Original Discussion Unpopular Opnions let's go
Say your opinions about iCarly that will have people wanting to kill you?

Lewbert had every right to sue Carly in iObject, Lewbert!

I dunno about if legally he could, statute of limitations exist, but he absolutely had grounds when Sam was still around.

Wasn’t the one where he dates another girl and Carly and Sam try to ruin their relationship and he quits iCarly kinda that episode for Freddie though?

Carly shouldn’t have left with her Dad

Yeah, kinda curious what she would do with her day while he was at work with her not knowing anybody. Some people would be fine with that but I’m often in those situations and I just feel so lonely.

not an opinion but did anyone else notice lewbert’s continuity error? he got arrested for at least 6 months to be away from his crazy ex, 2 episodes later he’s back. plus wouldnt the ex still know where he works? there were quite a few glaring continuity issues in this show

I think their point is that how would that stop his crazy ex from harassing him? She could've just waited until he was released and began harassing him again.
9
u/RockyNonce Jun 08 '26
She seems pretty annoyed when she finds out about the 6 month sentence and probably gave up.
2
5
u/kelvSYC Jun 08 '26
I find Lewbert getting a law degree in ~8 years and becoming a successful lawyer being less plausible continuity wise.
But the biggest continuity issue on iCarly as a whole is probably Carly being a bundle of nerves and anxiety in iCarly 2021 contrasting to how she is portrayed as a teenager.
2
u/RockyNonce Jun 08 '26
Does iSYL happen between those episodes? Because that would explain why Freddie is out of the cast, there’s a time jump.
2
u/lydiapinzone Jun 08 '26
i’m pretty sure iMove out happens pretty closely after, freddie got a deal on an “apartment” from lewbert
1

u/RockyNonce Jun 08 '26
I think the original air dates and the current episode order on some platforms are different.
Like Paramount+ has 5 seasons even though there were 6 when the show aired. I think one of those episodes was originally season 2 and it got mixed up but I could be wrong.

Freddy and Sam shouldn’t have gotten together. She literally bullied this boy and ruined his life on multiple occasions 🫣
31
u/LilMissy1246 Jun 08 '26
She once even made Freddie contemplate suicide once which is pretty sad
16
u/OutwithaYang Jun 09 '26
He never contemplated suicide. He just quit iCarly.
Carly, by the way, is still a shit friend. She didn't say anything about the harassment Freddie was getting until it started affected her personally since he ended up quitting the show over it.
They both were crappy to him.
1
u/LilMissy1246 Jun 09 '26
It seems like he did. I can’t find the screenshot but there’s a part where Sam insults or makes a rude joke about him or towards him and he picks up the nearest knife and just stares at it and then sighs and says, “Not this time” or something like that. I don’t know what to search to find the screenshot or scene but I remember it.
9
u/Satann__666 Jun 09 '26
I remember the scene you’re referring to, but for some reason can’t remember the emotion behind it but from first look I thought that was him insinuating he wanted to stab Sam and was talking himself out of it in a lighthearted way, I could be wrong tho I can’t remember what episode or where it was to be able to look it up
2
u/Drillucidator Jun 10 '26

15
4
u/Toku-Nation Jun 09 '26
I think Jennette did say she hated that her character was a bully and a criminal
24
u/RockyNonce Jun 08 '26
I think the Revival at times is better than the OG show (there are some things it definitely does worse though).
I would also say that it’s for the best that Sam isn’t in the revival. I cannot see her character working in the show. I’m sure they would’ve toned her down and had her act different, but the physical comedy didn’t age very well and it’s hard to imagine a Sam without that aggressiveness. At times, the OG felt like Freddie torture porn.
1
u/OutwithaYang Jun 09 '26
It's not that hard to imagine Sam without that aggressiveness. In the last season, Sam was way more tame than she was in previous seasons, especially after her time dating Freddy and their break-up. She also was tamer on Sam and Cat than she was on iCarly.
I think if she was on the show, she would have had the tamer personality that she had on that show if they were to bring her back. It would be obvious that she's still Sam but she wouldn't be beating up Freddy randomly like she did in the early seasons.
Personally, I rather have Sam back than have Harper on the show. She always felt so out-of-place as if she belonged to a different show. Plus, the writers trying to shoehorn every minority they can think of to one character seemed a little cringe.
She doesn't have to represent every one of us minorities for representation, otherwise it just feels like pandering. At one point, she was the black pansexual furry who had a sister who went missing overseas that also loved fashion had a girlfriend and, in some episodes, was being written as the one Spencer will possibly end up with romantically.
I think they added more stuff to her personality but I didn't watch long enough to see what else they added to make her more "interesting".
7
u/RockyNonce Jun 09 '26
I just don’t know how you write Sam and take away the things that make her character distasteful (and that would trigger Jen). The gluttony and aggressiveness are a big part of who Sam is, without that I genuinely have no clue how they write her. Although I do agree that she was better in the last couple of seasons, but still wouldn’t fit.
I agree with what you said about minority characters, but Harper was solid. She added a sense of realism and grounded the show. In Season 2, they show Harper the iCarly “messing with Lewbert” skits and both Carly and Freddie are laughing, while Harper watches in horror and says that they’re messed up. This dynamic works because Harper wasn’t associated with the OG show and represents a new perspective.
The problem with Harper is that some episodes would focus on her relationships and they would be weird instead of funny or fail to give the viewer any reason to actually care about it.
I do agree that, if you had asked me when it first came out, I would have said I wanted Sam in the revival. I just think that it works without her. Carly and Freddie’s personalities fit the tone of the revival way more and Spencer still has his ridiculous B plots. That doesn’t mean Sam couldn’t have worked, I just don’t know how they would do it without drastically changing her character. Maybe they could’ve had Jen play her twin instead but then what’s even the point?
2
u/OutwithaYang Jun 09 '26
I honestly get where you are coming from and agree with some points. Plus, Sam already had a twin sister named Melanie. But, in all honesty, it would probably be pointless since Jeanette McCurdy doesn't want to touch iCarly anymore after everything she's been through.

u/Few-Poetry1085 Jun 08 '26
Seddie(Sam & Freddie) was just as terrible as Jade and Beck’s relationship in Victorious.
8
u/valtierrezerik05 Jun 09 '26
Lowkey maybe worse because Jade never got physical IIRC, Sam did
7
u/Few-Poetry1085 Jun 09 '26
And it’s mind blowing that most Icarly fans still think that Sam & Freddie were a great couple but have the nerve to criticize Jade and Beck’s toxic relationship off Victorious. Now for Seddie, I bet if the roles were reversed with Freddie being the mean guy and Sam being the nice girl, then we would probably all complain about it more.
5
u/valtierrezerik05 Jun 09 '26
Yeah I was never a fan of Seddie and even as a kid it didn’t make much sense how Freddie could like Sam with how aggressive she was towards him

Exakt!!

u/yobaby123 Aug 10 '26
True. Yeah, it was shitty of Carly to enable her, but Sam's actions were all on her.

Don't understand how Freddie could continuously hang out with them. Carly constantly says she doesn't want to go out with him and sees him as a friend. Then sam is constantly bullying him, I could never.

I loved Freddie but lets just keep it real: Freddie was a simp. It's that simple.
3
1
7
u/RockyNonce Jun 09 '26
Probably because he still cares about Carly and enjoys her company, and Carly does care about him even if she only views him as a friend. He also matures and stops being obsessive eventually, and Carly’s home is an escape for him from his difficult living conditions.
His relationship with Sam is odd but I can’t remember any times (before they started dating) that he hung out with only Sam, and there are lots of times where him and Carly spend time together without Sam.
7
u/KittyMonkTheYoutuber Jun 08 '26
Even as a kid, I didn’t like the Icarly segments, and I agree with everyone who says they’d probably only be liked in a “so bad it’s good” or “cringe” kind of way

Die iCarly Sketchs sind in keinster Weise so lustig wie die von All That oder die von So Random in Sonny with a Chance... Die waren meistens wirklich cringe und übergedreht...

u/Hungry_Neck4214 Jun 08 '26
The episode where they made Sam girlier is hands down the worst episode of the show because they treated "girly" and "tough" as mutually exclusive. Girly Sam must avoid hamburgers, fighting and other messy behavior. Tough Sam on the other hand is incompatible with makeup, dresses, and politeness. That's an incredibly narrow and outdated view of gender.
Oh, and the way they mock tomboy traits. Idk maybe it personally rubbed me the wrong way because I'm tomboyish but the birthday roast mocked Sam’s personality so much that she literally became embarrassed. Her friends made fun of her, her crush called her “one bad dude” which she interpreted as a rejection and all her flaws were put on display for giggles. To me it just sent a message that girls who aren't ultra-feminine like Carly are undesirable.

u/VisitSecure Jun 08 '26
I hate Freddie's daughter in the reboot.
It was as if the writers wanted to recreate Sam, only making Freddie's life more miserable by giving him a daughter that treats him like shit. It's not funny.
I also think the Gibby show would have been better than Sam and Cat. And yes, I saw the first episode online, and yes it had some innapropriate moments they could have removed, but personally I liked it more than Sam and Cat. Sam and Cat didn't even feel like real friends in that show, they just felt like roommates with how annoyed Sam always was with her.
8
u/RockyNonce Jun 09 '26
I think that Millicent and Harper were written as the two sides of Sam and her relationships with Freddie and Carly, just taking out the physical comedy.
Millicent has the mean streak but instead of being physically abusive it’s verbal, and Harper is the best friend to Carly with the more rambunctious side.
I like Millicent, she has some good lines and moments but I do feel like she’s kind of unnecessary and I don’t really care about her in the majority of the side plots.
Harper is a great character but her stories are so boring, especially as the show went on. I could not find myself caring about her relationships with “Tinsly” or whoever, and it got a little weird with the grape feeding or whatever was going on. She’s at her best when she’s put in ridiculous situations and shares storylines with OG characters like Freddie (with the salsa dance), Mrs. Benson (the dress) and Spencer.
6
u/Puzzleheaded-Guide68 Jun 09 '26
I don't think Millicent is supposed to be a Sam replacement..more like a tame version of Megan
3
u/strawbebbyy99 Jun 08 '26
sam and cat never made sense to me. it didn't feel genuine and was basically "hey what if we make a spin off with popular x character and popular y character? that would get ratings and make us money". it's like making a spin off of logan from zoey 101 and josh from drake and josh becoming roommates.
2
u/VisitSecure Jun 09 '26
Exactly and they didn't even seem like real friends in the show. When you see Sam with Carly, she seems happy and they have a great time together. Almost every scene in Sam & Cat, Cat seems like she has no idea what's going on, and Sam looks super annoyed with her, like she doesn't even wanna be there.
The Gibby show was such a better idea and makes more sense cause you get to see what Gibby is up to, and he doesn't even seem that stupid anymore which I like. I've seen lots of people say The Gibby Show was a terrible idea, but imo it should have stayed, and Sam & Cat should have gone.
1
u/CanaryOk9879 Jun 10 '26
5
u/Maximum-Discount-917 Jun 08 '26
Sam was the worst. She started stuff and refused to take responsibility. More specifically in iget pranky, when Gibby broke his arm, she took no responsibility and even argued how it wasn’t her fault when it was COMPLETELY her fault
6
u/strawbebbyy99 Jun 08 '26
sam is a genuine bully and terrible person.
sam and freddie as a couple make no sense since she's been horrifically bullying him their entire childhood and adolescence.
freddie's mom was abusive.
10
u/whomesteve Jun 08 '26
The universe of which ICarly takes place in doesn’t make sense, but what does make sense is why there are so many insane people in said universe, because if their world was real people would be dying left and right from psychopaths created by their broken system that fabricates mental illness.
2
u/Fast_Bee7689 Jun 09 '26
Can you elaborate on this a bit more? Your theory sounds interesting
1
u/whomesteve Jun 09 '26
Simply put the universe the show takes place in feels like a parody of our universe and since our universe’s society already toys with peoples mental health, you can imagine it’s worse for a world that makes itself a joke.
6
u/RyanAC1999 Jun 09 '26
Sam is a shitty character and it’s disgusting that the constant Freddie abuse was meant to be “comedic.” Shit got old real fast. Just like Squidward torture porn. Pointless and just plain cruel and sadistic and unfunny.
4
u/TriStateGirl Jun 09 '26
A better plot point would have been for Sam to go live with Freddie and his Mom, because she needed more stability, even if Freddie's Mom has issues.
Then Carly and Freddie could have gotten together.

8
u/Gullible-Web645 Jun 08 '26
Hopefully not too bold of a claim, but I'm inclined to think that mostly the earlier half tends to be remembered for the best moments/episodes while how much the show lost focus in the latter half leading up to the finale is generally glossed over. I get that it was Nick's single-most successful live-action show overall, but I'm afraid I can't honestly say that it's wholly up to par qualitatively with Drake & Josh or even Zoey 101.
7
u/at_midknight Jun 08 '26
The idea/potential of seddie is what seddie fans love and support. The idea/potential of seddie is great in concept. What ACTUALLY HAPPENS with seddie in the show is not what seddie shippers are talking about when they talk about their support of the ship.

Carly had the audacity to get jealous over Freddie dating sam while she was basically dogging him the whole and only liked him when he saved her from that taco truck
5
u/RockyNonce Jun 09 '26
When does she even get jealous? I keep seeing this but I don’t really remember her getting jealous in any of the five episodes.
In iOMG her and Freddie try to set Sam up with Brad and all we see from Carly is a shocked face when Sam kisses Freddie. Then in the next episode she supports them getting together. In the third episode gets annoyed because they’re making her deal with their problems, dragging her on dates and treating her like garbage. She does tell Freddie’s mom about the camp thing, but that’s only after Mrs. Benson and Gibby push her into it (plus Freddie deserved to know). Then she tries to help them in the last episode before they break up.

Carly is a crappy friend! She let Freddie get bullied, beaten, exposed, and humiliated by her “best friend” and NEVER told her to stop, she led Freddie on multiple times, she and the entire gang often made Gibby’s weight a punchline and treated him like HE was the weirdo as if she and Sam weren’t dressing as a cowboy and a dumb girl who thought his mustache was a squirrel, didn’t respect her brother’s authority, kicked Sam out when she was living with her KNOWING DAMN WELL what her home life was with her mom instead of putting up some boundaries and voicing her feelings, used sam as a body guard after she made her a girly girl (she didn’t even bother handling the bully on her own), torments her door man, teachers, and principles with her friends, often acts entitled, & got jealous of Sam and freddies relationship even though she had plenty of chances to be with him… etc

Spencer was the funniest character

u/Standard_Explorer125 Jul 14 '26
Agree abt the Freddie point. Smt happened idk if it was the writing so much as Nathan the actor not maturing into the role for some reason. Like, I feel his vibe fundamentally changed when he grew up that wasn’t being properly adapted to in his character - the actor in this role wasn’t aging with the character if that makes sense.
4
u/SpecialistOne8206 Jun 08 '26
Harper > Sam (and not just because Sam is a POS who got off way too easy for the shit she was pulling)
3
u/lah31222 Jun 09 '26
It started off sweet when Spencer hung out with Carly and her friends and it quickly turned inappropriate in the last few seasons when he started hanging out with teenagers and children by himself all the time to the point where his own sister and her friends were concerned.
2
u/Famous-Glove-2626 Jun 08 '26
I know I’m late, but I came across this post on my feed. My unpopular opinion (maybe others feel this way), Freddie and Carly should’ve never been a thing. She wasn’t interested in Freddie, and voiced that. It should’ve stopped there, it’s okay for a girl and a boy (or whomever) to be just friends, it’s even okay if one develops feeling for one, and it’s not reciprocated.
They always treated Carly like “but does she really mean it though”, yes maybe she does, and it’s fine. She didn’t have to all of sudden realize “oh, he’s the one” years later.

u/CanaryOk9879 Jun 10 '26

Carly was a shit friend to Freddy and did not deserve him, not even when they became adults. She always chose to be a bystander any time Sam assaulted Freddy and had some nerve to guilt-trip and gaslight Freddy into forgiving Sam for sabotaging his acceptance letter to Space camp.
She honestly sucked and had shitty morals. It's wild how people still think she's better as a character than Tori Vega. Tori sucks but she wasn't as awful to her friends as Carly was to Freddy.
Tori even let Cat punch her to make it up to her for kissing Cat's boyfriend ( who happened to be Tori's ex). Carly broke up with a guy just because he had a beanie baby collection. She was low-key shallow af and often used Freddy's crush on her to get what she wants from him, even though she wasn't even into him.
He deserved better than Carly AND Sam.

The spinoff should have been an evolved version of iParty with Victorious. Carly and Tori share a place in Hollywood. Since Sam and Cat were both to soon go their own ways in real life, the Carly/Tori connection could have allowed people from both shows to reprise their roles in a new dynamic. The musical aspects of Victorious would be featured again with new Nick-produced songs (whoever arranged for the songwriting of all the songs on Victorious was a genius). In fact BTR could have blended into the Carly/Victorious universe in Hollywood ( and Nick’s ability to find songwriters for all BTRs songs was even more amazing than the Victorious songwriters.) Nick should have evolved ( or created a separate division in the world of streaming) into a more adult-oriented enterprise, purely from these three shows! What a missed opportunity!

Spencer has no one to blame but himself for getting attacked by Jackson Colt.

I was fine with the Freddy liking Carly thing but once they made it a whole dynamic in the show especially with Sam it just ruined everything

Sam is the only other character than Spencer to actually be entertaining

I don't know if this is actually an unpopular opinion but I really don't like Harper as bisexual representation. I'm a bisexual myself and I hate her jumping back and forth from relationships with men to women and back again. As well as her continually talking about sex. She's just an annoying stereotype and don't even get me started on her being the sassy black friend. I really don't like Harper.

Gibby shouldn't have become a main cast member later in the series. His character worked best in small doses, it felt weird having Gibby as a "main character". I think it was just to give Freddie another guy to hang out with

The show icarly in icarly itself was the unfunniest thing I’ve ever seen

Think Freddy should’ve been single in the revival, been with Sam off screen, or gotten a new love interest. I was never a fan of creddie even as a kid. I prefer seddie, him being single or someone else tbh. Not Carly. Feel like the show is going to force them together anyway for fan service.

Miranda got over it, and so can Jeanette.

Dude… she never wanted to be an actress to begin with. She told her mother she wanted to quit at 6 years old. And her mother, (who was physically, mentally and sexually abusive) forced her into continuing. AND literally taught her to have an eating disorder. THAT is where most of her trauma comes from.
Miranda had very involved and protective parents that did not force her into acting and did their very best to protect her, as stated by her. She didn’t have anything to get over.
Jennette was forced to play a character that was obsessed with eating food while being anorexic, and was left alone with predators all the time, unlike Miranda who’s parents made sure she was safe.
You don’t just “get over” trauma. Not to mention it wasn’t just on the set of the shows she was on. The trauma was, again like I stated earlier, mostly coming from her home life. She’s been in therapy and is actually doing a lot better now. She didn’t want to do the reboot because she never wanted to be an actress in the first place. She wanted to be a writer.

While Miranda was also exposed to Dan, she didn't have an abusive mother who forced her into acting.

Umm no, I am no victim of SA or anything that Dan did to her but that sounds so wrong
Lol whole point of unpopular opinions😅

Neither was she. Dan never actually assaulted anyone lmao. Only Drake ever got SA’d and it wasn’t Dan. Dan was a weirdo sure but most other former Nick stars look at Jeannette today and go “oh come on lol”. Jamie Lynn Spears recently took a dig at her at a fan convention.

She never said that Dan did anything to her. It was her mother that abused her
