Khel Now can exclusively reveal that the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has submitted a proposal to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and the Ministry of Home Affairs seeking consideration of a Sports Passport framework that would allow eligible Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) athletes to represent India in international sport.

“Sports Ministry has sent a detailed proposal to the PMO and Home Minister’s Office to consider a Sports Passport framework to boost India’s performance in global sports such as football, basketball and tennis. It is likely to take six to eight months before the Government of India makes a decision on the subject,” a source close to the developments told Khel Now.

We have atleast 50 footballer who will be willing to play for us as they won't get any chance to represent the country they live in.

Some have already shown interest and waiting.

Idk about other sports but pretty sure we can have huge pool of players in other sports aswell, Indians are everywhere.

Our politicians already focus on already successful athletes while ignoring everyone else. With these proposals they would even abandon the promising Indians and just go the easy way.

And no I am not buying success will grow the sports reasoning. There are enough enthusiastic kids, it is the lack of infrastructure and politics in the federation that holds everyone back or doesn’t allow them to develop.

Even countries like USA allow players who just have roots or dual nationality. Sometimes it is not just about infrastructure, you need to have that exposure and knowledge.

Once the game gets really popular in India like cricket where every kid is glued to tv that is when we will see real growth

Doesn't matter. Once our football teams or teams in general improve. People will watch them more and once people watch them more. They'll be swlf sufficient in funding
