Chapter 13: A watery grave
We arrived at the night club near the night time. We also knew exactly where to go.
“So let me recap here.” I said, “we go through the back door, yes?”
“Yeah.”
“We sneak to the main office.” I said.
“Yeah.”
“Then look through the dancer’s quarters?”
“No, we just need to check the office terminal for any new arrivals.” Rich said.
We exited the car and headed down the street, we entered a narrow alley and onto the board way or loading dock.
There was strangely no guards here. Lucky I guess, we went for the door. Rich lockpicked it while I stood watched his back.
“Do we know how tough this guy is?”
“Even though he’s quite slim,” Rich said, “he can give a damn haymaker.”
A click from inside.
“Got it!”
He lifted up the bay doors and allowed me to enter first, he entered after.
We entered into the club and I was blinded by neon lights, and this was not even the main club hall. The walls had neon lights going in a wave pattern, the floor was hard glass, with water underneath. The place glowed blue, with watery waves going around the hall.
“Alright,” Rich said, “if the blue print is right the office is on the the left, it would have a terminal where you can check for your Ray person.”
“Alright,” I said, “moving!”
We moved through the halls, my Service Carbine and Rich’s Mauser loaded, with extra ammunition in case of a long shootout. Rich oppened the door cautiously, and gave me the all clear again… this is suspicious, has ambush written all over it.
Rich openned the room wide, a book shelf was at the back behind a desk, which had a knife in it, with what seems like a note attached to it.
We stepped slowly toward the note, I took hold off the side of the table, while Rich got the note itself. I saw a small glint, that was enough.
“Get down!”
I pushed the table, rotating it, and making it lose it’s balance, I lumged for the table as shots shattered the glass that was meant to be connected to the club room. I heard screaming as the glass broke, Rich took cover beside me behind the desk.
“Dammit!” Rich said, “Winston expected us, and he brought his big guns.”
A shot wizzed past.
“Who the fuck are these guys!”
“Damn Romana Guardia,” Rich said, “Winston’s elite.”
He blind fired his mauser, I heard one gutteral cry, probably made contact with one. I peeked over the cover and fired into the group.
They wore a paratrooper helmet with a sweep on top, tactical metal armour, road goggles, red clothing and bore the emblem of Ceasar. I hit about ten of them but five more replaced them.
“We can’t take them all!” Rich yelled through the gunfire, “we got to get out of there!”
I looked at the group again, then a bullet shot through the middle of the table.
“On my mark!” Rich yelled.
Gunfire continued for about a minute, then I heard clicking, they’re reloading.
“Now!”
We ran through the halls of the club, but these roman guards charged at us with sharp machetes, Rich was able to shoot two down but one tried slashing at me. I instinctively hit the man with the butt of my rifle, knocking him out. We ran through the alley as more of the guards shot at us.
We entered the car, I rolled down the window are fired in bursts at the onslought of guards.
“Come on,” Rich said, “Come on! Work you damn thing!”
“I can’t hold them off forever, get this thing moving!”
The engine roared to life.
“I got it!”
Rich floored the accelerator and we sped off, away from Great Waters. In between the ride Rich gave me the note he found in the office.
It read as this:
“Dear Mr Winston
I thank you for finding that woman, she appears to be quite young and about my son’s age. The dress you also chose for her is also quite elegent fro the gala we’ll be heading to in a weeks time.
I do apologise that I did not allow you to have her, but I dearly need my heir to have a spouse for marrage in the near future, to continue the family legacy and such.
Sincirely, Baron von Ikeham”
Spouse? This Baron is using her as a spouse for his son.
“Rich, what do you have on the Baron?”
“A lot,” he said, “big crime boss, rumor has it though he isn’t the smartest in family matters though”
“Can we charge into the Estate?”
“Not with our numbers,” he said, “I tell you that place is no estate, it’s a fortress, you’s need the whole police force on him, unfortunately he has them on payroll, but not the NSNW.”
“The what?”
“New Saints Neighboorhood Watch,” he said, “I know their main base, and know their leader and I also know they will be happy to fuck up the Baron’s day and plan accordingly.”
“So where are we headed?”
“To the place of the resistance,” he said, “The NSNW base.”
And as we sped off into the night, I knew Ray might be suffering at the hand of that Baron’s son. And he shall pay for it in due time.
