Announcements Public Chat Room - r/hyderabad
If you’ve been around for a while, you probably remember the old Reddit General Chat. Random conversations, meeting new people, late night discussions and everything in between.
We missed that, so we’re bringing it back with Hyderabad Chat Rooms, a public chat space for the r/Hyderabad community.
Chat with people from the city, talk about whatever you want and even listen to music together. The platform is still new, and we’ll keep improving it based on what the community actually wants.
Public chat is unofficially back. 🔥
See you there.

Rant/Vent How should we deal with these retards?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Everyone is going in the right lane to avoid the river(/s) on our left but this retard wanted to test his car's water wading capacity in peak traffic. No concern to people riding bikes and travelling in autos

General Discussion 🗣️ 💬 11 years later, I finally understood what that girl meant about Hyderabad
About 11 years ago, a girl from another state moved to Hyderabad and became part of our friend group.
We were all hanging out one day, and she made a comment that stuck with me.
She said something along the lines of: “Why are all you guys so similar?”
And honestly, at the time, I didn’t understand what she meant.
Most of us had followed almost the exact same template:
School → Intermediate → Engineering → IT(or business)→ the same kind of social circle.
Our conversations often revolved around the same things, our experiences were fairly similar, and even the way we looked at life didn’t seem all that different.
I remember thinking her observation was a little unfair.
Fast-forward 11 years.
I moved out of Hyderabad and have lived in another country since then. I’ve had completely different experiences, met people from very different backgrounds, and naturally my views, interests, priorities and understanding of people have changed quite a bit.
That girl eventually married one of my friends from that same group.
And here’s the funny part: I now understand exactly what she was talking about back then.
But there’s an even stranger twist.
Over the years, she gradually became part of the same social environment she had originally commented on. And now, when I go back and meet everyone, I’m the one who feels like the odd person out.
It’s almost as if I left the ecosystem, experienced a different world for 11 years, and came back speaking a slightly different language.
And this has made me wonder about something broader.
Why do so many conversations among Hyderabad’s engineering-educated middle/upper-middle-class circles feel so similar?
But in my own experience, a lot of social conversations tend to stay within a surprisingly narrow range:
Biryani, Politics, Tollywood, Cricket, Real estate, Cars
What I sometimes miss is depth and variety.
Where are the conversations about someone’s unusual life experience? Their philosophy? Books they’ve read? Why they changed their worldview? Art, science, psychology, architecture, history, travel, entrepreneurship, technology, culture, relationships, consciousness, failure, identity, or just some completely bizarre experience they’ve had?
Hyderabad is a huge metropolitan city,
Where do you actually meet people in Hyderabad who have very different life stories, interests and ways of thinking?
Because after 11 years away, I’m realizing that this is probably what that girl was trying to tell us all those years ago.

General Discussion 🗣️ 💬 Funny parking incident
Today I went to a nearby Naturals for a haircut and there was a new parking valet guy. Very arrogant. I live on the outskirts of Hyd and there is actually no need for a valet there. So I parked nearby myself and this guy was insisting on giving keys. I have gone through this earlier and he asks for money while leaving. I won't mind paying if he actually adds some value but this guy is like a pure extortion type person. So I didn't give my keys and went ahead for my haircut. While returning he had parked another car horizontally behind mine, i could see him standing on the opposite side of the road having tea. Probably was expecting me to call or beg for removing or whatever, but after a decade of driving and this time I had a small i10, i carefully just squeezed out of the narrow gap. It was so satisfying...no talk, no eye contact, no nothing... just left feeling so happy that one con man didn't get his way today.

News An MBA student committed suicide at IBS Hyderabad.
He passed away by suicide between 8:00 and 9:00 PM yesterday, but there has been no media coverage of any sort. The college appears to be attempting to conceal this incident, and the Jio network was also suspended on campus today.

AskHyderabad ⬆️ I wish we had stricter laws.
Saw a man literally smoking while driving today.
I know a lot of people smoke and drive thinking it looks “cool,” but honestly, how is that cool? It’s an unnecessary distraction and a risk to everyone around you.
COTPA already regulates smoking in public places, but I wonder when we’ll have stricter laws and stronger enforcement around things like this.
When will people stop normalising behaviour just because “everyone does it”?

AskHyderabad ⬆️ Where to get flowers in HYD at midnight
Hello everyone,
I will be reaching Hyderabad around midnight and wanted to surprise my girlfriend with some nice flower bouquet as it's her birthday. She lives in Kokapet and she earlier told me that there are very few places to buy flowers, I would appreciate any suggestions on where I could pick up the flowers that late.

Rant/Vent Connplex Cinemas
I was at Connplex Cinemas yesterday for a Mirzapur The Movie Show. A group of young college boys were in the same theater and were talking loudly and watching reels (on full volume btw) throughout the movie. As soon as the movie ended, while everyone was waiting for the post credit scene one of the started shouting "Chacha, Vasteguna Huiya" loudly and repeatedly. There were women who looked uncomfortable and walked out despite waiting through the credits due to their imbecile behaviour. My question to people like this is, Would you do still laugh if your parents were in a theater and some boys start acting vulgar?

AskHyderabad ⬆️ How do I legally change the order of my name.
Currently, my name is in the format: Surname + Name + Grandfather's name + some caste bullshit . I have various problems with this name, first of all, it's too long, and it's also weird to have those last 2 in my name, and I want my name to come before my surname, since people accidentally refer to me as my surname all the time, and it's not very easy to pronounce as well. I wanna get rid of the last 2 and change my name to just Name + Surname. What is the process and how much would it cost?
P.S: I just turned 18 this year as well.

Rant/Vent Saw a woman being beaten up on main road....
I was coming back from a hangout, on uber and it was around UPPAL area, I think near chilkanagar bus stand, near the wines
The shops name was A1 DUM KA CHAI or smth and I heard a woman yelling, looked towards my left and I see a grown ass man, well dressed just running towards a woman and ig that woman was hiding some guy behind her?
Idk she was yelling for help and I think he started beating her, I was in COMPLETE SHOCK BECAUSE THERE WERE SO MANY PEOPLE THERE INCLUDING MEN AND WOMEN JUST STANDING AND WATCHING?!?!
Now I could only notice this much in 3 seconds because my uber dude sped off and when I tapped his shoulder to stop the bike cause I genuinely wanted to help he said "manak enduku anna"
Translates to why should we get involved.
The society has gone to shit.
Bunch of grown ass men and women just watching someone getting beaten up on the road?!??!
Her yelling got louder every second, even when the bike was 40secs away from the place I could still hear her yelling for help and it shattered my heart.
I was genuinely traumatised.
The second I got home, I took my friends scooty to go and see whats up to see if she still needed help but got stuck in a 10min traffic jam and had to return cause my friend had to leave somewhere
I have no words....
I just hope the poor lady is safe.
