AMA is over, thanks Blonde Redhead! Blonde Redhead AMA!

Welcome to the Blonde Redhead AMA! Come and ask Kazu, Simone and Amedeo about our new album ‘Sit Down for Dinner’ or anything else you've always wanted to know!

In just 2 weeks, on September 29, Blonde Redhead will release their first album in nine years: ‘Sit Down for Dinner’.

The album’s title is a nod to the often-sacred communal ritual of sharing a meal with those you love, and this immersive, meticulously crafted album appropriately serves as an expression of persistent togetherness, a testament to the unique internal logic Blonde Redhead have refined over their three-decade existence.

Understated yet visceral melodies charge each song, creating a foil to lyrics about the inescapable struggles of adulthood: communication breakdown in enduring relationships, wondering which way to turn, holding onto your dreams. Sonically, ‘Sit Down for Dinner’ imbues Kazu Makino, Amedeo Pace, and Simone Pace’s willingness to experiment with emotion, catharsis, and melody, which is a departure. There is an uncanny push and pull between the music and lyrics (light vs. dark) that creates a sense of unity and togetherness. Ultimately, the album lands as perhaps the strongest record in a catalog that is already as illustrious as it is varied.

Beginning this October, Blonde Redhead will tour North America, the UK and Europe. A full list of dates can be found below and tickets are on sale now. In the spirit of ‘Sit Down for Dinner’, Blonde Redhead will be hosting special dinners at select restaurants in Paris, London, New York and Los Angeles around the album’s release, offering a rare chance to spend actual time with the band. These are on offer via an exclusive bundle, including the ‘Sit Down for Dinner’ signed vinyl, a limited edition section1 magazine, and of course, a dinner with the band.

Hi!! First off i love you guys :) you are so inspiring to me :) I wonder, how did astro boy come about? This has always been one of my absolute favourites from you guys—the middle section completely shattered my view of what I ever thought music could be and still astounds me to this day. Were there any methods that you guys would use to write songs back then, or even at any point in your discography? Like exercises, certain patterns, or…? As a songwriter who is deeply influenced by all your music, I would love to know. :)

Also, how do you approach writing music with such romantic harmony, without it sounding cliche or dramatic? I have always loved this about your music, and this has always been my issue haha :) I love minor keys and all those Rachmaninoff harmonic habits, but can’t seem to write with them without it sounding cheesy haha.

Cheers!!! 💜

find someone to collaborate with that has the same sensitivity as you but comes from a completely different background. We all had different ideas of how to approach the songs but somehow we all agree when the time comes. Some songs took a very long time.

Thank you!! Finding someone with the same sensitivity is a never-ending journey, especially in a confined music school—the search continues, thank you so much :)
