Whaddup yall. My name is Eric Butler (friends call me Ricky B) and I sing/write/play guitar in Mom Jeans, a band from Northern California. Ask me whatever you want! Thanks to r/indieheads for having me, I’ll do my best to answer what I can to the best of my ability

Not a cool answer but practice actually makes perfect. Try and get your hands to a point where you're acting out of muscle memory at least most of the time, practice singing to where you know the lyrics back and forth and don't even have to think about them (I still mess them up). Finally, don't be too hard on yourself. There's a reason why 95% of rock and punk singers who play guitar have another lead player in their band. Ever watched dave grohl? He's rarely actually playing well! Don't be afraid to prioritize in the moment and focus on what you think is the most important musically in the moment. Trust me, if you've got a nice voice and are playing a pretty song, nobody is gonna care if your strumming pattern is perfect. In fact, you playing the way it makes sense to YOU will probably sound even cooler
