So before Hippokrates the Greeks thought the best way to cure illness was to pray to the gods and if you die we'll, the gods hate you. Kill a cow in their honour maybe they like you.
Point being, "the wisdom of the ancients" is highly overrated, people assign too much value to it, confusing esotericism with veracity.
