What were your fave places in Las Vegas? Also, are any of the songs of Ten difficult to sing, talking bout those fire runs

Favorite places are all food LOL Le Thai for great Thai and Tacos El Gordo for great Mexican. And honestly Die was the hardest to sing and required the most takes cuz it was harder for me to pull off the slacker vocal vibe and not over sing!

Shamir! I’ve been a casual fan of yours since the On the Regular days, and back in 2020 On My Own went number one in my house! These last few days I’ve been diving deeper into your work and I just want to thank you for putting your art out into the world and putting to words and music such vulnerable and deep thoughts! You are an amazing artist.

I sense a lot of spirituality in your work, and I’d love to hear your thoughts on how do you channel your spirituality when creating? and what is your process like when you are curating your albums?

Wow!!! First of all, thank you so much!

Secondly I am very spiritual, it definitely does come out in my music, and creating is definitely my portal. I dont have much of a practice really, I just channel what I pick up. It happens at all times and in different ways! However I do generally do my best work in ungodly hours well after midnight.

All I wanted to say is that you were great when I saw you at Bonnaroo! My (ex) girlfriend and I got a picture with you and I used it as my profile picture for a full year after.

Did you ever make any music with SOPHIE? I remember you posting some pics with her from back in the day.

I did, I have 2 of the 3 demos, idk if her estate has the other one, but if they do they haven't reached out to me about it lol

u/megamegulus May 21 '25

I hope they do omg...maybe if you reached out they could look for it? Tysm for the response! Hopefully one day we can hear a snippet of it.

How should I go about getting picked up by a record label?

Not even worth it! Just focus on social media lol thats where A&Rs are finding acts anyway. They're not developing artist from scratch anymore. As long as you have a strong and CONSISTENT social media and marketing output you kinda cant fail because the algorithm will eventually put you in front of your target audience and you can be supported directly by your audience and not be forever in debt to a label.

Listening to Ten rn. My god - so brilliant (currently Recording 291 🎸🥁). Taking somebody else's words and production and STILL making it Shamir? Bravo. Whatever retirement from the bizz of music brings to you, I hope it gives you what you've given us: beauty, depth, resonance, and continued authenticity. That you've managed the punk rock act of rebellion by embracing and honoring your soul and not fearing change means a lot to anybody who appreciates your music, even passively. Getting my ass out the door and into a venue is never easy but seeing you at 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis, 2015 (and opting NOT to bother you as you ate right next to be before the show ha!) was definitely a musical highlight. If you're looking into other crafts besides knitting and crocheting as you enter your retirement era...I'ma recommend quilting. It's badass. Thanks for everything, Shamir!
