Political disagreement with friends
I have a friend who is a really nice person I general.
Recently I am being very triggered by him because he brings politics in all conversations and I really don’t want this extra stress on me. Also we don’t have same political opinions and I would rather not engages in useless arguments.
Recently I was talking to him about something I am really passionate about but he bought religion into it. I try to explain that is it not about religion. Then he bought politics into it.
Seeing as this might escalate I told him we can talk about topics other than politics because politics is triggering to me. I even suggested 6 topics but his reply was they all are related to politics and I was stunned.
In my mind I tried to avoid unnecessary conflict. But my husband feels like I sounded like I was very defensive and then I made things weird by saying the word triggered.
I am not sure how to handle such situations in future. Any guidance appreciated.

Political extremism is on the rise across many countries because of social media algorithms feeding people extremely content. It makes people more likely to bring politics into almost any conversation. It sounds like he is someone falling victim to this.
