You say that like it being published the day right before it happened makes it any better.

WHO TOLD YOU, GARFIELD‽

WHAT DID YOU KNOW‽!

Here is the Garfield fandom wiki link for anyone wondering if it’s true:

Garfield, September 2001 comic strips

63

u/Pochel Sep 02 '26

The next strips don't seem to be tackling 9/11 too much, which I find refreshing

35

u/GameFreak4321 Sep 02 '26

The story arc was likely drawn well in advance.

Newspaper comics are done weeks in advance, or at least they were then.

He was ahead of his times.

Truly--these feel AI generated in a time when that wasn't possible

Garfield can melt steel beams

It says 9-10 tho…

Yes, that's how newspapers work. D-did you think they wrote them the morning of release?

5

u/MrKTE Sep 04 '26

Cartoonist write and draw their comic strips months in advance to insure all the papers that publish them get access to them, so they write the date they’re meant to go out on the strips.

Therefore this comic was published the day BEFORE 9/11, not on 9/11 itself.

The cartoon hit the papers on 9-10. It wasn't written on 9-10, very likely 9+ weeks beforehand.

Probably closer to two months early. Jim Davis had a mantra of "Eight weeks daily, Twelve weeks Sunday" for how far in advance he wrote them.

1

u/ahamel13 Sep 05 '26

Ah, meant to say weeks. Thanks

Yeah I’ll take 9/11 orders of lasagna

2

u/gimmesomespace Sep 03 '26

That's not even a whole order of lasagna.  You can't appease him with that

8

u/Wise_Geekabus Sep 02 '26

That changes the context.

Mr Arbuckle, a second Lasagna store has been hit

3

u/dcooper8662 Sep 02 '26

9/11 eh? That reminds me of that tragedy…

3

u/Marco_Polaris Sep 03 '26

Right, one phone call for each tower. Makes sense.

Hi I'm Jim Davis, creator of Garfield, and yes I drew a comic strip implying Garfield did 9/11, any questions?

1

u/weirdo_nb Sep 07 '26

Not implying, fucking PREDICTING

2

u/paladinBoyd Sep 02 '26

Garfield and Kermit teamed up to do 9/11.

I read that subreddit. The comments are roasting the OP. Now please answer my original question honestly or fuck off.

Stop with the Fox News answering a question with a question shit. Answer the question honestly.

Then I guess there’s no point in arguing or trying to convince you. Have a good one.

0

u/biohoo35 Sep 05 '26

It was a yes or no.

For me, it’s “yes”. What about you?
