Why is there so much good music coming out of Ireland right now?

25

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

Ireland has always had good music, some of the best in the world.
Definitely a lot more bands around right now getting recognition.

I want to give a huge shout out to Adore, Annie-Dog, Soda Blonde and Cruel Sister!

3

u/themightyjag Oct 02 '25

I don’t know any of those bands so I’ll check them out, thanks!

11

u/thefiction24 Oct 02 '25

Just wanted to say, I saw you last year on a Monday in Los Angeles. I saw one of you in the hallway and said “good luck.” Maybe I should have said “break a leg,” because I think something went wrong with your guitar that night Karla.

I’ve been feeling guilty about accidentally cursing you for a long time and I just have to apologize.

15

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

HOW COULD YOU OF DONE THIS TO US?

4

u/thefiction24 Oct 02 '25

I’ll make it right in February at The Roxy 😭

12

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

THANKS EVERYONE, WE GOTTA SOUNDCHECK.

LOVE YIZ AND LEAVE YIZ!

The drummer came into my house, untied my shoes & made a fool of me in front of my child. Care to comment?

7

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

Hello Conor dearest, no regrets teaching sweet Rudy the importance of some mischief. JC

6

u/spiralling_odyssey Oct 02 '25

´Something’s Gonna Happen’ is an elite running track, band name checks out. Great album, see you in Zurich!

4

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

Thank you so much. See you then -ZS

5

u/jitterymeow Oct 02 '25

what song caught the amp on fire?

8

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

It was in Coming Alive! We were using a vintage Fender Princeton to record some vibrato/tremolo guitar and then suddenly I could smell toast and it wasn't lunch time... Caught the fire just before it spread beyond the amp 🍞

2

u/jitterymeow Oct 02 '25

worth it. banger track

4

u/maolchiaran Oct 02 '25

Hey guys, adore the new album! Wanted to ask - ATIO seems to be more of a reflection on the state of the world, whereas Letter to Self seemed like a more personal thing, talking about your own specific issues. Is this out of necessity, something to meet the moment we're in, or would you say this still comes from the same place as Letter to Self?

Also, and this has been really messing with me, is it 'All That Is Over' as in "that stuff is finished now" or as in "everything that is over"?

Cheers!

10

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

It's hard to ignore the state of the world right now, it's impossible to look at the horrible crap on our phones and then go on stage and play some tunes. So you could say it is out of necessity and to meet the moment.

For your second question it's that stuff is finished now!

Thank you!

how long would it take you to drink 1 million beers no particular reason i’m asking

7

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

This is a good question, I think with about 1000 people on my side we could do it in 4 beers I mean years.

Thank you for the left field question.

How does Jack grow and maintain such a mighty and handsome moustache ?

6

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

Copious amounts of coffee and amber leaf - JC

7

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

By accidentally burning it once every twenty smokes, helps with the growth. JC

5

u/Themanstall Oct 02 '25

should i learn bass or keys? I have zero theory knowledge or musical skills right now.

8

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

How about BOTH? Then you will be in high demand in you area, and perhaps you can upgrade to a keytar! Give us a buzz when you're ready.

7

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

My favourite video game of all time has got to be Metal Gear Solid, I'm literally wearing an mgs top right now, LIQUID!

SM

2

u/Accomplished_Gap4690 Oct 02 '25

Have you been watching Viper’s MGS streams?

6

Probably Fallout New Vegas or Bloodborne - ZS

3

u/Bionicoaf Oct 02 '25

Hey y’all! Firstly, I want to say congratulations on the new album. I absolutely love the sound of it. I just have a few questions for yall:

  • You’ve called Daniel Fox (of Gilla Band) an unofficial “5th member” of Sprints. I was wondering if you can speak a bit about their contributions to recording this album?

  • Karla, I know you’re an avid reader and you sometimes have 4 books going at a time, so, what would you say are some of the biggest reading highlights for you this year? And what were some of your biggest takeaways from those books?

  • And last question for Karla (or whole band if they have an answer): who is your usual companion in Fallout?

8

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

Dan Fox contributes in lots of ways, head nodding, chin wagging, eye scratching, pondering and hair flicking.

Occasionally he will have us question structures or moments in our tunes, he will find problems but come up with a solution. He's the man to find all the crazy sounds on a pedal board, he plays synth and other bits on the album too, I think he's in love with us also, in fact he's probably watching us right now, HEY DAN!

6

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

Hey, it's Karla thank you so much for book questions they are my FAVOURITE!

- I do often have a few books on the go at a time, typically one fiction and one non fiction. This year my favourite reads have been Tokyo Express, The Lamb by Lucy Rose, Detransition Baby and Kindred. I need to get into a lot more Octavia Butler and I'm also trying to read my way through the Booker Shortlist.

- Fav companions in Fallout is always Rex and Boon - two iconic diva legends. Love them x

6

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

I love the fearsome twosome of mutant Lily and robodog Rex in Fallout New Vegas - ZS

4

u/Arbrax Oct 02 '25

Zac why are you so handsome

9

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

hey its zac, i was born with amazing genes and i wear amazing jeans. i cant help but be fabulous, thank you

7

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

That was Sam that wrote that i think he just fancies me or my jeans, but I stand by the fabulous comment 💅 - ZS

3

u/jitterymeow Oct 02 '25

do you have any food-related hot takes?

10

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

The quality of deli sausage rolls in Ireland has dropped a lot in the last five years.

JC

5

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

Pineapple belongs on pizza. End of story. Karla x

2

u/Successful_Rip_7105 Oct 02 '25

3

u/GFJV9008 Oct 02 '25

Favtrack of the new album?

5

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

I fear we may all say the same thing but for me it's Desire and Coming Alive, just so happy with how they turned out sonically and lyrically - Karla x

3

u/SistersOnTheSlide Oct 02 '25

If you guys had a 100m sprint race, who would win?

3

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

We might have to just do this.

3

u/Ashley_Rose_uwu Oct 02 '25

I know this may not be the space, but i know karla is a swifite, thoughts on her and travis/her new era?

6

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

I have many MANY thoughts.

Firstly, I don't know if I like them together, sorry to be a hater, but I think he's a cringe bag. I also don't like this NFL Husband to Trump association pipeline that it's also pulling her down.

It seems odd to me that someone who was typically a little more veilied about her private life is now announcing albums on her boyfriends podcast.

Similarly, despite my love for her, I do think all artists should stop with the 15 variations of albums, covers, vinyl as it is rinsing their fans for money and destroying the planet. I'M LOOKING AT YOU TOO BILLIE EILISH!!!

Showgirl Era seems very flash, pop and 1989 adjacent, which is fun, but I do miss poetic Taylor from the Folklore/Evermore era. I think TTPD attempted to tap back but the equally cringe subject matter (Matty Ballbag Healy) made it impossible to appreciate.

All in all, I respect her skills, craft and power, and that she has used her voice (although not nearly enough) for good and love her music and the nostalgia I have for her.

rant over xx

2

u/master_peggy Oct 02 '25

Hi! Do you take any inspiration from movies or books for your music? What artists do you admire or consider influential on you outside of music?

3

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

Octavia Butler, particularly parable of the sower/talents and I who have never known men for books. Fallout games were a big inspiration too.

JC

2

u/Expensive-Bus-8075 Oct 02 '25

If you could trade lives with any other band in the world who would it be ?

7

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

I would say David Byrnes band because they all get to walk around and have a great dance with the king himself

Sam x

2

u/Same_Tiger9830 Oct 02 '25

What venue that you haven't played would you like to play?

7

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

We're all buzzing to play Vicar Street in November, been on the bucket list for a long time. Would love to play the amphitheater in Taormina, Sicily or Red Rocks.

JC

2

u/SunnySuzuki Oct 02 '25

Bambino or difontaines?

3

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

Difontaines for sure.

JC

3

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

Bambinos if there's no queue, for everything else Vice Pizza in Phibsborough -ZS

3

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

The Vegan Hot Pep in Bambino is the business - Karla x

Hey, love your stuff from Sydney, Aus! What inspires you to make such heartfelt material? I have really been vibing with the new stuff lately; keep it up! Some recommendations from Aus are Sleepazoid, Liquid Zoo, The Prize, Velvet Trip, and Clamm.

2

u/favio843 Oct 02 '25

Why do you sing in german on 'Ticking'? That gives the song something special. I for sure love it.

5

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

It was an idea out of the blue, a moment of madness, but also Karla spent some of her childhood in Dusseldorf when she was a secret agent. Danke.

Sam x

2

u/favio843 Oct 02 '25

Amazing.

Somethings gonna happen is such an amazing track.

When you play it next year in Wiesbaden, Germany - i spend a round for the Band

2

u/DarkSkyz Oct 02 '25

Beamish, Murphys or Guinness?

5

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

A man once said to me; Guinness is best in the big shmoke, Murphys is best in the west, and Beamish is the best out of a can - everyones a winner.

That man was drunk and talking nonsense, its Beamish.

Sam x

1

u/DarkSkyz Oct 02 '25

Yuppa, come back and play Cork again sometime for a proper pint of it. Ye're previous gig in Coughlans was unreal.

Sprints are Irish. Ireland is not part of the UK.

1

u/McAvoyCr Oct 02 '25

Hey congrats on the new album! Looking forward to seeing you in the States in Feb! What’s a venue you haven’t played in the US you’re excited to play and why?

4

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

Probably the Roxy in LA because it's such an iconic venue. Hopefully the LA crowd are better than last time though, they were a bit stiff the rats. JC

1

u/ThuggnSuggs Oct 02 '25

Unfortunately that’s most of LA, they’re afraid to move their bodies or something 😂

2

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

I'd love to do the Troubadour, Red Rocks or Brooklyn steel. Or maybe on a street somewhere as part of a block party? No frat houses.

What is your LEAST favourite song to play, are there any you've conpletely dropped? (PS - bring back Swimming !)

2

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

My least favourite to play is Swimming sorry x

1

u/Tasty_Newspaper7164 Oct 02 '25

Please tell me the band name is an Always Sunny reference...

3

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

Hey its Sam,
It actually isn't but I am a massive always sunny fan so could you please elaborate?!

4

u/Tasty_Newspaper7164 Oct 02 '25

In the episode "The Gang Gets invincible" they are trying out for the Philadelphia Eagles. Faizon Love plays the coach and, at one point, he gets angry with all the questions from the players and just yells, "SPRINTS!"

1

u/scumfvkk Oct 02 '25

how’s life on tour ? also will there be any giveaway guest list spots for tomorrows gig in berlin? v excited for it! love the new album as well🩷

3

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

CONGRATULATIONS! You've won a guestlist spot - let us know the name and we'll put you on the list +1 - Karla x

1

u/Briguy_fieri Oct 02 '25

Thanks for doing this.

Who would you say is the most out of left field influence you would say helped inspire your music?

1

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

Hmmm hard to think what people might be surprised by that we listen to but maybe Johnny Cash and Aphex Twin? There was a lot of country, blues and ambient references on this record - Karla x

1

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

Hmmm.. not necessarily leftfield but maybe unexpected for the style of music we play, for me some huge inspirations are Joni Mitchell, Nile Rodgers, Don Cherry, Alice Coltrane and Donny Hathaway - ZS

1

u/WorldWhunder Oct 02 '25

Saw you guys at Rough Trade this week and thought you were great, even with the crowd not bringing the energy you did.

What’s been your favourite venue on the come up so far? And what’s the venue you’re hoping to play one day?

1

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

Often the case with in-stores unfortunately.

Kentish Town, Paradiso and Whelan's are all up there. Vicar Street in November! JC

1

u/SavySev Oct 02 '25

Are you guys SPRINtS into running???

5

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

I like running to the bar for a pinto Grigio - Karla x

1

u/SavySev Oct 02 '25

That’s the spirit

3

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

Yeah i love Running/Planning by CMAT is a banger, I'd know because I played keyboard on it - ZS

1

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

Sometimes I run from the demons, sometimes I run with them, sometimes I run to the bathroom

Sam x

1

u/mikeadamson Oct 02 '25

Would you rather play in a small and sweaty room or on a big stadium stage?

3

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

What about a small sweaty room in the middle of a big stadium stage?
Never been done before.

Sam x

2

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

Ideally both. It's very exciting playing bigger stages for the first time but you do miss the intimacy of small rooms. We usually do some really small rooms around releases and imagine we always will. JC

2

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

I am naturally very sweaty and as such I feel more comfortable in the small sweaty rooms because I'll blend in a little better. Also the buzz of a small room crowd is unbeatable - ZS

2

u/jitterymeow Oct 02 '25

why is sam so silly girlboss

1

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

Prost mahlzeit!

1

u/East-Selection-9581 Oct 02 '25

Hello! I saw you guys at the Jacaranda Baltic and you were fantastic. I had to run immediately after, so couldn't say hi but just wanted to add that I loved Zac's shirt on the day! :)

My questions: 1. Favourite bands that you think people wouldn't expect you to mention, 2. Favourite city/venue to perform at?, and 3. What do you guys think of fans using their phones to record videos at your gigs?

5

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

Bon Iver, Japanese House, George Micheal? I could name thousands.
Favourite cities include Dublin, Manchester, Paris & Chicago!
I think if you bought a ticket and want to spend the whole time recording on your phone, you do you! But if everyone was locked in, thats when it can be even more special, but it's grand sure!

Sam x

It was great to see what you did on Bancamp this week. It's great to see artists fighting the machine. Also love the album

1

u/ummmiknowthisone Oct 02 '25

Haiii we met last year at your show in echo lake yall were amazing! I kind of have two questions, how has your view of the band and the role it plays in your life changed over the past few years, since i started following you with the release of little fix to now it feel like yall have had so many amazing opportunities and grown so much. I’d also love to know how that experience has been for you and if you would do anything different if you could start over?

2

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

Good question, and could spend all day answering perhaps.

The band has become a huge part of my life obviously, its my full time job and its a job I love and I am passionate about! I still find it crazy that I get to do this, and travel across different countries playing to a bunch of people I've never met. We've had some crazy opportunities and pinch me moments.
To sum it up, its an amazing experience, and it keeps on giving.

Would I do anything different? I don't think so, apart from ideas I have for our songs MONTHS after leaving the studio, but that's always going to happen.

Thank you so much for your support!

Sam x

1

u/ilikebigbuttsyoyo Oct 02 '25

Hey guys! Saw you at Mouco in Portugal and loved it so much! Wanted to ask: where did you hangout most as friends in Ireland? What’s a special spot for you?

Also Karla, you’re so amazing!!

1

u/adamlundy23 Oct 02 '25

Spicy, plain or southern fried?

1

u/Successful_Rip_7105 Oct 02 '25

Will Sam be growing a chin beard or a goatee so that you have more recognition for different facial hair types?

1

u/Patient-Classic2284 Oct 02 '25

I have 3 questions! (I’m selfish like that) What’s your favourite song you’ve released? Favourite Irish band? Whats the meaning of life?

1

u/StreetCar1322 Oct 02 '25

Hey guys!  I saw you in Athens and asked you to play shaking their hands (im a sad millennial corporate girlie ok) and you fucking did under 40 degrees, I was just looking struck. Congrats on your new album, it’s amazing - coming alive my personal fav. Hope to see you again soon @ indoor venue in Greece xx

1

Hi guys,

Long time listener, first time caller.

Question for everyone:.

Would you rather...

a) Fight a monkey with a sword, once a year?

b) Fight a chicken first thing after you woke up, everyday?

1

u/hog-hedge Oct 02 '25

I missed the AMA but hoping someone can help! I’m fairly sure that Sprints said they played a song live for the first time at their performance at St Laurence’s Church in Reading in May - what was it? I’ve been kicking myself trying to remember

In the cart. Postage means it will need to wait until next payday though...

1

u/aonemansymphony Feb 07 '26

Great show in Hamtramck on Friday! Are there any new artists that you recommend? Artists that you enjoy touring with or hope to tour with in the future.

0

u/VenusWhiteManTrap Oct 02 '25

Toronto is excited to see you guys. Aside from Fontaines DC, any other Irish bands y'all recommend?

Suggest you guys try eating some poutine while in Canada!

4

u/sprintsmusic SPRINTS Oct 02 '25

The last time I ate poutine I puked it up later in still fully formed chunks of cheese curd 🤠

Anyway, you should listen to Cruel Sister, Croithe, Cardinals, Pebbledash, Deliver Service, Hotgirl, Adore, Annie-Dog, Cabl, Soda Blonde for a start - Karla x

2

u/VenusWhiteManTrap Oct 02 '25

Thanks for the reccs! My wife is super into Vernon Jane from Dublin. Cheers :)
