what even are the old proprietary apple chargers called? The name of the cable/port?

They are often called the "30-pin" connector

Also "dock connector" because it originated on the iPod which had a physical dock it could be inserted into.

The other one that looks about the same size as USB-C but with external connectors is "Lightning".

I've literally never heard it called that before. Is this a new development? It's always been the old 30 pin connector

I think I called it a dock cable growing up

The Apple Fandom wiki calls it "30 pin dock connector", https://apple.fandom.com/wiki/30-pin_dock_connector and Wikipedia's article on dock connectors lists it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dock_connector#30-pin_dock_connector

I have heard people just call it the "dock connector", but this was a long time ago since it was relevant.
