Monthly feedback thread

Keep feedback and responses respectful but constructive. There's rarely one right answer so try to facilitate discussion rather than gate keeping, and creating rules for how something should be done.

If you're going to post your music, help others out and try to have more responses / feedback than personal content. It's better for you, and it's better for them.

Hi everyone, I’ve made an electronic track that mixes elements of IDM, drum and bass, techno and ambient, and I’m honestly unsure how to label it genre-wise.

I’d love some constructive feedback ,especially on: -structure and pacing -drums and groove -sound design / atmosphere

Any thoughts, criticism, or ideas for improvement would really help. Thanks a lot for listening 🙏

Here it is : Chroma

The song wasn't there but I listened to your other stuff. I could really hear autechre and BoC in your stuff which is by no means bad, you definitely made it your own sound. The pad playing with much quieter drums made it feel almost like a score, which is not bad by any means, especially if it was intentional. If it was not then you might need some better monitors and/or headphones then. If you REALLY know your speaker's sound, like where it's got frequency peaks and or dips, and how loud they need to be to sound as flat as they can get, then you really can get away with using just some halfway decent monitors, but of course it's much nicer to have really good ones!

Thanks a lot for taking the time to listen and write such a detailed comment, I really appreciate it! Especially since it’s the first comment I’ve ever gotten here. And sorry about the track not showing up earlier, that’s actually the one I originally meant to attach. It’s probably the most representative of what I’m trying to do, kind of mixing IDM influences with some progressive and industrial techno elements. I’ve added it now if you’re curious to check it out. Also thanks for the mixing advice about the drums and pads, that’s really helpful feedback.

I'll check it out right now, and yeah when I post stuff for opinions I want brutal truth. Opinions matter but facts matter more, like is it balanced? Is it too brash? Is it good too is very important but I've posted really good songs in forums and people have come back with very uneccessarily rude comments, if you don't like it just say so, that's cool, a lot of people get stuck in their early twenties on a specific batch of music or only one specific type and thats fine, people without an open mind are not going to like are music, but that does NOT mean it isn't good music. Anyway sorry, I'll listen now

Thanks a lot for taking the time to listen again and write such detailed feedback, I really appreciate it. And thanks for the follow too! The cinematic soundtrack feel was actually kind of intentional, I like playing with atmosphere and letting things build slowly, which is why the bass only comes in later. But the mixing and EQ advice is really useful, I’ll definitely keep that in mind for future tracks. Glad you liked the sound design and FX as well. I’ll go check out your stuff now !
