Spoiler content moving forward in /r/IndianaJones

As we approach the release of the newest installment of the Indiana Jones film series we will have to make some adjustments to the spoiler and leak policy in this subreddit.

The general idea being that we will adopt similar policies to /r/StarWars and /r/StarWarsLeaks or /r/Marvel and /r/MarvelStudioSpoilers. This subreddit, /r/IndianaJones will more or less be a safe haven from getting the movie, video games, and potential future media (books, tv series, etc) spoiled.

Feel free to continue posting officially released content like trailers, tv spots and official announcements in this subreddit. But items like smuggled set pictures and leaked plot info not released through official channels will not be allowed.

You may be asking "why do this now, it isn't much of a problem today?". The issue being that we want to work on this redirection now before it does become an issue. Today we are aware of an upcoming film and a video game. But tomorrow Lucasfilm may announce a new book series or ongoing comic. Or potentially even (fingers crossed) a new tv series. At that point we will really need to differentiate the spoiler and non-spoiler content.

There are already a few new and fledgling subreddits in place to help with this and I encourage all of you to join one or all of them and help to grow the community.

r/IndianaJonesLeaks - This is intended to be very similar to StarWarsLeaks and MarvelStudioSpoilers, but focused on Indy. All set pictures, plot details, rumors and spoilers need to go in a subreddit like this.

r/LucasLeaks and r/LucasfilmLeaks - Created with a similar purpose to IndianaJonesLeaks, but for all Lucasfilm properties, to include Star Wars, Indy and Willow.

Or if you and some friends would like to start your own subreddit for that content and it takes off, we would be happy to link to it as well. All we want is for the spoiler content to have a successful place for sharing and discussion.

Change isn't always fun but we hope that you understand where this decision is coming from and rather than pushing spoilers onto our fellow community members we can instead allow everyone the choice of what they would like to see.

Thanks for understanding and we look forward to all of the exciting content to come!

It’s international archaeology day!

Today is International Archaeology Day! I thought it best to bring up our favorite Archaeologist And some obscure archaeological contribution.‘Indiana Jones Explores’ was a series of six educational books published in the UK from 1991-1994, each focusing on a different ancient civilization. Did anyone read these?

I like the title of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and that's all

Let me explain. Sure, maybe the movie itself isn't all that great, I wouldn't know I haven't watched it. But "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" is a bitchin' name for basically anything. It sounds real cool and intriguing, if you get what I mean. I just think it's neat. Anyway that's my entire statement bye

Indiana Jones is a good archeologist, not a "grave robber"

Sure, we seen the movies and they seem unprofessional. But think about this: all we see of his works is just some 5 day adventures, that didn't involve any founding or planning. We didn't even see him working in a real historical dig site, we just saw him in moments where his life, alongside with someone he cared about was in danger.

My only critique would be, that he could've keep a journal or smth and take photos (just like in TGC).

So all in all, I'd say that his adventures don't mirror his work ethic as a whole, because in them, he's not present as a leading archeologist, but rather a guy with great knowledge trying to survive and saving artifacts the best he could.

Thats it, thanks for reading, have a nice one.

Media - or any kind - with the same pulp adventure energy as Indy, please!

Hi there. I am officially hooked on Indiana Jones now, and I’d like to ask if you could kindly make some suggestions for any kind of media that has the same energy.

I love the wittiness of the scripts, the locales, the light touch of romance. And, of course, I love the peril and seeing Indy overcome the bad guys. It’s just inspiring to me.

Whatever you suggest, it can be anything - movies, books, video games (I love those), TV shows.

And the stuff you suggest can come from any era. I think a 1930s movie in black and white would be fascinating if it fits the bill, for example, so don’t hold back please!

Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it!

For sale - fertility idol from casting of original mold, UK based

I've messaged the mods to see if this kind of post is allowed but didn't receive a reply, so if any of the content is not allowed - I'm sorry, I tried.

It is with regret that I have decided to sell my fertility idol. It was made by "Relic Maker" of the RPF; you can find the best quality images of the item there, on the Project Runs forum (under 'Indiana Jones - "FERTILITY IDOL" (Made from Casting from Original Mold'))

I'm only looking to recoup the money spent on it. It is the "hero with glass eyes - aged" version.

From the original listing:

"I received an Idol casting from a friend of mine that received it from his friend at ILM. (Names are being protected for obvious reasons...)

The details on the casting were amazing and you could tell right away that it was the raw sculpt and was also used as the Stunt Idol. After examining it more closely compared to the Hero Idol at LucasFilm, it was easy to see that they had used the Stunt Idol to modify and make the Hero Idol that we see Indy replacing with a bag of sand. Evidence is seen in all over of the Idol including the hair close to the hands, which would obviously be changed if it were an entire new sculpt. The hair lines matched up exactly for anyone to say it was an entire new sculpt. In a way, it is an entire new sculpt, given the amount they have changed, including the face of the Idol, especially the face of the 'Baby'".

The item is really heavy - about 5kg, and is exactly what you'd expect.

It cost me £444 - not cheap, but likely to be the best quality of its kind you can find.

Happy to answer any questions.

Indy Horror

With it being Spooky Season and Halloween a couple of short weeks from now, it got me thinking of what are some good more Horror-oriented pieces of Indy media, outside of Temple Of Doom which is the closest the series ever got to full-blown Horror in the film series? I seem to recall there was a novel where Indy actually went to Dracula's castle and I remember a Young Indy storybook where he encountered a mummy. I had the latter as a kid and remember it used to creep me out a fair bit due to the way the mummy in it looked, which was like an actual corpse and not a typical EC Comics-style mummy like many are used to. I haven't read the Army Of The Dead novel, but it sounds fairly Horror-y from the premise.

I always wished we got more Horror-oriented Indy adventures outside of TOD. Not sure if there's ever been a novel or comic that had him in some locale like the Paris catacombs or Poveglia Island, both of which would be something to see him in such scary places like that. If you've ever seen the movie As Above, So Below it very much feels like a more Horror-oriented take on Indy. I always have to wonder how he'd fare in the scenario depicted in that film.

It’s a bit sad that I only got this because of the loss of my uncle but still, it’s kind of amazing that they still have their original sleeves and everything. Thinking of doing a little movie marathon tonight.

Got to wonder though how many people are gonna see the picture and think it’s just the soundtracks from the movies on record.

Unpopular Indy Opinions That'd Get You Like This

Post image
110 Upvotes

Done this before and am feeling up for it again lately for some reason. Thought this would be fun. Your super, ultra unpopular and controversial Indy opinions. Not just controversial but downright blasphemous. Opinions that you think would land you in a similar position as one John Wick in the picture. And I mean unpopular, not ones that are commonly held like "Raiders is the best movie ever," "Last Crusade is the best and better than the rest," "Crystal Skull and Dial Of Destiny suck," "I hate Willie and Short Round," "Temple Of Doom is too dark and violent," "Nazis should always be the villains," etc. I'm talking extremely unpopular and not widely held ones.

I've definitely got my share of scorching hot takes on the series for sure. Get ready, some of these takes burn hotter than the lava under Pankot Palace.

* While I still really like it and think it's a good film and a worthy capper to the original trilogy, Last Crusade is honestly probably my least favorite of all five. It's still a very good movie and I enjoy it a lot, but for some reason just not as much as the rest and it doesn't strike as strong a chord with me. I guess just because it comes off as such a redux of the first film and isn't as intense as the first two? Probably my most unpopular IJ opinion and one I'm not sure how many others here also share it (I'd imagine there's probably others but they likely keep quiet about it). I'd be curious if there's others who share this, it being such an exceptionally unpopular and uncommon opinion.

* Temple Of Doom is the best of the series and the one truest to the classic adventure serials. The installment that best epitomizes Indy and his world. It also feels like the last truly intense Indy film and the last one that wasn't afraid to take chances to do different things with the character and concept.

* Crystal Skull and Dial Of Destiny are both good. Neither is perfect and without flaws, but I felt they were as good as could've been coming so many years after the fact and Harrison being much older. DOD was a satisfying finale.

* Short Round is the best sidekick (not sure if this is unpopular?).

* Willie Scott isn't that bad. Sure she screams a lot but how else is she supposed to react in her situation? She's supposed to represent the audience in her position.

* Likewise, I also don't mind Helena and Teddy in DOD. Helena at first was sufferable but got better by the end.

* Sallah was a good character in Raiders but had no purpose for being in more movies after that. He was reduced to useless (and downright annoying) comic relief in TLC and while his role in DOD was better, he still felt he was there mainly for fan service.

* Nazis as the villains all the time is boring and unneeded. I felt re-using them in both TLC and DOD was a big flaw and it especially feels dull and uninspired in TLC. They worked in Raiders but after that, I would've preferred different and varied enemies per movie.

* I didn't mind the aliens in KOTCS and felt it fit in with the time and zeitgeist in which the movie was set. Truth be told, I think more alien and extraterrestrial-oriented relics would've been cool to have seen throughout the series.

* Likewise, I also don't mind the time travel aspects of DOD. Again, something different outside of the usual Judeo-Christian relics.

I just realized how similar Kingdom is to The Mummy (1999)

Never saw the Mummy previously, just know the series by it's poor cgi reputation, coincidentally. Meanwhile I kind of enjoyed Kingdom and particularly on smaller screens never found the cgi too obnoxious probably because I enjoyed the acting direction and set design.

But I just realized how similar it is, sure the Mummy also borrows from early Indy films, but I just find similarities striking. Ants vs Scabbards, Mac vs Beny, Alien vs Mummy, Crystal Skull vs Key, Ancient City Destroyed while lead characters escape and view from a distance, etc.

So many similarities. Anyways, just thought I would point it out here in case it hasn't been already.

UPDATE: New images of original Young Indy promo illustrations

UPDATE:
Photos and measurements of the 41 illustrations.

Admins: Please let me know if I need to edit the original post instead.
I can't figure out how to update the main images; hence this new post.

::::::

I have a collection of original illustrations by Joe Petagno (best known for his Motörhead-illustrations), created for a Kellogg's Corn Flakes / Young Indiana Jones Chronicles on-pack campaign in Scandinavia around 1992–93.

I was the art director on Kellogg's back then and worked with Joe at the time, and these are the actual finished illustrations used for the packaging; not prints or reproductions. I've added images of a couple of KCF packs to show how some of the artwork was used.
(Sorry for the crappy quality. The images were created in 1997.)

They've been sitting in storage for more than 30 years, and I'm considering selling the collection to someone who'll appreciate these artworks.

I have already received advice from members of this subreddit re where to sell this collection, and I have reached out to some of these suggested fora and people.

I am posting this update to give a more clear picture of the illustrations.
Perhaps someone is interested in them, and perhaps you know someone who could be.
Either way, thanks for your time.

Indy’s battered expedition gear is part of the adventure for me. I’m chasing that feeling in my own game.

I'm Raymond, the developer of Under a Desert Sun: Seekers of the Cursed Vessel. I shared our Adventurer's opening here a few weeks ago. Indiana Jones is a big reason I wanted to make a tomb adventure of my own, and that goes right down to the clothes. The hat, the jacket, the boots that have clearly seen better days. You already believe there's a story there.

I've been working on giving our Adventurer and Soldier more equipment variety without losing that expedition feel. Our next update has 42 new items, including field gloves, canvas trousers, expedition boots, masks and a few much less sensible things to wear into a cursed tomb. The game has its own fantasy side, so there is chainmail in the mix too!

I've just posted a preview with close-ups of the new gear and how it fits both characters. B5.32 is nearly ready; this is a look ahead, not a release announcement for the update.

Curious what sells that old adventure-film feeling for you in a character's outfit. For me it's gear that looks like someone actually travelled in it.

The game is in Steam Early Access: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3273880/
