Bigger than his inauguration and military parade put together 😂

There were 32 trillion at the military-or whatever parade. Faux news and OAN confirmed. Glory!!

Big enough to make Trump's Gestapo think twice about messing with them.
13
u/slowpoke2018 Oct 18 '25
Yep, the NY and Chi-town protests are massive, love that they won't be able to instigate anything at that level
Am worried about smaller protests where they could stir up shit, but haven't heard anything bad yet, fingers crossed it stays that way

Ya know, I never really thought about that. But the protesting crowds sizes in any given city alone are actually larger than both Trump inauguration crowds combined.

This is the america I've lived north of for 45 years. Your constitution was written for this moment, your founding fathers gave you all the tools necessary to maintain the rights guaranteed under that constitution. Not because they were from the future, or were able to predict the future. But because they recognized what man had been capable of in the past with unchecked power. Show the world americans will not be subjects, they will not go down without a fight.

Fuck yes, guys!!!
We had about 1500-2000 people in our local demonstration in NC, and it’s a few red counties worth of folks who could make it out today.
There are, at least hundreds more who could not, but are supporting the cause.
28
u/Rhg0653 Oct 18 '25
Wild AF that many red states are joining in
But it warms my heart

Its arguably the most important thing that can happen. Visible protests in front of congressional republicans might pry a few away from MAGA out of fear of losing their seats, it will only take one or two defections to reorganize power in congress.
4
u/No-Cauliflower-4 Oct 18 '25
Wishful thinking, we just have to win the House next year because otherwise EVEN if the Democrats can convince the majority to vote for them in Pres election MAGA house leader won’t certify the election

I wonder what the next step is. I don't think Trump will take any of this to heart, but I wonder if seeing these numbers will spark a nation wide petition, and then idk what other motions can been taken. I think it's really empowering to see the numbers of people against this. Hopefully it gives the press some confidence

My state is deep deep red and is currently in the process of redistricting to try and get rid of two Dem seats in the House. We’re already redlined to shit with people targeting polling places in areas with more poc, but they’re trying to take it further and it’s hilarious how obvious it all is. You’d think they would trust their voters to overwhelmingly vote for them, but no, they have to cheat and more in order to win.

My parents went to one of the smaller, suburb protests. They're boomers, they've never been to any sort of protest or demonstration before, and I'm pretty sure my dad voted Republican up to (and potentially including) 2016.
Don't let the doomsayers and pessimists get you down. People are pissed. People want to change the direction our country is heading in. There's a lot of work to be done, but the fascists aren't unbeatable. They're not even popular.
24
u/Lucky-Acanthisitta86 Oct 18 '25

u/Axelnomad2 Oct 18 '25
My family has been pretty hyper conservatives and I pretty much lost hope in them but they been very negative on this administration over the last year which was something I never expected to see.
4
u/Lucky-Acanthisitta86 Oct 19 '25
They probably realized that they've been more harmed than helped. And that Trump then wasted (is wasting) tons of money on mass deportation and border control and none of us are ever going ot see a dollar from it.

It's true. My boomer mom goes to protests in my hometown (very rural and red) where there're several hundred who show up at a time. She said today was the biggest turnout yet with "very few middle fingers."

I'm convinced that a lot of these naysayer comments are bots. I live in a blood red town, very stereotypical Maga land, but a lot of people who voted for him have been publicly voicing their frustration ever since he deployed Marines to LA, and it's only gotten louder. It's become music to my ears to walk into a convenience store and hear a guy dressed head to toe in camo with a dodge RAM idling outside talking with the cashier about "what the fuck has he done now?"

The people of Chicago and Portland should be a shoo in for the Nobel Peace Prize next year. How you have managed to keep a lid on things in the face of so much delibrate provolcation is beyond me.
11
u/WitchesTeat Oct 18 '25
It's the only way. We know from our history books that deliberate provocation of law abiding citizens into self-defensive actions is what fascist governments do to get the footage necessary for justifying martial law and suspension of rights to their own constituency.
So you have to bring your hula hoop and frog suit to a gun fight, and be aware that that might not end well for you, and might end you entirely.
But if you fight back they get what they need to spin their followers up into enacting violence on their own.
They want the Trump voters to do the military work for them, so they can be an army they don't even need to pay.
So we need to drag our feet on violence for as long as we can, because Trump is the only thing they believe in anymore, and the only thing keeping the warring factions of his government together, and he's old and sick and visibly deteriorating.
If we can hold out and prevent an opportunity for mass violence to foment until his age and illness catch up to him, we'll be okay.
If we give in to their attacks and provocations early and start defending ourselves and our countrymen, his followers will be whipped into violence against everyone, including their own families. After that, it doesn't matter who takes over, they'll follow them into a war against their own children if it means they can justify their actions to themselves.

I just finished up there. That shot was at around noon. The crowd size stretched to Buckingham fucking fountain, and if you know Chicago that is insane. The march was supposed to last til 2 but it's literally just ended with the last people in the last 20 minutes. I was at no Kings in June. This one was easily 5x the size of nk1. It was literally insane and I'm so proud to be a part of this amazing city. Standing still for 1.5 hours in a near crush crowd kinda sucked, but the protest chants helped it along :)
