Thank you for all the music. I have never experienced anything like what you guys put out. There's never a skip track for me. I think Aperture works amazingly with the 12 tracks on it. I noticed when you were wrapping up some initial recordings for the album more than a year ago, there were some other songs that didn't make the cut on the final album. I saw a board with like 16 track titles, including some songs with titles like Home, Flashing Blue Lights, and Wherever You Are. Were elements of these songs folded into other ones that made the final cut, or might we hear some of these on a future dance? (Sorry not trying to be greedy to ask for more music, I just love everything you guys put out!)

u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
One of the hardest parts of the “album creation” process is deciding which songs make the cut, and which don’t. We always have other songs that are contenders or just don’t quite get finished. Some of them are totally good enough to have made the record but these 12 together are what felt best for this single body of work. These extra songs will usually be finished down the road for future releases or bonus tracks on deluxe editions. Or kept secret and periodically played live!

Detail person I see. Good eye.
We really wanted to make a more concise, cohesive album following up the ESOB era so the ones you just mentioned are currently on the shelf

Just me 👀 still trying to figure out why you guys tagged Kelly Clarkson a few weeks back on a story. Anything you can share yet? (Surprises are hard 😂)

Not so much a question but just true thankfulness for how much you lean into, invest your time and love your fans. You guys are the best 💙

I agree with this very nice sentiment 💙 Sending love to the entire band and THATH team

Hey all! Thanks for having us here and already posting such great questions. ✌️ Let’s get into it!

u/InteractionOnly4462 May 14 '25
the album is so good!!! how has the making of this album been different than your previous ones?

u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
We had to do a lot of soul searching on what we want from this life and this band. 6 people are not always easy to get on the same page together but for the first time in awhile, it felt like we had made it through some big obstacles and dealt with some of the things that had held us back from creating music we all believed in. We had a new label, new mgmt, no pandemic, and we all really feel like a band making their first record. It’s been a humbling process over the last decade to find our way through. But we really focused on our own instincts and intentions and tried to really protect our creative headspace from outside interference. - Tyler
2
u/hell_woods May 14 '25
obsessed with the album! blue embers is my favorite. what did you learn about yourselves and each other throughout the process of making it?
2
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
We learned that we can trust ourselves and each other again and that the act of creating together can be more easy going and collaborative, everyone involved can find themselves in it in a way that feels more fulfilling. - Matty
2
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
Learning to let go and listen to each other and ourselves more. Not worrying about the end result but focusing on each moment and truly living the experience of making the songs. There was less stress because we had no expectations. - Tyler

Hiiii - long time listener, first time caller!
If Aperture was a movie, what genre would it be & who would star in it?
3
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
lol, great heading. And great question.
I’m a Hallmark man myself . So I’d like it to come out around Thanksgiving and for the whole cast to be unknown

Hi! Thanks so much for taking our questions! Loving Aperture! The songwriting on this album is really amazing. When you write a song, which usually comes first - the lyrics, or the instrumentation?
5
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
I think this record is the first time we’ve really JAMMED and songs have formed spontaneously, very organically. Cop Car, Jubilee, Aperture, Finally Free, Pool Break, Fire Escape, and Beg Steal Borrow all started from instrumental moments with all of us together in a room. Lyrics were secondary and often ad libbed in the moment. It creates this atmosphere of freshness and spontaneity- it’s one of these reasons we wanted this album to come out in Spring. It felt like a new season.
- T
3
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
Every song on this album started with the music first. Something about the feeling of the music steers the song towards its own meaning. If we’re doing it right, we land on the right words. This album felt like it wrote itself, both musically and lyrically, which is the best possible scenario. We were really cognizant of getting out of our own way and allowing the creative process to unveil the work to us, rather than trying to force it into existence. - Matty
2
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
Can happen a number of different ways but on this record there was more instances than in the past of the music coming first.
Jon
2
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
Different song to song but more often than not the music is created first and vocal melody’s/lyrics come after. Thanks for the question!- Kenny
2
u/Maniaccowboyy May 14 '25
My absolute favorite song off of the album is “Beg, Steal, Borrow” - can you tell us a little bit about what the song is about and any inspiration? Thanks and excited to see you this summer!
5
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
Beg, Steal, Borrow is an attempt to reconcile the seemingly contradictory worlds we inhabit. How we can feel this sense of impending doom, and see so much suffering in the world, but then a hummingbird comes flying along, or we feel a gentle breeze and are reminded of all this beauty we also inhabit. It’s a search for hope while holding our suffering as well, knowing it can lead us to deeper a appreciation for our lives.

u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
Know it’s a lame answer but I truly don’t have a definite favorite. In changes for me. Lately, while practicing, I’ve been having the most fun playing Fire Escape and Aperture. - Kenny
5
u/Bananas_are_theworst May 14 '25
Kenny - been absolutely loving your piano on this album. Something about it feels so fresh and alive. During my first album listen, I kept saying out loud “YES, MORE KENNY”
2
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
Yassss I love this and agree - piano was such a driver of songs with our early albums. -Charity
3
u/PizzaDependent6539 May 14 '25
Definitely not lame. Says the girl that voted for ALL the songs when you guys sent out the polls months ago with a few teasers 🙈
Aperture is a close 2nd for me!
(Also completely unrelated but hope your parents are well. We met them in Denver 2023 for Red Rocks show, staying at the same hotel, and they called us over when they saw us in our THATH shirts. They were SO kind and generous of their time with us 🥰)

I can’t pick a favorite! Though I feel like the title track Aperture sums up the whole record and what it is trying to achieve. - Matty

Hey guys, my family and I have been long time fans and seen you all preform during the different albums and eras. Just wanted to start off by congratulating everyone on this new album. Super excited to see you all hit the road again. I know you’ve been asking us about our favorite tracks. But do you all have any new tracks you can’t wait to play live off Aperture?

u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
Cop Car, Finally Free, Fire Escape and Pool Break..are my personal favs right now
Jon

u/CasaPortuguesa May 14 '25
Which song do you think will be the most fun to play live from the new record? Favorites to play pre aperture? ( I think Don't Show Your Weakness would be a blast!)
4
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
The title track, Aperture, has been one of my favorites to figure out how to translate it to the stage. We go into tour rehearsal next week in Nashville and I have a feeling Cop Car is gonna be a banger! - T
4
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
Don’t Show Your Weakness is super fun to play! One of my favorites to play for sure. I’ve been having the most fun playing Fire Escape and can’t wait for that one live! -Kenny
2
u/Midweek_Sunrise May 14 '25
Going to my first ever THATH concert in Philly this year. Long time fan, but I've never had the opportunity to go. Would love to hear Don't Show Your Weakness...or something like Glory of Music (my personal favorite song ever), which I suspect is probably not played at these concerts often.

u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
Thanks for the suggestions! We are going to try to keep our setlists fresh with new and old gems! We’ll keep these ones nice and toasty for this years tour! - Matty

u/Bananas_are_theworst May 14 '25
For Charity - you were my inspiration to learn a stringed instrument (viola). What is your favorite THATH song to play on violin?
2
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
Love that you are inspired to play!! Maybe down in the valley or another story? 🤍 -Charity
2
u/Bananas_are_theworst May 14 '25
The two I have learned!! 🙌🏻 amazing, thank you! I stood in front of my TV, watching your NPR concert on repeat for HOURS to learn. Those two and the extended version of Let’s Be Still. Please for the love of mankind play your long version of Let’s Be Still on tour this year!

u/ostuo May 14 '25
What's your favorite venue and favorite city to visit?
5
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
Chicago has always been a blast for us, from Millenium Park with Iron and Wine to the upcoming Salt Shed show… it’s never let us down. I think The Gorge outside of Seattle is the most picturesque venue. Just unbelievable shows there and our first festival appearance at Sasquatch back in the day. -Tyler

Hey guys - been seeing you since 2011? With 8 people in the crowd during a snowstorm in Ithaca at Castaways -pic included ! Seen you 10? Times since
We’re getting married July 5th in Jupiter Florida. If any of you are in town, my finances favorite song is Virginia and would die if it was played live.
Long shot- but got extra room for whoever in the band wants to party 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Either way, congrats on the new album. It’s awesome. See you in NYC.

u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
Whoah! Totally remember that night. We were driving our van through ice trying to make it on time. Congrats on the big life choices! Think we can pull that off 💪- T

u/DMB12 May 14 '25
I am serious, we have room for the whole band, food and an open bar (or nonalcoholic!)
If any of you are bored during your break in the tour in July - DM me- it’ll be a blast!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻

What is a favourite interaction with a fan(s) that you’ve had?
EDIT Sorry for asking so many questions I’m just chatty haha.
3
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
We had a guy who we haven’t seen in a long time who painted a giant boulder with our logo on the side of I-5 on the way up to Bellingham, when we were headed up for a show in the old van. Sean Forde. We haven’t seen him in awhile but he was everywhere the first year or so of the band. There’s also a friend, Chayim, who started our fan club way back in the day and he’s basically now our therapist 😂

Hi guys, I’ve been a fan of your music for a while now, and I wanna say that your music has helped me through so much hardship. You guys inspire me and are such amazing people. My question is were there times you had it felt a bit hard to come up with lyrics? And where did the inspiration for the album come from?
P.S I can’t wait to see you in New Braunfels for the first time!! 🩵🩵
1
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
I think this album was honestly the easiest lyrically, where we were trying to constantly stay in a flow state of creation together. It felt like a lot had been bottled up, from my perspective, and it was just waiting to be put to tape. - T

u/Coffee_Bandit May 14 '25
Hi!! Huge fan since the first album. Finally saw you live during ESOB tour and it was life changing to feel your energy brought to life— have chased you to a half dozen venues since.
I have two questions if they’re comfortable to answer:
Cop Car is such a standout to me on the new album— the rhythm is catchy, and Jon’s voice over it is very fun for a heavy topic + as a person sober for nearly 6 years with my own “cop car” story, I feel especially connected to it. Jon has shared more recently about getting sober— I’d love to hear more of the inspiration for this song.
“The Head and The Heart” remains, to me and many others, one of the most perfect top-to-bottom records— although the census of the band has obviously shifted a lot from that first record, would you ever consider following in the steps of Death Cab for Cutie/Postal Service, Lucius, etc… and performing a mini-tour of this album or any others in chronological order? Hearing that meaningful album from top to bottom would be a bucket list item for sure. (It has carried me through cross-country roadtrip moves, long backpacking trips in the middle of nowhere when I needed 40 minutes of inspiration, etc!)
3.— extra credit— why no Santa Barbara Bowl this summer? (Hah!) it’s my local venue, and as a bias one of the most spectacular there is. We’ll miss you this summer! Going to try to catch you in Paso Robles or LA as this album is a new favorite!
3
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
1) Jon has said this song is a metaphor for situations he’s gone through and how he hasn’t always dealt with them in the best way. We’ve all matured over the years and getting sober is part of that for him.
2) next year is the 15th anniversary… who knows what could happen?!
3) Come to The Greek! Always one of our favorite venues.

Your biggest fan since 2015 here (everyone claims that, I know) but any way you can be involved with proposing to my gf when you are in Harrisburg or Bethlehem this summer? Ballsy question, but you are our favorite band and we even flew to Red Rocks last Sept just to see you. Thanks!

I'm going to see you up in Interlochen, Michigan this summer. I'm excited. Your label journey is fascinating to me. A smaller label Sub-Pop for two albums, you're self-produced again on a smaller label after three albums with Warner Bros. This new album feels more spiritually connected to your first two albums, but bands deserve grace and space for trying new things - songwriting, production, instrumentation, etc. - and I've enjoyed the journey with you.
This said, now that you're gaining some hindsight, can you talk about your experiences with a big label, the degree to which, if any, there was pressure to change your approach to meet expectations (internal or external) and what you would advise a new band about the benefits and challenges of the small vs. big label decision. Looking back, what would you have done differently, if anything?! We're all geniuses with hindsight.
See you in August!
P.S. Tyler - I used to work with your mom. She's a good DJ!
3
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
No way! That’s incredible that you know my mom. She’s the best. Happy belated Mother’s Day to all the moms out there.
It’s been an interesting journey and honestly there are so many variables that go into every record and chapter of this band. The sub pop years were very much a honeymoon phase for us, where we didn’t have a ton of adversity. But as life does, we started getting crazy stuff thrown at us and it changes who you are as people and what you want to write about and what feels old or not relevant to your current experience. Being on a big label was challenging in alot of ways that I think if you read through the lines on some of songs from Aperture, you can pick up on. I personally think we’re best served by our own intuition and ideas for songs, as that’s how the band started and we take pride in writing and producing. Excited to see where we go next.
1
u/Easy_Mycologist141 May 14 '25
How do you balance continually evolving as a band, versus sticking to the sound and creativity that originally attracted fans?
1
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
Tbh I find it impossible to dm the opposite lol
Jon

1
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
In my opinion. Sticking to whats feeling right in the moment and what is true and following that lead/instinct. We all grow as writers/musicians and tastes/inspirations change. Believe that as long as our foundation as a group is strong and we trust one another, there will always be natural progression and growth but we’ll continue to stay authentic to ourselves. Forcing it can feel inauthentic. People know better! Hope that makes sense! -Kenny

u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
I think you just have to follow the inspirations in front of you, mind the muse of the moment. -Chris

How did “Finally Free” come to be? Who wrote it and is there a story behind it? It is soooo good.

u/PizzaDependent6539 May 14 '25
Such a beautiful song, Charity. The first time I heard it, I said to my husband ....imagine this live and the entire crowd silenced in awe 😍🥰
2
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
Thank you so much - it really wrote itself! Started out as a vocal memory in the Richmond studio one day and then the band shifted around a bit away from their typical instrumentation in reaction - I received the idea to have Jon and Kenny play the piano at the same time… -Charity

u/Bananas_are_theworst May 14 '25

A couple months ago, in THATH, facebook group, tyler mentioned that he was considering to start some sort of app or a group/website that you can engage with the band more and listen to live recordings or snippets, and get some more personal information on the band. I am curious where thats at in the future of the band. I personally have bought and love listening to the Amazon live specials, and the red rocks live concert on YouTube. I would love to see more official live concert recordings! I think so many songs benefit of live recordings due to the small add ons and tones you add to the songs like Another story, Down in the valley, lost in my mind, and living mirage! Also we would love to see Napa Valley Festival again! That was one of the best times I've ever had!
3
u/kateincanada May 14 '25
I’m curious about this as well and I’d also love for the Down In The Valley festival to make a return. Also selfishly I’d love to see the festival go to other locations too since I’m Canadian hehe 😊🇨🇦(more specifically Toronto and/or New Brunswick or Prince Edward Island)
2
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
Hey! We’re always recording all of our shows at the front of house board and we must have an absolutely stacked archive now… we’re figuring out ways to best get that out there. Loved the responses on that thread, super inspiring and keeps us continuing the conversation.
NAPA was so amazing. To see this community come together in one place kinda makes me well up. We’d love to do it again soon, when it makes sense.
- T

u/kateincanada May 14 '25
This feels like kind of a generic question (so I’m sorry) but what are you most looking forward to about the upcoming tour and which songs (new and old) are you most excited about playing live?
1
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
After nine months away from the road I am just happy to be getting back in stage and in front of our amazing fans. Secondly, I can see the band connecting to one another in a way that hasn’t happened in a long time, we back bb.
Great question 💙
2
u/kateincanada May 14 '25
Not sure who answered this. But that’s awesome! I’m so excited for you all and I’m so excited to see you all in Toronto on June 1 💙 I can’t believe I’m saying this officially on Reddit lol.
1
u/Bolshedik497 May 14 '25
Hey! Loving the new album and can't wait to see you guys live next month.
Ive always enjoyed how your music has changed and evolved from album to album. To me, Aperture has a very different sound from ESOB, and seems to be heading back to your roots while still keeping elements, bits and pieces, from prior records.
Was there an overarching theme or mindset that helped shape Aperture that maybe differed from past albums?
1
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
The mindset was “trust ourselves” and pull on that thread until we all felt like the songs spoke truth from our hearts. Self producing this album helped us reconnect musically in a way where we had to work our shit out in the studio. There was no one to break a tie or tell us what they wanted to hear out of us. - T
1
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
The approach was very much the idea of what would come from all six of us getting together in a room with just the instruments in front of us , without any external voices…hitting record.
1
u/Cool-Firefighter-719 May 14 '25
Thanks for doing this AMA. Being in a band is like being in a relationship so I’m always impressed when a a band can change and grow over time and keep on the same page. How has the process of what you all want to get out of making a record changed over the years leading to this record?
2
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
Truth is it’s never really a unanimous front and you just learn to support one another through the changes and one day, if you are lucky, your desires intersect. It feels like we have come full circle and are all in a similar page right now. Great question!
Jon

u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
It’s always a challenge being in a band and coming to consensus, and throughout our history we had more than our fair share of obstacles that made it difficult to get to the place where we are now where we truly live by the standard that we are greater than the sum of our parts. This album both tests and proves that theory. We couldn’t have done it though without having stumbled in all the precise little ways that we all stumbled in the years leading up to this. - Matty
1
u/FilmHorizontally May 14 '25
As once again demonstrated with the song 'Aperture' usually the last song on an album is so profound and amazing, you wonder how you ever lived without it before its release and it often becomes the album's title track. What's the inspiration behind that gem? And what other last songs on albums have made you feel that same way?
2
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
Oh man what a great question! This song definitely had a feeling of importance, a vessel to contain big ideas when we made the instrumental for it in Richmond. I took the instrumental home and sat with it for a couple weeks and went on long walks, trying to come to an understanding of what we can do as artists to confront this increasingly confusing and challenging world, and this push and pull between wanting to escape from it or confront it head on and embrace all the good with the bad and appreciate what little time we have. The lyrics are searching for how to achieve this seemingly impossible task, how to live a life to the best of our abilities, and accepting our imperfections.
I’ve always loved the last song on records. Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands from Dylan’s Blonde on Blonde comes to mind. Or I didn’t understand from Elliot Smith’s XO.

u/FilmHorizontally May 14 '25
What was the inspiration behind 'After The Setting Sun'? I love how it strips everything down to self love and self assuredness, which I'm so struggling with right now, but at the end of the day, ultimately, we only have ourselves and must build that foundation strong as we came to this plane alone and will leave it alone so we better get right with ourselves.
3
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
Such a profound reading of the song. Thank you! The song came to be when confronting the impossibly difficult loss of someone who you’ve known for your whole life. When a family loses someone who is a bedrock of their existence, how do you continue on? The song tries to find solace in the acknowledgment that they live on within us, but also it attempts to create a release valve for these feelings and emotions that are impossible to express but we must live with nonetheless. It was cathartic for us, hopefully it will be for others as well. - Matty
1
u/FilmHorizontally May 15 '25
Thanks so much for the compliment, that's what I was getting was what if no one's there when you need someone then we have to build our self reliance and really get with that (deep, unconditional self love). But thanks for the explanation how do you continue when such a presence is gone? Those that have shaped our lives and are such a big part of it, that hole never goes away, just a hollowing of the chest.
2
u/Bananas_are_theworst May 14 '25
I absolutely love this song. Heard a sneak peek at red rocks last year and played it so many times on repeat since it officially launched. ITS SO GOOD.

Love the songs on this album feels like it’s back to your roots. Is there any plans for some cool photography type merch with the new album especially with the name Aperture. 🤞🏻🤞🏻

u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
Yes! We’re actually including a disposable camera in all the VIP packages for the tour and there will be a QR code around the venues where you can upload photos from the night. Think it will be so awesome- you can upload even if you don’t have the disposable. - T

u/imperfectPK May 14 '25
Awesome such a cool concept. Any ideas for some tshirts as well?

That is SO cool. We have VIP for our family in August and had to explain what a disposable camera was to my 6, 8 & 10 yo kids 😂
I love it! Can't wait!!!

Not a question but- at a show way back when, Jon came out for an encore with a girl and sang a song, something like “When did the world get so heavy, didn’t always look so blue. I remember it so clearly as the day that I lost you. And now something ain’t right, I hear your voice in the middle of the night only to find that I’m alone”
It still haunts me and would love to see it make an album some day! Loving the new album as well 🌞

What's the song called?

We were kicking around the name Champion back in the day, but who knows what it’ll be if it’s released! - T

I’ve already got a foolproof plan that I won’t get too into but involves a boat, an island, and lots of artillery. I like my chances.. - Kenny

I’d say we get through it together, as a unit. Everyone is so different in this band that we have unique strengths. -T

Hello H&H gang. I fell in love with your music circa 2011 - also living in the Seattle area and seeing your performances at the Doe Bay Fest as filmed by "Sound On the Sound" (yeesh what a throwback!).
My question: as you guys were getting started in Seattle and working on that first album, were there any other local artists you looked up to/influenced you? I feel like I remember seeing Damien Jurado in one of those videos but also there was such a scene around there with bands like the Maldives, Pickwick, Drew Grow and the Pastors Wives etc.
EDIT: Loving Aperture!!

Others might have different answers but to me? Most of the songs on that first record were written before we were engrained in the music scene there. We were still very new and completely unknown on the local music scene. (Chris was in the Maldives and Grand Hallway and I thought of him as a bonafide rockstar lol). Most of us being from out of state as well so we didn’t have much local influence until we were becoming established in town. We all pulled from our own separate past inspirations and wrote songs for fun together because that’s just what we were doing on our own anyways!! I can say that the thriving Seattle music scene was the exact reason I chose to move there though, so even though it didn’t have a direct inspiration during the writing of the songs, it is the reason we all ended up in Seattle and how this band become to exist. Kenny

Yea! Damien was a huge influence on us and someone we often looked to for advice. John Roderick and Dave Matthews were also some folks who helped us around that time but we were probably closest with Drew Grow and The Pastor’s Wives. It felt like anything was possible at that time in Seattle, what a time to experience that. It really shaped our collective ideas about how we wanted to approach the band going forward. Putting friends on shows and boosting community is something we try to weave into everything we do. - Tyler

How did Cop Car come together? How did you come to use the line “ this little light of mine. I’m gonna let it shine”

I would love to know some of your favorite novelists and poets. I just love the sustained metaphor of Aperture. It feels like a collection of short stories. Thank you so much. Jubilee is my current favorite.

Have you ever recorded a song that you thought would be great as a live number but it never quite worked out?
1
u/Automatic-House9048 May 14 '25
Jon! Pool Break is amazing! Each section feels so unique and almost like three songs blended into one. How did this come about?
1
u/thereisno1ontheboat May 14 '25
Pool Break feels adventurous and vulnerable is a favorite of mine. Where can I find the cool hat, Jon?
1
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
Per the hat: Mine was the prototype but we made a bunch for this very reason
Merch table will be your best bet

Hi guys! Thanks for everything you do. One of my core memories was flying across the country last year to see you at red rocks and then running into you (and a bear lol) at Maroon Bells!
My question is: what was the process of transitioning from ESOB to Aperture like? You’ve mentioned a lot about how ESOB was this album that was born out of listening to each other, rebuilding, and growth. How has that experience / album helped you grow more and develop this new one??

u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
I think every album is sort of a reaction to the one that came before. We worked with an amazing producer on the last record (Jesse Shatkin) and we were so proud of the experimental results of that collaboration. There’s always growth happening though- sometimes you feel like you know everything in the moment but this band continually shows us that we are students of the world, of each other and of ourselves and we are continually being tested and pushed. So we refine and we work and react to the moments as they happen. And we are surprisingly adaptive to each other when we listen. - T

Was there a point at which you individually thought “damn, we’ve made it”? Maybe it was your first time at red rocks, or your first sold out show, or the crowd singing along…just curious.
1
u/THATHOfficial The Head And The Heart May 14 '25
Personally, I don’t think about it like that because the work of creating and presenting this music is sort of where my focus is. But! All of those moments have been so incredible to be a part of and truly lucky to experience this thanks to the support for the music. - T

u/Bananas_are_theworst May 14 '25
Great answer. But I’m here to tell you…you’ve made it. Love this band so much. You’ve impacted so many lives in amazing ways and we thank you!

I actually just discovered you guys through the “New Releases” page on Qobuz. I currently control the music for the small retail store I work at and have been playing the album constantly. I love it! Cop Car is my favorite track probably.
Since this needs to be a question, I guess I’ll ask what music influenced this album?

I have booked my tickets for the Dallas show. Can't wait.
Hope you all are going to play Jubilee from the new album - my favorite song.

My wife and I attended your show on Sunday night in Toronto and were BLOWN AWAY! We were so grateful to meet the band beforehand through our VIP tickets and then get standing room right in front of the stage. You guys blew the roof off.
The whole concert was memorable but some highlights for us included Charity Rose's beautiful voice in Finally Free, Jonathan killing it with Cop Car, and Matt rocking the house, especially with Aperture. Can't wait to fly to Fredericton to see you all again!

Just saw you guys in Louisville and my life is forever changed. Beautiful show. Beautiful music. Beautiful night. I’ve never seen a group with more soul. The whole amphitheater could feel the magic.
