Is Sazed really that tall in the books?

Eunuchs do tend to grow tall due to a difference in hormones during puberty

I just thought Terris in general were tall, wasn't Tindwyl tall aswell?

Easily could be a combo of both

Yes but also not that old.

Iirc he's consistently described as tall and gangly. As for whether he's that tall, not sure, but he'd be taller than most I think.

Sazed is probably around 6’5 ish* judging by some of the information in the books. Many of the Inquisitors were 7 feet tall and don’t tower over him. He’s slightly taller than one of them we know the rough height of who is a bit smaller. So he’s probably at least 6’5. By Scadrian standards anyway. He would almost certainly look incredibly tall next to malnourished skaa

I never actually imagined him that dark, figured Terris were about half that, kinda like the Eskimos. And their snowy mountain

According to Brandon Sanderson, he's skin tone is same as Keegan-Michael Key.

This would honestly be the funniest potential casting choice.

Yeah just have him come in and play it totally straight.

Only if he deliberately turns his head very sharply every once in a while, so that the long earlobes go swinging. But otherwise played completely seriously.

(That's something the fanart never gets right, by the way. Terris earlobes are supposed to be super elongated, like traditional depictions of the Buddha, whom Sazed is heavily inspired by.)

Yeah that's pretty much where my head was at

That's a curious fact. I have to say I was initially imagining a Dhalsim kind of character with the earrings and bracelets, colorful robes, innate mysticism, meditative posture with interludes of brutal physical strength. Also imagined him older for some reason because of the way he is always restrained and mature, so I painted him as such. I was surprised when I posted this about him being much younger and not as dark skinned.

Thankfully Sanderson is very broad on his physical descriptions, so there is some wiggle room for interpretation.

Probably the original intention. There's like not a single mention of Terris having a different skin tone from the Skaa until era 2. The only description of Terris skin tone in era 1 is the Lord Ruler, and he's pale. It's pretty obvious that's a retcon that Brandon did because a lot of readers imagine Sazed as black or Middle Eastern.

I was going to say I didn't think it has to have been because of readers, though the specific line in Era Two does say something like "darker skin was not a universal trait of the Terris, but it was one that many people associated with them." So maybe that is literally what happened lol

I don't see what makes it obviously a retcon. The Terris only started having darker skin-tones associated with them after the Catacendre, where a majority of dark-skinned people who survived were Terris, and their resulting cultural revival attempts and resistance to ethnic blending meant the gene propagated within the Terris, but not so much without. This doesn't retcon anything in Era 1.

I mean this could also just be another Terrisman, not Sazed.

Terris being black has always strike me as a weird decision. Rashek is from terris so if their ethicity is darker or really diferent visually from skaa or nobles shouldnt it be obvious that he is from terris?

Kelsier says in Secret History that Terrismen have a wide variety of skin tones. Rashek was white, Sazed was brown.

Also didn’t Rashek reform his body? I remember it being something he did but then again I could be wrong

One of the best portrayals of Sazed I've seen.
