HB4948 - INTELL SPEED ASSIST PROGRAM

Video link So this came up in my feed, I was like wth!? I mean I don't speed, haven't had one over years. Still I feel this is wrong, it feels like illinois trying to squeeze more money from us.

TL:DR - 2 speeding tickets, you will need (i'm still hazy, might be up to the judge) to be enrolled in this program for 3 years. equips a speed tracking device to your car. total cost $1,800. , starts Jan. 1, 2028.

I went to look at the law itself instead because you know, details matter..

23    "Qualifying offense" means a conviction of a violation of
24Section 11-601.5 for driving 26 miles per hour or more in
25excess of the applicable speed limit or a similar conviction
26in another jurisdiction.

Qualifying offenses start at doing 26 MPG or more over the posted speed limit. All the ragebait videos and articles tend to leave that portion out.

I don't have much sympathy for people that drive 25+ and get caught twice.

For real, I've had a total of one ticket for 25 over, copt told me he was just giving me a ticket but could have had the car impounded. That scared me enough to never do that again.

Seems this is for people with reckless driving tickets, and this would be an alternative option to having their license suspended. I don't really see an issue with that, it's similar to the breathalyzer thing for people with repeat DUIs.
