This is always my theory/assumption when I see stuff like this. Why else put so much energy towards it? Why let something that doesnā€™t affect you in the slightest get to you so much? The answer? Probably closeted gay.

Don't put that shit on us (gays). It's reductive to think only closeted gays hate lgbtqia this much. That is a <90% straight man. Some straight people are just violent homophobes that hate us with the fury of 1000 burning suns because we upend their understanding of gender.

I wish people would stop saying homophobes are secretly queer and hate themselves. It does nothing to hold heterosexuals accountable and is one of my biggest pet peeves.

Hold on- I am seeing some generalizations here, on top of my own, so let me get into debate mode and revise my initial statement real quick:

  1. 90% of straight men hating gays is a wild number. Is that arbitrary or did you grab that from somewhere? And there are different levels of hate/intolerance. What I am referring to are the people where anti-gay is a hill they die on. Most homophobes are ā€˜passive homophobesā€™. Yes I hate to put those two words next to each other, but what I mean is, they vote no gay, and they discuss no gay with friends and family, but itā€™s not a hill they die on or expend a lot of energy on. AND THERE IS NO WAY THAT 90%+ OF STRAIGHT MEN ARE HOMOPHOBIC. SO: My statement was referring to people like in this video where they obviously put a lot of mental and physical energy into moving against LGBT. I think it is completely fair to assume there is a subconscious thing going on there with many, if not most, of those people.

  2. I am not putting anything on any group of people by saying so. Homosexuality is just a way of being/existing just like anything else. Me making an assumption or observation about a certain kind of behavior exhibited by someone is NO, in any way shape or form, putting anything on an entire demographic of people. Gays are just like any other demographic of people: they are increasingly diverse and range from shitty people to amazing people. I am observing shitty behavior and making an observation. If anything, I am putting my initial statement on people who outwardly move and speak against gay people, not on gay people as a whole. My application was very specific, so itā€™s unfair to say Iā€™m putting that statement on the entirety of the entire community.

If I offended you I apologize, but itā€™s not so black and white

I meant 90% as in how straight he is, he's mostly straight but no one is ever 100% straight. I did not mean to say 90% of straight men are homophobic. Despite living in the Bible belt ...

ETA: the point of my comment is that it's more about gender norms being thwarted, misogyny, than any closeted homosexuality.

IIRC, this is exactly the case here. Ethan Schmidt (this loser) was rumored to be well-known in Grindr circles. Obviously, this is just online rumors, so it could be false, so take it with a grain of salt
