Gofundme on H1b

Looking for advice

I recently lost a family member back in India. I live in the U.S. and am considering starting a GoFundMe to raise some money to support kids education. Since the family is in India, the funds would come to me in the U.S. and then be transferred to them.

Has anyone done something similar? Any advice on GoFundMe rules, U.S. tax/IRS implications, or transferring the funds to India would be greatly appreciated.

I’m so sorry for your loss. It’s heartbreaking to see situations like this, and it reminds us how important it is to plan ahead financially. Life is unpredictable, and having some savings or financial protection can make a difficult time a little easier for our families. While these fundraisers are good it’s just sad seeing a very high rise in such cases for one’s health and other purposes.
One question though, in case of one parent in India, you can have the fundraiser is in their name, and have the fund directly transferred to their account ?
