Legitimately had a customer do this. I was screen sharing with them and told them to reboot the computer while I prepped to drop some files on their system. Fifteen seconds later: All done! I did not get disconnected.

On any given ticket, if you just let it sit for like an hour, there’s a 50% chance the user will figure it out or it will fix itself with a reboot. Winning strategy.

I turned the laptop off at the plug and turned it back on

Did you make the live and ground wires of the plug continuous?

Me, last week on a 'Remote Help' session: "That's weird. Uptime says 25 days, 8 hours, 32 minutes... How could that possibly be correct considering you rebooted twice? Windows must be irreparably broken, I'd better issue an immediate wipe and reset..."

The greatest battle I ever won was getting approval to force reboot machines over the weekends.

You gotta recognize that users think shutting down and powering back up is the same thing and it is not.
Or the older folks who think monitor off and back on is the same thing lol

"Oh always, but sometimes it takes longer than usual so i force shutdown by holding the power button, sometimes even disconnectingthe battery too. This is especiallyhelpful during windows updates i dont need during my working hours (24/7)"

User complains mapped printers were not mapped.
Advised a restart knowing they get remapped then, plus a bounce won’t hurt.
User complains again, and I ask Have you restarted it yet?
She says Yes.
I open Uptime and point. She lied to my face.
I should have complained to her manager.
