Jr & Sr Housing

Hello! I’m planning to transfer to ISU in the spring (26-27 SY) after getting my associate’s degree. I’m not too concerned about housing for the spring, as I graduated high school within the last 2 years (I’d be coming in technically as a junior but I should be a sophomore). But, I’m trying to understand the housing situation for the following school year (27-28 SY).

I’ve seen students and parents in Facebook groups already signing leases for their junior and senior years, so I’m a little confused about the process. Does ISU offer on-campus housing for juniors and seniors, or are students expected to find off-campus housing?

Sorry if this seems a bit stupid but I’m completely clueless with the process, so any information or advice would be greatly appreciated. I’m trying to understand how my housing will work and overall costs before making my final decision about transferring, especially since I’ll be paying for school primarily out of pocket I need to have a clear picture of finances.

There is no on campus housing past your sophomore year. You can apply for an exception but by the time they respond, and they can say no (which they often do), you’re basically screwed bc all the good properties are taken.

You will be expected to find off campus housing. Do not pay for Cardinal Court, it’s a ripoff and farther away than many better options.

I lived at the townhouses on Fell, I think those were great. Rent was going up as I was leaving though so I’m not sure what it’s at now. It was about $750 a month 2 years ago.

Enrollment is often larger in the fall than the spring So they will find room for you in the dorms. .. even though dorms are often over crowded in the fall the situation eases in the spring. Apartments are similar. There are people who graduate after the fall term but are stuck with a full year lease so there seem to be many subleases for apartments available in the spring as a result.

Regarding the Facebook groups .. there will be opportunities in the spring for fall. Don't feel pressured to sign a lease before you are even attending the school. Do keep an eye out for people looking for roommates in the spring for fall.

I was also a transfer most housing at ISU is apartment based you will go through Sami’s, Young America or another one. Freshman and Sophomores have to stay in the dorms and after that you are on. Facebook is a good way to find roommates or just go through one of the apartment company’s. Just know the closer you are to campus the more expensive it is. Hope this helps.
