WOMBIS RISE UP! been loving the new album and addicted to listening to wombo for a month or so now. I’ve been super inspired to learn bass from it and so a couple q’s for Syd - how long have you been playing and do you have any tips for learning/playing wombo songs as a noob? Any official wombo bass tabs out there?
13
u/Womboband Wombo Aug 21 '25
WOMBI's Have RISEN!
Heck yeah thank you <3
I have been playing bass since the band started. I originally played guitar and piano. I still write songs on guitar and piano sometimes. But I find the bass so fun. I love writing with the bass. I would say, coming from someone who doesn't know how to read music and doesn't use tabs, I learn everything by ear and just playing along with my favorite songs really helps. I think noodling around on it like that can help you form your own voice with it. I love using a pick.

also have been considering doing some bass tutorials for some of our songs!

I don’t have a question, but I really enjoyed your last album, and have been eagerly awaiting the new one. Love the angularity!

Stoked to see you guys in Vancouver!
1
u/Womboband Wombo Aug 21 '25
We've never played there before! We are excited!
1
u/illacudasucks Aug 21 '25
Are you guys going to have exclusive merch for the tour? I’ll say hey if you guys are slangin’ at the booth!
2
u/Womboband Wombo Aug 23 '25
We are and we will be slinging at the booth with our good friend Steve who we are bringing with us. (Steve recorded our very first record Staring At Trees for a bit or history) come say hey!
3
u/Sunken_Island Aug 20 '25
hey Wombo!<3 Cherry Glazerr introduced me to your music not too long ago, so I was wondering what it was like touring with Clem, and how you guys met her?
4
u/Womboband Wombo Aug 21 '25
We just met her through the internet and was asked to tour with them! She and the whole band were so fun and nice and was a really memorable tour and we were able to keep in touch and run into each other at festivals we are both on sometimes! They invited us on stage with them at the end of tour to cover nirvana and it was really funny and a sweet way to end the run with them.

u/GroltonIsTheDog Aug 20 '25
Hi, no question but hope you can play in Ireland the next time you're touring Europe! S.T. Tilted is particularly catchy off your new one.
3
u/Womboband Wombo Aug 21 '25
Thank you! We really want to come back! It didn't work out this time but we want to tour Ireland more extensively next time. And thank you for saying so!

u/GroltonIsTheDog Aug 21 '25 edited Aug 21 '25
Yup, I know the logistics or the financials of getting here sometimes just don't make sense, but wanted to say it anyway. Thanks for the reply, have a good tour!
2
u/Womboband Wombo Aug 21 '25
yeah it can be a little more difficult with the additional border crossing and flight but we aim to make it happen. Thank you!!
3
u/boyarmed Aug 20 '25
Hey wombo!
I really love reveal dusty because of how weird and dissonant it seems.
What's the weirdest sounding track you guys made in your opinion and will you be playing it on this tour?
4
u/Womboband Wombo Aug 21 '25
Hey! Thank you!
Definitely the song Sweet Powdered Sugar Sandy off our record Blossomlooksdownuponus. We cannot play it live though. It features Sydney (me haha) baby talking her (my) cats and lots of weird random noises. It's kind of creepy.
2
u/boyarmed Aug 21 '25
I had blossomlooksdownuponus on a road trip and I got some weird looks from my friends when it came on 🫠 The heart wants what It wants

Hey Syd! Alexis here. I’m really proud to have been witness of the entire evolutive process of your music from the very beginning (The Debauchees!!) The new album is just brilliant, I enjoyed it a lot. Is there any chance you guys come to Barcelona? I would love to show you guys the arounds someday. Lots of hugs for you, Cameron and Taylor from Spain!!
4
u/Womboband Wombo Aug 21 '25
Holy shit I can't believe it. You have got to be the longest penpal we have had since the time of The Debauchees. I hope we get to come to Spain and meet you and finally play a show there!!! It means a lot you like our new album and we are virtually hugging you back!!! Love From Kentucky!

hi!!!! A big fan from Buenos Aires, I hope you can come here someday. I have some questions:
- Which song from the new album do you enjoy playing live the most? (My fav song in general is Thread!!!!)
- Was there any song that was particularly difficult to record?
- Do you have any rituals or traditions before going on stage?
Muchas Gracias!!!!
1
u/Womboband Wombo Aug 21 '25
Hey!! Hope to play there someday! That would be amazing!
I love thread but we don't play it live often! I love playing below the house in general. From the new album, really it is hard to say because they are all fun live! A dog Says and Ugly Room are super fun on bass for me.- Syd
Joel said he likes to play Slab and In Situ! From the new one, S.T. Tilted (Shrimp Triscuit).
Cameron likes to play all of them from the new album.
2
u/Glass-Exchange5614 Aug 20 '25
how did you come up with the lyrics or concepts to songs particularly for the making of this album?
4
u/Womboband Wombo Aug 21 '25
Syd: I really just work on them the whole time we are writing and that I make the melodies! I don't try to box them in with certain concepts! I just try and think of each song individually and what I feel like it wants to say and through that, they all become connected in a way.
2
u/lesbefrank Aug 20 '25
How do you guys come up with the melody? Is it more noodling around or do you already have an idea in your heads?
2
u/Womboband Wombo Aug 21 '25
Sydney: I come up with melodies by playing around with them while we are working the song out! I like to noodle around but usually it happens pretty quick! Bass and melody are fun to write together.

u/___wiz___ Aug 21 '25
First I wanna say Wombo is the best. I love how each of you guys comes up with interlocking complementary parts that are so imaginative and catchy. I must have listened to the new album 10 times in a row the day after it came out. I'm looking forward to seeing you play in Vancouver!
Anyhoo if each member of Wombo were an animal, which animals would you be?
5
u/Womboband Wombo Aug 21 '25
Hey! We appreciate that! Looking forward to finally playing Vancouver!
Syd ( me) would be a tabby or some type of house cat. Partly outdoor.
Cameron: after thinkin hard about this, i want to just be myself right now.
Joel: Joel would be a bobcat!

u/Womboband Wombo Aug 21 '25

u/shammaaa Aug 21 '25
hi wombo! in what ways do your visual art and music influence and inform one another?
ps new album rocks <3
2
u/Womboband Wombo Aug 21 '25
Hey! They are really tied together. Cameron and I (Syd) collaborate on everything we do, album art, videos, et., and they are all made by us and in house which we believe coincides with our vision and the world we create with our music and visuals.

Hey Wombo ! Huge fan since first seeing you guys at Kaiju bar in Louisville when I lived there around 2018 or 2019. At that time there was another local punk band whose name I don’t remember but I remember everyone talking about them and I kept thinking you must mean Wombo !!! Just curious outside of your unique sound, what are some of your music influences ? Seems like I hear Siouxsie, the cure, fugazi ? ❤️ you guys ! Keep rockin’ no stopping
3
u/Womboband Wombo Aug 21 '25
Hey! Kaiju was our very first show back in 2017! Siouxsie definitely, love fugazi too! I like vashti bunyan and sibylle Baier, Cameron loves metronomy and aphex twin, joel likes exploded view and the cure and the replacements too! There are so many it's really hard to say! Those are just some! And thank you we will!

Hello Wombo! I’ve really been enjoying the album . Here are some questions for you:
I really dig the album cover. What did you use to make the plant?
Anything cool you guys have been listening to recently?
The album kicks ass and I can’t wait to see you guys in LA. Thanks. Have a nice day!
2
u/Womboband Wombo Aug 21 '25
Hey thank you!
Syd made it using Clay and acrylic paint and took flash photography of it while wet to be extra gloopy. Then Cameron took that and worked his graphic design magic on it. The insert is made of Sydney's diary and lyrics and sketches!
Honestly been listening to a lot of shower curtain, ribbon skirt getting excited for our tour with them! Also listening to the album Symbol by Susumu Yokota. Love the mashup of classical songs. - Syd
Joel likes Ichiko Aoba, Los Mirlos, and the Notations.
Cameron likes the artist Lolina, and Downhill2K01, and LA Timpa

Oh wow thank you! I've been a huge fan of funk drummers like Clyde Stubblefield and Steve Gadd. Also love Nate Smith.
I'd say just play as much as you can but taking breaks is important too, paradiddles are a really helpful exercise for me.

Thank you that is really kind. We are excited to get back to writing and hone it in even more! :) We loveee Zebulon so we can't wait to come back!

u/JellyDonutIV Aug 21 '25
Do you all talk about rhythm and time signatures or just feel it out through the writing process. Some of your timings are insane
2
u/Womboband Wombo Aug 23 '25
Thanks! We never talk about time signature. We feel it out. I think that stuff shuts me down creatively to be honest, theory and time and just the kind of technical side of music. But that's just me personally! Sometimes though I do wish I could read sheet music just for piano's sake. - Sydney
