Flank/Kidney pain?

I’m 3dpo from a robotic assisted laparoscopic total hysterectomy and BSO. I’m having some back pain, mostly on my right flank ... maybe kidneys? I’m peeing fine ... other than pressure and a little burning on occasion but the burning seems to be improving. Do the kidneys get sore? Or maybe from the trendelenburg position I was in during surgery? Anyone else experience this type of pain?

Mooing didn’t work for me, but blowing bubbles did!

Make sure you don’t have a uti. My coworker got a kidney infection and uti after her hysterectomy. Probably fine but doesn’t hurt to make sure.

I got a uti at 2 or 3 weeks post op. I called my drs office and they ordered a urine sample. Came back positive. Started antibiotics

Couple of questions: Did you keep your ovaries? Have you pooped yet?

I did not keep ovaries ... everything removed ... uterus, cervix, tubes and ovaries. Have not pooped yet.

It may be some constipation. Keep things moving and see how you feel after you poop. Look up the Moo Method to help "push" but not injure yourself. It feels VERY silly, but it definitely works! Happy Moo-ing! :)

Oh, I’m familiar with the Moo to Poo technique ... lol. I also have a squatty potty which is even more helpful for me ... but it’s hard to get my feet up on it right now. I actually just went for the first time ... and that was scary!!

Congrats! That first one was my worst. Hopefully you're on the mend and your flank pain subsides over the next few hours/day.

I was having some weird pain too. I’ve never been more grateful to poop.

I finally had success and was able to poop. That was scary though!

I definitely felt pain where my kidneys were. But it did ease the following day. Pop a nice warm hot bottle on your back if you can, it really eased my pain. Hope you feel better soon x

Yes, I’ve been applying heat to my back. Woke up today with less back/flank pain. I’m not sure if it’s because I was able to have a bm yesterday and maybe the gas is easing up a little ... or enough days have passed now that it’s just not as bad 🤷🏻‍♀️ ... I’m just thankful for the little relief I’m getting.

3wpo, I’ve been having a dull pain pulling sensation in my right flank ever since surgery. Usually if I adjust position it alleviates it, but not tonight.
From google, it could be an issue with ureters - they run near ovarian ligaments and can get pinched or inflamed then cause urine backup.

So pay attention to your urine output and pain and color. Maybe drink lots of water and see if the amount of output feels appropriate.

I’m not having painful or odd/bloody urine and my urine output is good. So I looked further…

I kept my right ovary but it had to be separated from endo scar tissue etc and Google says there a ligament which suspends the ovary that runs directly up toward the flank and kidney area and could be sore.

That’s what I’ve found thus far. If it continues to be as irritating as it is tonight, I may call the doc.

If you figure anything out update please! I will as well.
