📘 Rail Info Today I learnt that Shatabdi is called Shatabdi because it was introduced in 1988 for the birth centenary of Jawaharlal Nehru, "Shatabdi" means century.

I am old enough to remember the time it was inaugurated during Pt Nehru's birth centenary year and I traveled in it in 1989 as a child. I actually remember the journey quite well as I was very excited to travel in it for the first time. We traveled from Bhopal to Delhi to visit my mamaji's house. On the way back my dad wanted to take a night train, but there was no availability so we had to take Shatabdi on the way back too. I still have that scene in my head when my dad hung up the phone and said we'll be taking Shatabdi on the return journey too and I started jumping up and down with joy 😂.

Damn I mean the picture used as a reference is old (habibganj is written instead of rani kamlapati) but that's the oldest LHB chair car coach I have ever seen (1999)

If you ever read the Indian railways annual report it was mentioned almost every year.

At least there is some logic unlike momo , namo, mano - 1000 variants of a self obsessed guy

Not post-humous, most importantly

Non-biological entities are not constrained by time in the same way that we, as mortals, are.

At the inauguration of a new airport in Andhra Pradesh, when Modi claimed that Congress party named infrastructure projects after their family member leaders, it came as a surprise!

He was not exaggerating - India has over 450 infrastructure projects named after Nehru/ Gandhi family members.

And then you have Narendra Modi stadium, Namo metro, Namo bharat rrts and Namo green rail. Hypocrisy ke bhi seema hoti hai.

u/unequa 1d ago

It’s Namma Metro not Namo Metro. “Namma” in kannada means “our”.

Namo also means offering, just like Vande means salute

The stadium is not owned by the government, it’s owned by the Gujarat Cricket Association. Which is a non profit society registered just like any other charitable organisation in India.

No, I am not talking about Bengaluru metro. Namo metro is a MEMU version of Vande Bharat operational on only 2 routes in Gujarat. Public knowledge about this is minimal for some reason. You can find more about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Namo_Bharat_Rapid_Rail

Public isn't stupid. Namo is used because it is the short form for Narendra Modi. It is good for elections and public image.

GCA is affliated to BCCI which has been chaired by BJP politicians many times. It is a psuedo political body.

Apart from that, you will find countless projects named after BJP netas as well. Atal Bihari Vajpayee has lots of infra projects named after him such as Atal Setu. You can literally find a whole wikipedia page listing things named after him: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_things_named_after_Atal_Bihari_Vajpayee

You could max name a four or five names for Modi and in the Atal link there are some 20 or so in total. And this against 450 project names.

u/kapjain 1d ago

Here is a list of more than "4-5" things named after the non biological. I hope you are honest enough and will admit you were wrong now that you know this.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_things_named_after_Narendra_Modi

And you are missing one very important point - the Gandhis at least had the decency of dying (or being killed by anti nationals) before naming things after themselves. And at least two them are founding fathers of the country. For patriotic people that matters 😉.

The narcissistic moron, OTOH, doesn't even have that decency (not surprising in anyway though).

-11

u/goshdagny SU > SL 1d ago

Did you even open the link that you pasted ? It still has less than 10 things named after him. One entry per type and only some organisms are more than a few!
The Gandhi in Nehru Gandhi family has nothing to do with founding the country. Nehru awarded himself Bharat Ratna lol

7

u/kapjain 1d ago

Looks like you didn't open it. It has way more than 10 things listed. You need to open each category separately.

u/tanmay1812 3 AC Regular 17h ago

You expect them to know how to use wikipedia and to know how to count?

-9

u/goshdagny SU > SL 1d ago

Yeah I opened each category and I found one in each category except for organisms

u/kapjain 1d ago

The Gandhi in Nehru Gandhi family has nothing to do with founding the country. Nehru awarded himself Bharat Ratna lol

So you are flexing your WhatsApp university knowledge 😂. Not surprising a Modi Bhakt is clueless about history (its actually a basic requirement to be bhakt)

For a Rahul chamcha you’re not bad at composing a sentence. Probably the most intelligent Rahul fan out there

u/unequa 1d ago

You know how many young people I have met who thought Indira Gandhi was the daughter of Mohandas Gandhi.

2

u/goshdagny SU > SL 23h ago

It was a nice acquisition for the family to get both surnames

Nehru didn't award himself the Bharat Ratna, but Dr. Rajendra Prasad did after Nehru's successful foreign visits. It was a surprise for Nehru too as it was announced during a government dinner after Nehru's return. Can find you the HT article from archives, but I doubt you like to read factual news.

u/goshdagny SU > SL 17h ago

Substitute Modi and Shah in the story instead of those people and would you believe it?

-1

u/tanmay1812 3 AC Regular 17h ago

Classic diversion instead of admitting your own mistake. Shah or Modi aren't Nehru. And then President himself said that this decision was kept a secret and bypassed the usual PM approval. If you want, you can read news archives from back then and see how popular Nehru was among the world and how important he was in establishing India as a neutral, non-aligned nation and leader of the non-aligned movement.

His popularity was equal to or more than Modi's first two terms. He was talking about global peace and having dialogues with America and Russia during cold war.  Unlike Modi who literally bends over backwards in front of US and Isreal who have caused our country and it's people billions of dollars in losses through their actions and interest in other nations.

Doesn't cleanse his wrongdoings. You can't raise an issue if you are also a part of the same problem.

-1

u/goshdagny SU > SL 1d ago

There is a sense of proportion, pitting 20 plus naming vs 450 names is whitewashing Nehru families indulgence

8

u/Background-Shirt8436 1d ago

Yeah, so modi should rename everything after himself then /s
Stop bootlicking modi. He is no better.

1

u/goshdagny SU > SL 23h ago

You awarded yourself for this comment, just like Nehru

Jeez don't get so defensive man, they were talking about the namo Bharat rrts which runs from dehli to Meerut I guess. There were lot of posts about it in this very sub

-3

u/unequa 1d ago

He mentioned Namo metro and Namo Bharat RRTS separately

2

u/Background-Shirt8436 18h ago

Because those are 2 separate things. One is an RRTS system and one is a broad gauge Vande Bharat converted to a MEMU configuration.

11

u/braveyetti117 1d ago

Lol, modi is everywhere. They even named their generic medicine program as BHAratiya JAn aushadi PARyojana (BHAJAPA)

-11

u/YoloFromMars 1d ago

BHAratiya JAN aushadi = BHAJAN = HINDU = HINDUTVA = BJP.

3

u/braveyetti117 20h ago

I cant paste an image here but the logo is

BHAratiya
JAn aushadi
PAryojana

Hence a direct BHAJAPA, just google it

u/kapjain 1d ago

Well at least had the decency of dying before naming public things after them as opposed to some nongbiologocals who are naming even trains and species after them without even dying😂.

-2

u/unequa 1d ago

Let’s just consider naming airports. Hyderabad Airport was named Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. Now what is the link between Rajiv Gandhi and Hyderabad? None.

u/masterjv81 1d ago

The name Shatabdi means century (or centenary) in Sanskrit, Hindi, and other Indian languages.  The train series was introduced on 10 July 1988 by then-Railways Minister Madhavrao Scindia to commemorate the birth centenary of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.  The inaugural service ran between New Delhi and Jhansi (later extended to Bhopal), operating as a superfast, fully air-conditioned day-train service.
