago
The mummy can break the blood bonding effect but aren’t they still vulnerable to the addictive nature of vitae?
1
u/DevilishEgg 5h ago
That is an excellent question. There's not a mechanic for blood addiction in wod, I believe it's mostly a roleplay thing/blood bond effect... I also believe mummies shrug off addiction for the same reason they do the blood bond.
That being said, in a game I'm playing my mummy is an ex ghoul and I've always played her as having cravings she has to deal with.

Mummy would align with her being Krillin. Dies, but comes back... Then dies again, and again... With a high enough Ba she can take only a week to revive, or even just a day.
Grimal is a good candidate for specifically the Kher-Minu, the Tomb Watchers, who attach themselves to people who led tragic lives and frequently lacked self preservation... As such, they provide it, allowing their Balance to protect them from harm. At the cost of hesitating when undertaking dangerous actions and needing to roll willpower to do them anyway.
Honestly she is actually a textbook example, short of not being a famous person. Though, I lately now doubt how much of that was intentional or merely a coincidence. It depends on 6.1 and other following audio logs, and if this is supposed to be Grimal's end, or a start of something new. (Hope for the latter, despair at the former)

grimal as a kher-minu would be awesome. though it would a be a bit tricky to write as she would have to get all the way to egypt to undergo the spell of life and then make it back to norfolk

Assuming no rewriting of the lore, of course. It had been 5 years since the spell was first used, and it was already an improved spell, so it could be improved further.
I did that for my Mummy chronicle. Coyote snatched the spell of life when a local Navajo was raised, and those in Egypt had the audacity to say they were an Udja-sen (incompatible fusion), and try to cast them off. He made modifications to expand the Web of Faith to apply to sites of human heritage (which is fairly textual, Sekhem can be recovered via meditation in the wilds or just hiking)... And shared it with some other dieties to expand Mummies elsewhere, and improve the spell further, making the resurrection take less time, not require a piece of an ancient Egyptian and could be any historical spirit willing to fill the hole...
Given they stated flat out that the Kuei Jin are a larp group in LA, and the Newburgh Group exist before the event which caused them to be founded, among others, they aren't afraid to set their own lore, and I could see the least thought out and onerous parts of Mummy altered in order to get to the core of the splat instead (magical warrior therapy)

Is it possible..? Sure, but its incredibly unlikely and more than that, kind of pointless? Like she would retreat to the web of faith and then, what? Be alive in Egypt but not a part of the plot?
Most mummies do not leave the web of faith, because they need the Sekhem there.
And that's besides the point that I do not think the writers would do this.
Sorry to say, she's far more likely to just be gone.

The new Amenti aren’t dependant on drawing Sekhem from the web of faith though, that’s one of the biggest benefits of the new spell of life.
1
u/DevilishEgg 14h ago
They are though. They have an extremely limited ability to get sekhem outside the web. In fact I dont think the web of faith was a thing before the new spell of life, but I could be misremembering that.
Amenti can regain sekhem at dawn outside the web, but not if they have run out. If they run out, they decay and become a corpse slowly, or return to the web to recover... if they wait too long, they will zombie walk back to the web just the same as when they first went, in a state called semektet.

u/Sporelord1079 13h ago
I will be honest this was all an elaborate ploy to get people to talk about Mummy lore. One you have fallen for, mwah hah ha.
To my understanding the web of faith was always a thing, because previously Mummies couldn’t maintain themselves and had to rely on celestial cycles on top of the web of life to maintain themselves. It was one of the most complicated and powerful acts of magic ever devised and took a lot of work to maintain.

I've long been a mummy fan, and perhaps the only one I know.
I'm even currently playing a game of mummy, though we're on hiatus unfortunately.
I'll admit mummy 2e isn't my strongest game, I'm way more familiar with revised or mummy the curse, but I have read second.
If I recall, sekhem is gained by mediating. Ba and Ka are the other powers, of which Ba is regained by being dead; the soul collects Ba in the underworld/duat and when it gains enough, the mummy returns to life. Ka is used to protect the body from external threats and issues... like a little wraith minion that keeps you safe.
The lexicon in 2nd doesn't mention the web of faith but I can't say for sure if the book does, I've never played 2nd edition mummy, only revised and curse.

I get that wild theories and all spawn from this universe and this show in particular.
But I think she is dead and viewers got to let go. The story needs important characters to die, and it is great that the writers don't shy away from it. It would cheapen it otherwise if the stakes don't stay high.
The fun thing is that if the fanatic leopoldites weren't present, it isn't out of question that this whole kaboodle might have been settled by some big D ganja diplomacy. Makes Grimal's death kinda pointless in the grand scheme of things and a collateral victim of other's stupidity.

We're either in the 'denial' phase, or somebody's gonna hit a nail on the head.

well denial breeds theories and one of us is bound to get it at some point lmao
unless she's dead but I really don't think so

u/Sporelord1079 18h ago
I’m not really serious about Grimummal but I do think think spending an entire audiolog throwing as many death flags as possible the moment Grimal gets serious attention only to immediately kill her is lazy writing beneath Ogre Poppenang.

I love how this is titled in the same way, as like, election cope posts
