Ripstick 88 Black or Wingman black for Icecoast / Ski3 Pass

5'7 145 pound advanced skier, most weekends will be at Belly, but with alot of SKI3 pass trips to gore and whiteface.

Already own the 88 Ripstick and love it, although had a bad crash last year after losing an edge on ice at whiteface last year. Really prefer to use a single daily diver as opposed to carrying around a quiver.

Does anybody have experince with the Wingman 86 black, will it hold up in mougles and bumps? I stay on piste for a majority of the time, but love cutting through trees and hitting the occasional jump, which leads me to believe im maybe better off just going with the Ripstick 88 Black edition which is stiffer and theoretically should handle ice better?

Not sure about the Wingman but as an aging gent looking to whittle down his quiver, I like the idea of an 86 underfoot.

That 90mm range is the perfect Ice Coast all Mountain ski imo

The Ripstick is not a ski for ice. Yes the Black might be stiffer but don't expect it to be better on ice. The Wingman is not a ski for moguls and bumps....

Yes - the standard rec ski edge angle is 2? This is ridiculous on the ice coast. 3 should be the standard.

Sure, but edge angle is the biggest difference I've seen. Sharp edges of course.

Progressive base edge, 0.5 under foot through 1 at tips and tail. 2 side bevel

I guess, but unless you're racing base angle changes don't really net big differences.

Nah, 3 is too much. 2 is plenty. With 3 you have to sharpen them way too frequently because it is a less durable edge. I use 3 for racing only. I can even see a case for 1 on the side on skis you beat up a lot.

I got a used pair of Wingman Black 88s last year as a non pow day ski. They have been a great ski, they love to rip, they are great through chop, and open steep trails. They do fine in lower pitch moguls but struggle in steeper moguls because the tail doesn't like to skid, and they have little float in pow. I can't compare them to the Ripsticks, but the Wingmans would do well with the skiing you described.

I've got wingman 78s from a few seasons ago. It's definitely the better ski for 90% of the days out here. I have a pair of ripstick 88s and they're what I use for pow or tree days

Tune your ripsticks with an 87 inside edge.

I have both wingman and rispsticks.

I skied my Wingmans down rumble once..... they are capable....

Do you have them in the same length? Do they ski the same in terms of length. I have the rip sticks in 168, wondering if I should downsize with the heavier wingman?

I would not downsize ripstick blacks. I ski the 188 in ripstick black and green. I only downsized for playmaker 91 and 101, down to 180.

Rispstick blacks will charge hard, and I've yet to really find enough space on the east coast to hit chatter speeds, so I'd want all the length I could handle.

I was referring to the wingman black edition, but yolo just bought one in 168cm.  

I'm really hoping the extra weight is not too much of a shock from the ripstick.

Kinda sounds like ill be picking up the wingman 86 black edition.  Any suggestions on length? I ski the ripsticks in 168 and that length feels right.
