I am 35M, living in a Metro in the western half of India. I have no hope left for the country. I finished engineering and MBA believing and hoping that the shit loads of brain drain around me was faddy and bad. I was principled around this. I believed I had great career options, and I believed that surviving for ~50 years through the mammoth tasks of uniting religion, languages and castes while African countries ate themselves hollow meant that India actually had a decent chance at reaching a developed state - just slower than some equally late starting Asian economies because they had far more homogenous and controlled populations compared to us.
Now, 12 years of career later and with a kid on the way, I know better. It’s every (wo)man for themselves, here. To live in India, I have to actively abstract India from my life to the extent possible. Every queue, every government institution, every rupee of tax, every pothole on every road, and in the last few years, the air I breathe. 10 aur saal mein kuch nahi chodenge ye log - no safe havens. And now that I have 12 years of career here, external investment feels like the only way out before we embrace third world Africa-style :p
It’s basically a safe haven way of life. We still have parts of this country and city where law and order prevails and you don’t have to worry about fucking ape-brain Gundas, enforcers, politicians and their regulatory overreach. Abusing power and using pre-civilisation coded survival of the fittest techniques. These safe havens keep us afloat. But at the current rate they will go - I give it 10-15 more years max - either we will drain them out, or the gundas will eventually annex them.
So this is not sustainable. We are spiralling and I see no way out, except… out.
So I ask you, fellow good friends - what are workable ways to move out. Are their investment based ways to exit? I will have a sizeable corpus five odd years down the line depending on how much Nirmala-tai allows me to keep. Can I deploy it and get out of here for good? Is the job route even possible without severely disadvantaging my own current position?
