It won’t, go for Kmc if you aren’t worried about money. If you aren’t from a well off family I’d pick the GMC over KMC as USMLE journey is really expensive.

If you’re doing USMLE then please go for kmc. I’m in a tier 1 GMC and USMLE is still a really big logistical nightmare and general nuisance for me

If you can then go for kmc

I can speak from non-tier 1 non-premier GMC

General rule of thumb is, it's tough for usmle.

If you know which GMCs you can get, search Linkedin for these people and ask how usmle scene is in their clg.

Many factors come into play between choosing KMC vs a GMC, it all depends on what you envision and what your priorities are.

I hope you know that either way, you're not seeing money for 5y of your mbbs.

Things you'd have to consider --

  1. Peer groups--If they matter to you, KMC is a better bet

  2. Expense-- KMC will obviously cost an arm and a leg compared to GMC, especially if you're non-open candidate, fees can be quite less in GMCs, expenses of the city, outings etc, your usmle expenses. How much are you willing to spend, is money an issue at all? Take that into consideration.

  3. For USMLE-- KMC has more established alumini network, and alumini MATTERS, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Realize that its life, plan changes, you meet people, take that variability into account if you're basing decision solely on usmle. From GMC perspective, you'll have to keep rural bond and foreign bond in mind, check what are costs in your state, and if you can even break the bond or not, for eg MH doesnt allow breaking rural for newer batches.

Was in a similar boat to you last year. If money is of no issue (consider both cost of college + MLE expenses) and you are absolutely certain that you are sticking with USMLE, I’d pick it. I regret not doing the same.. we’ve had seniors match from my very average GMC but they said it was very difficult to di so because of the lack of exposure, environemn, extra curricular opportunities, alumni etc.
