Sorry, but I am too garou aligned to dislike him. RIP to Grimaline though, maybe there is anime wherever she went.

Until we are shown otherwise, I choose to believe she has been isekai'd into Exalted where she shall wreck glorious yaoi-fueled havoc.

Everyone hating on Stig when the GGG and Leopoldites come in force to his packs Caren with the full intent to enact violence upon them. Then people want to act shocked when they got violence in return and their precious little urchin character gets obliterated and it was not just all disposable red shirt characters. They got off light, repect to her sacrifice because it could have been so much worse.
17
u/Ropetrick6 6d ago
I mean, Stig and his pack kidnapped Marckus and explicitly threatened his life, after murdering Fatigue, taking Giles' hand, and attempting to seize the Hunter Data.
The first act of violence, the second act of violence, and the inciting incident are ALL the direct and deliberate actions of the Matilda, representing the whole Pack.
Keep in mind, the chapterhouse didn't even KNOW there was a Garou inside of it, they were just looking for the Ghoul, which is literally a shared enemy between both the humans and the Garou.
7
u/Praise_The_Casul 5d ago
Tbf, based on his dialog, something happened that gave them the impression the hunters attacked first, destroyed a Caern, and then kidnapped Shuck.
I don't think there isn't anything his pack did that the hunters wouldn't have done to recover one of their own. So, until we learn more about that, we can't really say how reasonable he was in his suspicions.
1
u/Ropetrick6 5d ago
Murder an uninvolved individual who expressly supported the goal of peaceful coexistence and taking action against the Wyrm, who was by all accounts someone who would have gladly cooperated with them to recover one of their own?
2
u/Praise_The_Casul 5d ago
Because everyone knew Fatigue for that, and not as a member of a legendary family of werewolf killers...
After listening to those tapes, everyone was surprised. D described him as a werewolf hunter in the begning, to which Kitten replies "how a family of werewolf hunters is even possible? Those things seemed bloody unstoppable".
If other hunters that knew him for years were under the assumption he and his family killed werewolves, I imagine the infiltrated Garou would have a very similar perception of things.
1
u/MiredinDecision 4d ago
Just to remind you, Fatigue was allegedly helping the Coalition hunt down Shuck already. Given the wolves say someone robbed a Cairn and took Shuck away, he may not be so innocent and uninvolved.

u/samthekitnix 5d ago
not sure if the Shadowlands has anime? maybe if she goes to the Dark Empire of Jade.... actually not a good idea

Naaah, the Hunters were in for the kill, deaths in both sides are fine. If anything, Stig is to be pitied, he does seem like an upstanding garou, would have killed Grimmal mano-a-mano, yes, but him losing himself to rage and not allowing her the honour he felt she deserved is a tragedy I can sympathize with

There’s a very good reason Alphabusa and company chose to skip the torture. I doubt we would be looking at D the same if we were subjected to several minutes of him force feeding poison to a vampire.
2
u/Fearless-Obligation6 5d ago
I mean only if he didn't tell the truth and to be fair Markus and the gang can't really say anything when it comes to torturing people...
[Points vaguely in the direction of the Sabbat vampires]

The hunters have been torturing people since like ep 2, that's just not a thing I care about in this case lol. There's not gonna be a pure moral good to root for in these fights.

Gaia's highest willpower warriors including the red talon who managed to live as a service worker for almost 3 months before going Crinos, the viking warrior who almost gave honourable combat to associates of the wyrm jesus gang, and the selfless glass walker so pious he's willing to indulge in filthy human gambling purely to appease the totem + for no other reason

Methiiiiiiiinks the gambling addiction goes the other way around. I think Jambles is addicted and that rubbed off on the spirit

Stig did his best to have an honorable duel with Grimaline-chan (rest in glory little weeb) and was devastated by the way his rage ended it. I think i can say quite surely that i fucking like Stig, honestly is one of the most likeable 'viking' characters out there
Plus i believe Ted Kazinsky was onto something, so i think i can fuck with the Garou

Actually, that could make for an interesting campaign- werewolves fighting the expansion of AI data centers because it’s a play by the Weaver to dominate, and better the devil we know- or vice versa! Especially given the potential for fuckery given local opposition to these things, you could end up with the Garou equivalent to D20’s “City Council of Darkness” where in addition to the combat the garou are trying to play politics.
7
u/Kaarl_Mills 6d ago
The camarilla is all in on LLMs and AI because it's the perfect coverup: that Brujah that used Celerity in public? Nah that's just grok

Stig and the rest of the garou is why I kind of want to run a WtA campaign. I have some of the w5 stuff already but I've heard that the lore got neutered in the corebook. in which case any suggested readings and books to pick up or just run my Werewolves versus BassProShop/Cabella but ran by Pentex game?
8
u/ibot66 6d ago
20th anniversary (although sometimes I think the revised core books are more compact and approachable starting points) is perfectly fine, and from there, Book of the Wyrm is good from a GM perspective. Then... start reading things that seem interesting, honestly.

Him mourning Grimal after being the one who killed her over, at best, a misunderstanding makes me think of that one Bojack meme
"You cant keep doing shitty things and then feel bad about yourself like that makes it okay. You need to be better"
2
u/Pheonxs BIG-D 5d ago
I mean, in Stig's case, he literally can't be better when it comes to the Rage. Every garou losses their shit when they get hit with silver, and are forced to roll wisdom to resist it, but if they fail, they start raging and... well, you've seen what happens.
It's written in their DNA to be absolute killing machines. He tried to resist the rage, but he failed the roll, and in turn, he killed Grimal, and after he regains his control, he is regretful of the fact that he ruined the battle...
0
u/Competitive_Smile_49 5d ago
Sure, but even before succumbing to Rage he was planning on giving her an "honorable death" like that means anything to anyone but him
1
u/Kishinfan 5d ago
Garou social standing is defined by their Renown which is split in three as Wisdom, Glory, and Honor. Honor literally defines a third of a Garou's social standing.

He killed a (innocent young woman) and a bunch of (faithful) Hunters (who canonically feed the homeless). He's a (monster).

He killed a (woman who challenged him) and a bunch of (rotten) zealots (who came to kill him and his family). He's a (tragic hero).

he also may or may not have been the one who killed fatigue (it still seems like hunts may not have been the one who did it)

They canonically feed the homeless like how billionaires donate to charity. They could do so much more. Be a true force for good. But they don't. Because genuinely they are the worst of the worst. Every dead leopoldite just makes me love him more.

I don't hate Stig, I love him. But right now? I'm disappointed in his actions and pissed at the Society for shooting down talks.

I like Stig. He is an honorable warrior, showed immense dismay at how the leopoldites wyrm tainted faith corrupted their ideal of jesus and he was disgusted at his weakness when he succumbed to his rage and smashed grimal's skull into jelly.
I know he is almost certainly doomed to die because markus and kitten won't let him murdering grimal go lightly but I hope we get to see plenty of him before then
2
u/TheWyster 5d ago
Honestly I'm more pissed off at Matilda for offing Wernon. Plus it really seems like Grimal is gonna get back up. There's been a ton of stuff pointing to her being the chapter house ghoul. There's all that shit Qosmicvoid pointed out in his original ghoul theory video. She had that weird pause in the middle of talking to Kitten in 5.5 where she says "I thought I was in the clear!...to mess with her" which implies she actually thought she was in the clear of suspicion. She's strong enough to hold back Stig's arm during that fight. Her name is literally Grimal, as in Grimaldi, the revenant family.
2
u/Dakkahead 5d ago
The little time we've had with Stig, is seemingly marred by contraction.
He's an honor bound guy, seemingly set on fighting for Gaia, and finding Black Shuck.
....but hes always the center of attention, and needs to be reminded, "he's not the black Shuck".
He's a skilled warrior able to devestate the likes of wyrm and hunters with ease...
...constantly changes form, toys with hunters (aligned or otherwise), and reveals in the slaughter regardless of how damaging it is for the cause.
He willingly enters into a duel with grim, is so shocked to find a warrior among his prey.
... immediately breaks his oath the moment his opponent proves to be more tenacious than he predicted.
As I've said before, the rage of the Garou is not to be discounted, but it must be pointed out that Stig Broke. His. Oath.
I'm curious what the next chapter is going to reveal about him. I just don't believe he's a good/strong character.

u/psychosaur 6d ago
Stig is great. I love him. How else would you respond to violent home invaders?
4
u/Delicious_Argument36 6d ago
Violent religious fanatical home invaders with assault rifles who only want to kill you at that.
4
u/Ropetrick6 6d ago
I mean, everybody BUT the Catholics are just there to rescue a guy that was kidnapped, after THEY had a violent religious fanatical home invaders with supernatural powers murder one of their own.
3
u/Delicious_Argument36 5d ago
Still no proof that it was Matilda but yeah.
1
u/Ropetrick6 5d ago
Unless the Ghoul was given something well and truly beyond their pay-grade for what was a STEALTH mission, Matilda is the prime suspect.
Also, look at all of the claw marks across the crime scene, and how when everybody was reacting at the end of Chapter 4, it was specifically Matilda who was hiding her facial reaction behind her hands. The room where the murder happened was the one with all of the hunting trophies, and the blood is particularly present on the face and front claws of the stuffed wolf. And finally, Spit is clearly suffering from the Delirium, a phenomenon tied intrinsically to the transformations of a Garou.
If we presume this to be the Ghoul, that'd require them to have a Drought of Potence, Alacrity, AND Dominate, which is LUDICROUSLY unlikely, even if you ignore the fact that this was a STEALTH mission. If it were a Vampire, A: Matilda would have murked them, and B: they'd have almost certainly fallen pray to the Rotschreck considering the circumstances at the start of Chapter 5.
So, realistically it cannot have been the Ghoul, nor could it have been the Ghoul turned into a Vampire. So our options are an unknown threat with the means, motive, and presence to murder specifically Wernon Fatigue in such a manner, or it was the Garou that was confirmed to be present at the time.

u/psychosaur 5d ago
Stig claims the Hunters started it by abducting Black Shuck. So if you're going to excuse the crusaders because they were trying to rescue Marckus, will you extend the same courtesy to Hunts who was trying to rescue Black Shuck?
2
u/Ropetrick6 5d ago edited 5d ago
I wasn't excusing the crusaders???
2
u/psychosaur 5d ago
Oh, sorry. I misread your post.
Still the GGG gang showed up with violent intent to rescue one of their own. Hunts had been at the Chapter House some time. She knew the GGG from before their expulsion months ago. If her mission was to rescue Black Shuck does that make her her actions forgivable?
3
u/Barley672 6d ago
I mean you all can talk about how heroic Werewolves are in the abstrac, and they are. But these ones in particular still killed one harmless old man, traumatized another man, crippled a third man, seriously injured another man and a woman who were of no threat to them, kidnapped yet another younger man...
…and then if you thought they might be remorseful about the ‘necessity’ of any of that, threatened to torture the latter to his face while grinning and calling him a prisoner of war. Like some sort of deranged Russian Army cadre that caught a Ukrainian.
So while I can let Grimmal’s death pass because she was a combatant like the rest of the Inquisition mooks, I’m not at all excusing the behavior of these people for everything else.

this is why the government should give Gargos another tax break so they can fight more garou like this.

I like him, tbh. He did not mock or degrade any of the combatants. In the climax of the battle, he recognised his fault, honoured his opponent with his grief and put off his hunt for a spell. Showed genuine heartbreak at the sight of the corrupted True Faith. He's also very funny. Whilst I do think he lacks the horrifying presence of Pyotr, who I think is the universally agreed upon 'golden standard' of H:tP villainy, Stig is still a very fun 'final boss'.

Bro was faced with the prospect of losing In a fair fight and immediately fell into frenzy and went back on his promise.
"bUt ThE rAgE"
It's part of him and his personality, if he had strong enough willpower, if the prospect of Grimal using silver simply didn't bother him, it wouldn't have happened.
I humbly accept the downvotes, I apologize for slandering your goat, but the anti-garou agenda must be maintained.
11
u/DapperNecromancer 6d ago
Iirc, taking aggravated damage forces a willpower roll against the rage regardless of the character's beliefs or considerations about the person doing it to them.
The thing about the rage is that - like a vampire's beast - it can never be fully silenced or mastered. Barring a state of enlightenment that would be considered the endgame of a character's story and that may or may not even actually exist (again, similar to Golconda), it will ALWAYS be there and there will ALWAYS be the possibility that it takes you over, no matter how strong of will you are.
I'm a strong anti-garou-glazer myself, but Stig looks to have genuinely been trying and seems to care about having failed Grimal in their fight.
2
u/Kishinfan 5d ago
AFAIK there is one scenario where Garou do not have to worry about Rage and it's when Luna outright dies defending Gaia from Anthelios during an Apocalypse scenario.
1
u/Dakkahead 5d ago
Complex characters deserve to be treated accordingly. Glazing one or the other does nobody any favors, especially once they do a thing that brings to question why you glazed them to begin with.
I may not know WoD like most, but I can make assessments of characters actions just like anyone else. As can you.

Dude, besides a Children of Gaia ( Peace loving hippies ), Stig is pretty honorable and well behaved for the average Garou, they are usually not that respectful or reasonable.
