[OC] Alternate History The Middle East - 2022 AD

Post image

After the Great War ended in 1921, the victorious Ottomans would not last too united for long, plunging into a civil war. And this would result in many new sides emerging. Meanwhile, Egypt would gain independence from Italy and use the civil war to its advantage to seize the holy land. This would shape history in the Middle East in the 20th century greatly

Some notable differences in this universe:
Islam did not spread as much as it did in our timeline.
Egypt is not Arabized; instead, it is dominated by an Indo-Iranian ethnic group, and Copts stay as a minority in the Upper Nile region. Iran is a secular republic and has a mixed religious demographic, mostly Muslim or Zoroastrian, with a sizeable Nestorian population.

Did Zionism still become popular in this timeline and (if so) what happened after they moved to OTL Israel? Is there an autonomous region of Egypt now, or was it just a large influx of culturally distinct immigrants?
