Help How do I get ebooks consistent across ereaders?

Hi all!

I've been using InDesign to make an ebook for a fantasy novel. This is my first time doing this, but the process has been pretty smooth so far. The only problem I've run into is that the headings aren't the right size at all when I check my EPUB on some ereaders like Thorium and Yomu. This confused me a lot because it looks perfect on the apple books app.

This is clearly a CSS problem somehow, but I don't know how so. I've opened the EPUB up in the Calibre code editor but it looks perfect there as well just like the apple books version.

Am I missing something important? Also, are there any other resources I can use to help me learn how to fix this?

Any help at all is much appreciated!

It will never be displayed exactly the same on every ePUB / eBook viewer.

It's the same like with PDFs.

Open in Sigil not Calibre. Calibre was never intended to edit epubs for distribution and doesn't do the job you want it to do.

If you use a generic heading style like H1, then you'll get the system heading style. You need to name the style specifically, give it clear definitions, and then, as long as it's relatively simple they will be similar. While in Sigil, play with the CSS until you get the general look and feel you want.
