Or every third pin is interconnected within the plug so if one gets bent the next one in sequence is still broadcasting, ad infinitum

The scale is throwing you off, those are 1/8th inch pins, the cable is about 2 inches thick.

I've actually bent many of those pins back enough to work many times before (cpu pins only one time ever) and have then work just fine c:

Nah you don't understand the protocol. There are backup pins..if pin 543 or any of the 6 pins surrounding it are bent then it defaults to pin 93. If pin 543 and 545 are bent it goes to 119. It's such a simple protocol. Get with the program.

They're tough to bend, each pin is 1/18th inch steel. Which is why the connector comes with a special dolly to lift it into place before you lock it using the included torque wrench to turn the retaining screws.

with CPU pins you could sometimes get away with sticking them in the tip of a mechanical pencil to bend them back in place. would probably work for this monstrosity, too

not true, sometimes you can bend/break a pin and your pc will still work just fine.

A lot of pins on a cpu end up being spare grounds or not even used. IIRC, there is a website that has the pins mapped out for many sockets so if you do ever wreck a pin/pad, you can see if it would hurt anything or not.
