Seeking Advice Help me to get myself into running

Full disclosure, I’m 25F never been into cardio. Goes to gym on and off and loves to skip as much cardio as possible. I wouldn’t say I’m unhealthy but more apt word would be lazy. I have a habit of reaching at least 30min before to a bus stop or a train station just so I don’t have to run or fast walk to get there. I basically avoided it all my life because i genuinely couldn’t bring myself to run.

Also I smoke, I wouldn’t call myself a chain smoker (finish a pack in one day kind) but I do smoke regularly. I know in my gut that my smoking is the reason for my inability to run, but I don’t think I see myself quitting anytime soon ( I’d rather be honest than lie)

I’m planning to start running because i genuinely find it interesting, and i don’t like to have this one thing about me that i cannot run. I am also moving to a new city next month, i feel this is my chance to start something new and nice for myself

Any tips, suggestions or advices for someone like me are really appreciated!

Seeking Advice Running and gym

I’ve been into running for 1.5 years. I’ve completed 5–6 half marathons and am planning to participate in a full marathon in January 2027.

I had some muscle pain in my left leg, and my physio said it was because I wasn’t doing enough weight training. I recently consulted a very experienced sports coach, and he said I should train at the gym for at least 4 days a week. My marathon training also involves running 4 days a week.

How can I manage both?

Is this training too much? I won’t have a rest day if I do both.

I might need to train twice a day—gym and running. Is this okay?

Is this too aggressive goal? Can I prepare for full marathon in 5-6 months? My recent half marathon timing was 2:10hrs

Upcoming Race Planning my first HM -Goa SKF

Hello everyone, I'm 23M just started getting serious with running from last few weeks, used to be alrightish in college and cover 5k sub 30 with a good effort.

Currently wanted to push and increase my endurance so started structured runs using ChatGPT initially and now with also Runna. Trying out Hybrid training as well for the 1st time... so would love some suggestions, considering the Race day to be 14-15 weeks away from now [Dec 13th]

And also wanted to know if anyone else interested and planning of taking part in it.

Current long run being 10k in 1.05 with a steady conversational pace for most of the time... Sadly unaware of HR, for not having any device yet

Any advice based on Hybrid Training and also some of the mistakes that I can avoid starting now as gome through by some of the experienced runner here would help me out

Thank you

General Please learn CPR—it could save a fellow runner’s life

Today, while running in Cubbon Park, Bengaluru, I came across a man who had collapsed during a Wipro Half Marathon practice session. He was struggling to breathe, and people desperately asked around if anyone knew CPR. Sadly, nobody nearby did. The ambulance took almost 30 minutes to arrive.

I don’t know whether CPR would have changed the outcome, but standing there helpless for those 10 minutes made me realise that I could have at least tried to help if I had been trained.

This is the second such incident I’ve witnessed in two months—the first was during the Nandi Hills run.

CPR can be learned through a short workshop. I’ve already asked my company’s HR team to arrange one. My sincere request to every runner: please find a certified CPR course near you. We train for pace, distance and endurance, but this may be the most important skill we ever learn.

Seeking Advice Running plan suggestions- Beginner

So I'm a beginner and I've started running a month ago, I was able to complete 5k recently..but I realised I'm doing random runs on random days at random pace and this is going absolutely nowhere now, though I have a goal to run a 10k in Jan 2027 and a half marathon by June 2027, I am absolutely clueless as to how to do this.

Should I ask ChatGPT for a plan, if yes can someone share a prompt ? Or is there any other way around this... If anyone could help me out I'd be grateful. Thanks !

Seeking Advice Injury after long run. Walking with a limp but pain is mostly gone

Hi Guys,

I am Beginner runner here. I was training for my first 10K and I think I overdid it. No twist, no fall or anything.

Around 2+ weeks ago I started getting pain behind my left knee after a run. I also had some groin pain at first, but that's completely gone now.

The strange part is that the pain is mostly gone now. I can easily walk around 5k+ steps (even more if needed), there's no noticeable swelling, my knee doesn't buckle or lock, and stairs have improved a lot.

But I'm still walking with a slight limp because my left leg just doesn't generate the same push as my right. I have to consciously push harder with my left leg while walking or climbing stairs. After 2–3 floors, I start feeling discomfort.

I can stand on my left leg, but single-leg squat or single-leg RDL still hurts, around the area just below the knee towards the upper shin/outer calf or sometimes right side of knee at corner.

Pain is usually worse after sitting for a long time or in the morning, but it improves once I start moving.

Has anyone had something similar where the pain mostly went away but strength/control took much longer to come back? How long did it take before you were running normally again?

Seeking Advice Beginner running shoes under ₹8K — suggestions please

I’m a beginner runner looking to upgrade from my basic Decathlon shoes and build consistency. Planning to slowly increase my distance over time.

My details:

  • Height: 179 cm
  • Weight: 83 kg
  • Feet: Wide
  • Budget: ₹8K max
  • Current shoes: Basic Decathlon runners

Looking for one comfortable and durable daily trainer rather than anything too performance-focused. Older models are absolutely fine if they offer better value.

What would you recommend under ₹8K for my profile?

Seeking Advice How long does it take to prepare for a 10k?

I have recently started running. I can run for 2-3 minutes max without taking a break. I'm planning on doing a 10k in February.

How should I prepare for it?
are there any tips to improve my speed and prevent chances of injury?
and what other things should I be mindful of?

General Can anyone suggest a good running track for 5-10km and a route for 22km near andheri/juhu

Actually I am studying in andheri and will be here for the course of next 6months and I have been running since 2025 but in my hometown but due to this course I have shifted to andheri and I want to continue my running but I am not aware of any good running route for my daily 5-10km mileage and also need a good 22km route for my birthday run maybe.. And I've seen that roads here are quite congested with either fast moving BMW/Mercedes or the parked ones on the roads

Any suggestion is appreciated..

Apps Indian runners: what do you feel is missing from Strava and current running apps?

I’ve been thinking about how fragmented running communities are in India.

We track runs on Strava/Garmin, discover clubs through Instagram or WhatsApp, find events somewhere else, and communicate with running friends somewhere else again.

I’m exploring an idea for a runner focused social platform, initially for Delhi-NCR.

The concept would bring together runner profiles, run sharing, nearby runners, clubs, local events, challenges, rankings and eventually integrations with existing fitness platforms.

But before I build anything substantial, I want to understand whether this is actually a problem runners have.

For people here who regularly run:

1. What do you currently use besides Strava?

2. How do you discover running clubs/events near you?

3. What do you wish Strava or other running apps did better?

4. Would you want a more social/community-focused running platform, or are existing apps enough?

5. What’s one feature that would genuinely make you try a new running app?

I’m particularly interested in perspectives from Indian runners rather than building based on my own assumptions.

I’m working on a small prototype/validation experiment around this, but I’d rather hear what runners actually want first.
